In many ways, it is a different skill set. I prefer straight typing because I need to have more of my senses engaged at once so I have a harder time focusing on the editing but there are many people who love it. As far as the platform, all platforms have their good and bad things. There are only a few things on escription that I would improve but for the most part, the platform is pretty decent.
