M-Tech Jumpstart Editing program? - Ave

Posted: Jun 18, 2012

Hi all,

I'm considering going to school to get into this field.

I was looking into going to M-Tech and they told me they have two programs: one being the standard medical transcriptionist program, and the other being just for editing. I'm a bit confused about that though. What exactly is the difference? The editing program is less expensive to go to, but is it good? Are there any jobs out there for it?

Thanks for any help about this :]

you will probably need both. - msmt

We do both editing and straight typing because there is usually not enough work for one or the other, so it is mixed in together. Editing, as you probably know, is voice recognition where the computer already typed it and you just listen and make sure it caught the words correctly, which it rarely does.

I took an editing-only course... - (see message)

...but I had already been transcribing for a few years. I think you definitely need to learn both if you have never transcribed before. I took the course because at the time I was thinking of looking for another job to supplement my current straight typing MT job, which slows down seasonally, and also to get CECs for my CMT. I hated editing so much, though, that I decided to leave MT altogether. Ha! No kidding. I was just accepted yesterday into a surgical tech program that starts in the fall.

Good luck. I went to MTEC as well. They did not have the editing-only course when I went there, though.

It would seem that an editing-only course - would only be useful

to someone who was already proficient in transcription. Having only the editing training would likely limit your job prospects. You would be competing with people who had transctiption training and experience in addition to editing training.

Radiology Tech Job?
Dec 05, 2012

Does anybody know what is involved in becoming a radiology tech? You know, doing mammos, CTs, etc.  I know one needs schooling, but is there a lot of math, geometry, spatial stuff, and things like that?  I am NOT good in those things, so I don't want to invest any time or  money trying to do something that I know I'm not good at. Thanks, just checking into other careers besides this!   ...

Tech People
Oct 11, 2014

Honestly, why is it that tech wants to make an MTs' life miserable. Just got a new thing to fill out and I cannot open it. I have never used Excel if that is what it is. My computer has no program for me to open it. At any rate, I wonder why these people have to make things so hard. This new computer, a Windows 7 (which I had to have to do my work) is so complicated now. You don't get these other programs like you did on the other computers. You have to buy Word, Excel ...

FutureNet Tech
Dec 16, 2014

I was hired by FNT a couple of months ago and have found their editing platform less than ideal as it relates to production.  It's awkward and cumberson, allowing neither keyboard or mouse proficiency; it's a bad combination of both. I'm wondering if anyone out there has worked at FutureNet and found the secret to making money with their no-name platform that's Word based but does not allow auto-correct and has reassigned Word keyboard commands for their own use. Also, ...
