What Medquist is doing to us - bailey

Posted: Jul 12, 2011

I want everyone to think about what Medquist is doing.  It does not matter what your job is for this company, they are systematically getting rid of the US employees because it comes down to the almighty dollar for this company.   It is not a US based company, the upper echelon is India.  This company sold out to its US workers long ago.  Shame on Medquist, but that is what they did.  It will not matter if we stay or go, they will be fine.  What each of us has to do is what is best for us.  I personally will stay until I find something else.  The stress is almost unbearable, but I need the paycheck.  I have worked for Medquist for 16 years and I have taken the paycut also.  The days of a company feeling any loyalty is long past gone in the US.  If QA thinks they are untouchable, look out, it is just a matter of time.  What you have done to help Medquist in this matter is an atrocity to every transcriptionist in this company.  You are helping this company get rid of each and every one of us with your petty picking of our reports.  If anyone has been a transcriptionist you know everyone makes mistakes, and with voice recognition it is unavoidable.  These reports are horrible.  Most of us did not go into this profession to be editors, but to be transcriptionist.  The days of goog paychecks in this profession are long gone.  If you are young, get retrained for something else, because there is no future in this profession. I  am near retirement and I am just hoping to hang on until then, but I doubt I will be able to do so.  Medquist is an evil, blood sucking company that cares nothing for its employees and I think that by the grade of God they will get theres eventually (anyway that is my prayer).  Good luck to you all and God bless you.

I love and completely agree with what you wrote. - If you can, get out and do something else.

It is all changing and not for the good. If you are young, change your career. You will be so glad you did!

What should we do if we're too old to change careers, - yet cant afford to retire?

.

OMG, never too old to change careers. - At least think about it change.

I have 6 in my class with ages ranging 54-63. They are back in college. FASFA.gov is great because they give you loans and help pay for your tuition. For example, it paid for my whole tuition and ended up getting an extra 1,800-2,000 extra for rent/spending/gas, etc. to attend school. Yes, you have to pay it back after you quit school and 6 months after school ended. But just knowing a better job with benefits and sick days and vacation days and helping people and smiling at them and getting appreciation and work/holiday parties and I could go on and on mean more to me right now then the crap I get from MQ after years and years of service and caring for what I do and yet get no retirement or vacation days of like 4-6 weeks after over 20 years of working for this company. The only thing I get is cut in pay each year. AM I BEING NEGATIVE???? NO, JUST STATING FACTS.

Think about change, at least it would be a lot better change then what you get with MQ.
Why do you think changing careers guarantees - L&L

you a JOB?

With 1,000,000s of more qualified and educated persons than yourself out of work. School is a gimmick...they want to make money too. What a Joke on you.
Actually, already have a part time job - in the hospital :)

Once I finish school, take a state certification test, I will be employed, full time with awesome incredible benefits and a free lunch here and there at the hospital.

Most others will be having jobs also. It is the nursing program that students are having a hard time either trying to get into a school (2-4 year wait) program or a job unless you have experience, at least in my state.
and what age will you be when you finish school, - if its okay to ask?

in your 40s? then you can probably swing it.

in your 50s? gonna be a lot harder to compete with the 20-somthings.

looking down the barrel of 60? or already there? potential employers are going to assume you'll plan on retiring at age 63-65, and then they'll have to go out and recruit again.

the other problem is the health insurance aspect. you just KNOW that palms get greased when a potential employer can keep the older (and more-frequent users of healthcare) out of the workforce, thereby saving the insurance companies billions.
getting the degree is one thing. but what about - getting HIRED? quite another.
[ In Reply To ..]

Yep - Never too old.

[ In Reply To ..]
You can do it!

You are so right. - oldMT

They don't care if the US employees are gone. Wasn't that the plan? To get rid of us so they could say there was a shortage of US transcriptionists.

Who Is New To Medquist?
Mar 01, 2010

How long did it take you to get up and running with the Q?  Why are they hiring?  I have been asked twice to test with them, but I always see NJA on this board!  Do you have plenty of work since you started, and how long has that been?  I don't want to go through the testing and hiring process and then sit there with no work available. ...

