The only way they can garnishee your wages - is to take you to court.

When they take you to court the judge will issue a judgment against you if the credit-card company (or whomever) can prove the debt is valid. Also, in Washington, at least, there is something else they have to do after they get the judgment before they can actually cause the judgment amount to be put on your credit report. Whatever this second thing is, it opens the way for them to then garnishee your wages. However, before they can garnishee your wages, they have to find out where you work! I'd start with getting your three credit reports (of which you can get one free every year from each of the three agencies) to see whether any of them have your current place of employment listed (they may not). It's not going to do them much good to get a judgment and then not be able to find out where you work. If they don't know where you work, how are they going to get their hands on your wages? Just saying.
