Can they legally make us work overtime? - me

I can see once in awhile but this is crazy. I have a lot of trouble with my left arm and can barely get through a shift let alone an extra hour. I'm also so mentally and physically tired by the end of my 3rd day my production starts to suck. Can they make us do this OT? I haven't done it the past 2 weeks except for 3 days of it and I suffered with severe pain in my arm. If they fire me, will I be elligible for UE? No, I haven't gone to a doctor because this insurance sucks and I can't afford to pay for x-rays and scans of my arm.

Has anybody said anything about the days you did not do OT? If not, I wouldnt worry about and still wouldn't do the OT. If they say something, tell them prior commitments make it impossible for you to promise set OT schedule but you will gladly get on when you can and help out. You have a schedule stating X amt of hours. They cannot MAKE you do more.

You can always apply for unemployment if anyone fires you. You have a very good "story" to tell them about how they are forcing you to do something you cannot do every day. Unemployment will investigate and more than likely will allow you benefits. As long as you have some documentation that you tried to explain that you are physically unable to do OT every day. You don't need to prove it necessarily, the company has to prove themselves.

My employer demands OT constantly. Frankly, I'd love the $$$, but I can only do so much. In fact, my stress level is so high with QA breathing down my back and a dozen different clients/protocols that I'm actually hoarse after 8 hours...don't know how THAT happens, but I can barely speak. I think I'm clenching my teeth or somehow tightening my throat. Anyway, my employer says that the only way MTs can avoid OT is to get a doctor's excuse. My opinion is that they don't deserve a doctor's excuse. I signed up for 40 hours, I transcribe 40 hours without fail. The co-pay for Dr visits is astronomical, and I don't think it's any of my employer's business anyway. It ought to be enough for ME to say I can't do it; a doctor shouldn't have to back me up. What on earth would he say, anyway? "The patient says 40 hours is all she can do, so don't ask her to do more." ??? Sheesh

would be fired for not doing mandatory OT. At that point, I was hoping she would say yes, but of course she didn't. And I am even just PT, not even 40 hours. I told her due to prior commitments I could not promise more than my contracted hours but I would be happy to help out when I could. And I did, when it was convienent for me. Several times, when I asked if I would get fired for no mandatory, she ignored my emails, wouldn't/couldn't say yes, I would be fired. Long story short, I am still there, happy I stood my ground, and CCM is gone, lol.

I also find it highly unlikely some MTSO will throw away your steady, reliable 40 hours a week just because you wont do another few hours.

I work second shift, so, due to the time change from PST to CST, after 10 pm my time, the last hour of my shift shows up as the next day. I worked 1.5 hours this morning and then my regular 2:30-11 pm shift, so I figure I should be paid for 1.5 hours overtime, but my calculated time (I recently discovered this on the current time card page) shows me as only getting credit for 0.5 hours overtime with 8 RT (Regular time) + 0.5 OT hours showing up on Sunday and then 1 hour showing up on Monday as ...