New To Medquist
Jan 10, 2011

Hi.  I am new to MedQuist.  Can people out there who do not hate the company please tell me if they have had a good experience or not?  So far, I am worried that I will not be able to make decent money, but I am hoping that when my speed improves, that will not be the case.  I have many, many years of experience, so that is not the issue.  Sound quality seems to be a problem, and I am finding that editing takes an inordinate amount of time.  I am a fast typist, so I ...

Job Op With Medquist
Feb 13, 2011

I currently work for a company that pays pretty much the same as Medquist.  I hardly have to deal with ESL docs and if I work my butt off I can make some decent money.  I'm very reluctant to quit my current job and work for Medquist after reading some of these posts.  I have no idea what kind of account Medquist is going to assign me to which has me nervous.  Also I'm about to be a single mom and I'm very worried about making the wrong decision.  ...

My Former Job At Medquist
Mar 30, 2011

Good afternoon all.  I left for SoCal in early August to care for an elderly family member and let my supervisor know about 3 weeks in advance but never heard a word from her.  I was flex-part-time.  We got back to NC about 3 weeks ago, and I'm going nuts trying to find a job.  Would you believe I received a termination notice in late October after not having worked August, September, or October?  What took them so long?  I was going to ask if anything had imp ...

If I Ran MedQuist
Jul 10, 2011

If I ran MedQuist:  Pay Rate:  No Tier 1, 2, 3.  All MQ MTs would have to be Tier 3 and paid as such.  Starting off at 9cpl with cost of living increases.  ASR rate would be paid 25% less MT rate.  25%!!!!!!!  Minimums:  Minimums will be set up at $$ amount each day, ASR or MT lines, daily minimum must me met at least 4/5 days worked and will be set at $100.00 (based on the new pay rate would be doable). Incentive:  Absolutely floors me this is a p ...

Thank You Medquist
Aug 12, 2011

For once again proving to me how idiotic your polices and practices are. Heads up to all those who recently left the Q employment. Be wary of your exit interview. I received a phone call from a Private No., which I foolishly answered. Someone, who first off, I had trouble understanding, asked a gazillon questions, mostly YES or NO answers, or a Good, Satisfactory, Very Satisfactory, etc., to rate the company and my employment. Naturally assuming (when I heard the word Medquist), that it was ...

Medquist Really That Bad?

I was all set to sign on as an FT employee benefited but decided I should check on here.   I have had a big cut in pay due to staff reduction at my current job and have to hurry up and find something else before our wallet starts bleeding too much.   Thanks for any constructive feedback you can offer.   Penny ...

HI! MedQuist Questions
Nov 18, 2009

Hi everyone! I'm hoping to test with MedQuist in the next few days. I am wondering if anyone can give me a general idea of what to expect as far as testing goes? Also, since this is my first MT job, I'm unsure how to handle wage expectations. I hope to work third shift and each weekend. Should I ask for a certain amount per line or try to negotiate a certain amount? How should I handle this? If you were a newbie who worked third shift (including every weekend), how much would you ask f ...

DSG/MedQuist/Outsourcing

Spheris - Another Medquist
Jan 30, 2010

I had an interview with Spheris yesterday.  It sounds too good to be true - more per line than I'm making now, plus production bonus and weekend shift differential?  And better insurance too.  Okay. I worked for MQ.  My check got smaller and smaller as they revamped the bonuses and brought in VR (which absolutely refused to be taught anything).  So tell me the truth - would I be jumping back into the same fire with Spheris? ...

Working For Medquist
Feb 10, 2010

I am thinking of applying for a job with Medquist.  Can anyone tell me about their experiences with this company?  I have read some bad press and do not want a headache.  I also know the "no work" scenario and do not want that either.  Last company I worked for made us either give up PTO for those times or work later in the day, assuming you have no other life.  We found out that a lot of that work was being funnelled to India.  Some of these companies ten ...

Does anyone else work for Medquist? I have been working for them for 8 years now and am getting really fed up with their unrealistic policies!!
