Who would type 10 or 12 hours a day to RAISE - THEIR BENEFIT RATE?

Posted: Aug 12, 2011

For that paltry 2 week's a year and no sick leave????  I think the ones typing off the clock are either trying to make a decent check or at least get their minimum lines and not get fired.

It soon won't matter anyhow - Ex CCM

[ In Reply To ..]
All this arguing is pointless. Every month I was asked to send in a list of those not following schedule, had a low line count, high QA percentage, and not meeting quality.

These people will be the first to be "let go" before the end of the year. They are also targeting employees with high wages.

Their goal by the end of the year is to keep the best of best, those who follow schedule, low QA score, high line count, low wage, and meeting quality. They preferably want all MMEs, some T3s, but not many T2s and T1s if they can avoid it.

These selected "elite" will be doing those hospitals who absolutely refuse work from the ILPs and they will also be QAing blanks and any ILPs that have to have 100% review.

The end is nigh. Sorry folks. It breaks my heart. I'll probably regret spilling the beans when I sober up.

Does QA make India look good?????

That's not very nice - Way to rock the hen house

[ In Reply To ..]
And obviously people can't believe everything they see on this board.

why is that so hard for you to believe? - writing on wall

[ In Reply To ..]
My CCM has been saying for close to 6 months "We want the best of the best." Then, we just heard about those people being terminated because they were not working their scheduled hours or meeting line counts.

The goal was to have 80% gone by the end of this year, according to the plan at take-over by CBay. They will accomplish this.

I am confused, however, as to why they keep hiring newbies if they are not keeping tier 1 or 2, but maybe they are not newbies so to speak, and just willing to work for way under what some of us "grandfathered" employees are.

I do think they are forcing some of us older workers out also, or maybe just some CCMs are treating those they are going to put on that list pretty badly. I used to speak to mine all the time and now, nothing. Wont even answer the phone for me anymore.

Guess I will be on the list!
The "best of the best" won't stay under current - conditions & wages, though...Justa thought.

How do you have a high line count - but low wage?

It's all relative - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
It's all relative folks. If one person is making $10/hour and producing 200 lines and someone else is making $15/hour and producing 200 lines, guess who will be the first to go? They may also keep the part-timers who get no benefits whatsoever. I do believe everything the ex-CCM says as it has all been pointing that way for years. Hopefully there will be enough hospitals out there that refuse to accept ILP work but that number is getting smaller and smaller all the time due to financial pressures and most will probably succumb to those pressures as time goes on. It's all sad but I don't think you even need to be sober to see the handwriting on the wall.

I would just lie on my resume that I quit. I have been working for them for so many years, but do you think they are allowed to give me any kind of reference for a different job - uh, heck no, that's not allowed. Plus I have had other little jobs here and there that I can get good references from.
and I really think that I would just be better off overall without the Q in my life.

how do you get unemployment if you are fired - curious
[ In Reply To ..]
I thought it was just if you are laid off or they cannot give you work during your shift. I never knew you could get unemployment for being fired.
Being fired & Unemployment - ILmt
[ In Reply To ..]
It depends upon what you were fired for. If you are fired due to gross misconduct, not meeting expectations, or something along those lines, you cannot receive unemployment. Basically, if you were fired because of something you did or had control over, you cannot claim. However, if you are fired due to circumstances outside of your control, you can file and get unemployment. You may have to fight for it, but you can at least start the process.
In California (and maybe some other states) you can get employment - Kiki
[ In Reply To ..]
if you are fired (for all but something extreme like stealing from company, drugs, etc). If you get fired for "not meeting expectations" in CA you are still entitled to unemployment (thank goodness because I'm sure MQ would use that one saying not meeting expectations but leaving out the part that their expectations are ridiculous and unfair)....

I've know one person here in California that have gotten unemployment and didn't even DESERVE it (made racial comments all the time to a particular ethnic group and he was a general biggot and ass). He got fired for a specific name he called someone having to do with their race. He was horrible and did NOT deserve unemployment. The company fired him and sure enough he got it. I was sickened but it tells me that if he can get it almost ANYONE can. So go ahead MQ, make my day! Fire me please.

Don't quit til you already have another job. It might - be wise to let them overlap too, just to be safe.
[ In Reply To ..]
By the time old employer notices you're working less hours, by then you will probably have made up your mind as to whether you're going to keep the new job or not. Then quit.

certification - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Does certification make a difference?

CERTIFICATION - MT - FRUSTRATED MME

[ In Reply To ..]
If it takes you over the pay limit, then that's all you can get - for myself, I took about 13% pay cut, and I didn't even have the MT CERT, so why would I even bother with spending all the money to get tested, plus all the money to keep up the certification?

