Magic Jack questions?? Experience ? - old tired MT

anyone tried Magic Jack with a Lanier Voice Writer? I was successful with it on a little dial-in dictation system I had for a long time with a doc dialing into it, but I think this digital signal thing in the Lanier going over the Voip connection is just too much for it. But, I though I would ask. Really tired of paying for an unlimited landline when this is so cheap. There is a newer one out, can't recall the name right now but its supposed to be much better, but it also costs 69.95?? I'm looking for a reliable land-line alternative so I can continue my position with this company that requires unlimited LD with a 100 a month landline, inclusive of DSL.

Just hoping someone has used SOMETHING that will work with this Lanier Voicewrite and connect up correctly and function.

I was never able to make MagicJack work with my Lanier - the pedal functions did not work...No stopping, just kept running. Vonage did work, and now I use my RoadRunner digital phone with no problems. However, they do not provide tech support for any Lanier problems or for any faxing problems. Hope that helps.

Greenie, Vonage is VOIP isn't it? as well as Roadrunner? I am hoping to get something that is "mobile" that I can take with me, i.e. vacations in hotels, etc. I had the same issue with the Lanier and the Magic Jack, the voice was coming through but the footpedal just played.

I am hoping to find something like Magic Jack that will work. Thanks for the help.

The only thing I know of that you can take with you is an aircard - AT&T and Verizon have them, as well as others. If you Google aircards, maybe get more info that way. Last I checked on my AT&T plan, they were like $60/month, but it isn't unlimited. Just something to check out. I never used it, but have seen reference to them on this site...Maybe check the archives? Sorry can't be of more help.

There is a company called NetTalk that has "unlimited" calling, but the only thing with that is there are restrictions. You are really only allowed to 5,000 minutes on NetTalk a month. This is kind of like MagicJack, but you don't have to leave your computer on to use it.

While it may not work for actual long-distance phone calls, especially for use with C-phones, Go-to-meeting, and such as that, I found a nice benefit today to having the Magic Jack. There is a hospital in my area that has 2 jobs I am interested in, one is a records analyst and the other is a records clerk. I have been noticing that the experience level required to even get looked at for an MT job has went up. The 2 year experience mark has now went to 3 in most postings, and alot more postings are stating they want a minimum of 5 years. I am trying to figure why I never get a call-back on job applications anymore. I was working 40 hours per week as an oncology transcriber until the company I worked for was outsourced by Nuance. Now, I am trying to find another transcribing job that does not require 2+ years of experience. I only have about 15 months of experience in oncology. Hello, I got a certificate from Allied schools that I completed their course for MT. I was under impression that the certificate was so that I could say I was a certified MT. I was wrong I guess.
