My thoughts on that - Coder Posted: Jan 23rd, 2016 - 6:31 pm In Reply to: Has anyone considered scoping/court reporting? - sm
Court reporting takes forever to learn, it's incredibly expensive, equipment is incredibly expensive, and I know want to be reporters and scopists who have been attending classes for years and still can't get a job. Yes, court reporters do want experienced scopists, so it isn't like you are going to walk out and just get hired. And, yes, digital recording technology is being used increasingly instead of court reporters.
It amazes me that so many MTs will consider something like court reporting, when it is far less expensive and easier to learn medical coding, when jobs in medical coding pay exceptionally well and are comparatively easier to get. There are even a number of remote companies now which eliminates the need to wait for openings in your local area.
Let the negativity fly, but I think that medical coding is something more of you should consider as a viable option. It really makes no sense to me to continue looking for typing jobs.