[ In Reply To ..]
I think you hit the nail on the head. I was doing everything from clinic to "the big 4" and lots of difficult ESLs. When I just left MQ for a better job I found out I was classified as a tier 1. So yes, I was doing "acute care" work lots of time for clinic pay. I was pretty sure I was getting ripped off, and the more I see on here the more I know I was!!! Glad I have moved on... but sad to leave the MT/medical field.

Easy, not quite ready yet - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I think they are hiring newbees because too many have quit and they don't have things quite ready to move to India yet. Also, what better way to show the hospitals that US MTs are inferior to ILPs by putting MTs with only a year of experience in? For most, it takes 2+ years to really get the vocabulary and context down. Obviously, some can do it in less time, but you get my point.

best of the best? - Ang

[ In Reply To ..]
So these "best of the best" and "elite" have a low cpl but keep their noses blindly to the grindstone, right? Sounds about right for MQ. I earned my high cpl by expanding my skills and high quality over the years. I am looking around for a place that will reward THAT.

how can you be the best of the best - with a low line count?

[ In Reply To ..]
Everywhere else that would be the best of the worst.
Not low line count, low cpl - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
They want to keep those that can crank out maximum lines for minimum pay.

How is it bad for a company to only want the best? sm - Wow

[ In Reply To ..]
I think that the downfall of many MTSOs is that they have let their standards fall, and if MQ (or any company) is only keepnig the best of the best, it is a good move.

If someone does not follow schedule, sends too much to QA (out of laziness), has low line counts and cannot meet QA standards, why do they still have a job?

The sense of entitlement in this industry is amazing. Any other field, if you did not perform up to standards, you'd be jobless, yet in transcription, you can risk the lives of others, perform poorly, not work when you are supposed to, and all you get is a slap on the wrist.

It's about time that MQ and the other large companies raise their standards. The best of the best, as the OP put it, will still be there. The rest of them, well, perhaps transcription is not for them if they can't meet the requirements.

You said all of that as if it were a bad thing, but I think it's the best thing they can do!

Did you read what the OP said about low line rate? - Ang

[ In Reply To ..]
You did not mention that the OP said that these "best of the best" will have low line rates. OF COURSE there is nothing wrong with doing good work - what's wrong is to do that and then get pay cuts that take away what you have earned for no reason other than corporate greed. Called downward mobility. You did not mention that. The best of the submissive will stay for that.

Not true, a lot of government employees do not - perform up to standards

best of the best-poor pay - former MT

[ In Reply To ..]
There is nothing wrong with wanting the best of the best, but they need to be treated that way! For 10 years I reported to my designated shift faithfully every day, even when my nephew was air-lifted due to major trauma, I never missed a beat. I have Emails from supervisor (in the past before MQ) praising me for what great quality/production I had. After the Q bought us out, I tried to maintain a positive attitude. Last year after the first pay cut and loss of Internet reimbursement and production bonus, I was forced to go to part-time and accept more hours from another employer in a different field. This was for financial reasons. Then another pay cut just a few weeks ago... Then my account was sent overseas (at least I THINK this is what happened) as we were informed their "volume would be decreasing" in the next few months and eventually going away. I put my heart and soul into this job for 10 years, and this is what it got me! I do, however, have some great medical experience I suspect my one day be of great use to me!

This is simply not 100% true. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If you were (and I doubt this) a former CCM, you were NEVER "asked to send in a list of those not following schedule, had a low line count, high QA percentage, and not meeting quality."

TPTB send that information to CCMs in the form of all the reports they run on a monthly basis. CCMs would not have this information otherwise as they simply do not have time to track 100+ MTs down on all these variables. They don't need the CCMs to send in anything. They have all that information at their fingertips.

Other than that, I believe you are correct with the way things are going down.

figured that - former MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Dear former CCM... I sort of figured out what you are sayin, them wanting to get rid of anyone making a decent (somewhat) paycheck. The line where you talk about who their goal is to keep describes me perfectly. I was classified as tier 1 although I did everything from clinic to acute care, probably to keep my pay down. I was also one of the ones who recently received another pay cut in addition to the one last year because I was making "above average." I could have gone on to become an MME, but was reading the writing on the wall with this company. I don't think you will regret spilling the beans one bit... :-) I don't envy you or anyone having been put in the position of knowing what was up their sleeve. I wish you the best, I just moved on to another job for more $$$. Someday maybe I will us my medical background elsewhere, but for now I need to pay the bills and not feel threatened all the time.

QA - curious

[ In Reply To ..]
I was recently a salaried QA employee with the same company for 6 years. I was "laid off" due to the lack of sales-which I think is just because I was one of the highest earners. Now,0.8 for typing and 0.3 for QA is about the max anyone wants to offer. Are there any decent paying companies left, even for IC and not employee? I don't mind working 14-16 hour days, I just want to make more than minimum wage or thereabouts for my efforts!

why are you asking this on the MQ board? - I would move it to the main board

[ In Reply To ..]
If you work 14-16 hours a day, you need your head examined! That is utter craziness!
