The facade is already starting to develop cracks. Not - surprisingly, MM is already starting SM

to make changes to what we were initially told about the coding program.  Got email stating you dont get an hour and a half to take the test, you only get an hour.  Wonder if they are planning on raising the test score needed or the quality score they mentioned.

Wonder if they will make changes to what some have been told will be training and apprentice pay?  Or will they increase the length of servitude from 2 years to 3?

Already the changes are starting and not in favor of the MTs.  But this IS MM.  You just must never forget who you are dealing with.

It's the industry in general. You have skilled workers who are having to maintain over 99% accuracy, accept below-average pay, yet turn out very high production and maintain that accuracy in order to keep a job. However, they will outsource to other countries to much less.

The initial e-mail said an hour OR an hour and a half - The hour was the firm number

Besides a time limit of 1 hour should be sufficient if you are proficient.

Gold rope my friends, gold rope.

You're just looking for something to complain about. - nm

The first email I got last week only said 1 hour - sm

I saw people saying an 1-1/2 and was wondering what they were talking about. Straight from the first email: "The Anatomy and Physiology test is made up of 50 multiple choice and true/false questions. You will be given one hour to complete the test based on your current knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology."

The original email said 1 hour but ... - anon

... the recruiter's email said to allow for 1 - 1.5 hrs. There seems to be a contradiction between original email and following ones from the recruiter (the one that invites you to take the test).

Either way, when you start the test, the time clock is set for 1 hour. I believe you are shut out of the test at that point, and are graded on what you have completed.

My opinion - Innocent bystander

You are MTs, not coders. Don't be too quick to jump on that band wagon because you may hate coding. Trust me it is nothing like MT. Unless they are testing your coding skills, they are have no idea if you can code, and neither do you. You need to take a course, AAPC-accredited for outpatient and an AHIMA-accredited program for inpatient coding. If you want to code, I would suggest doing it simultaneously with your apprenticeship. I made the transition from MT to coding, I can attest that it is difficult. I mentored and worked on site and I was slow in the beginning, I would never have made it had I been expected to work at home. Outside of M-Modal, no one will hire you without at least one certification and a year or two of experience. Know that there is very little room for mistakes and unlike MT there are not gray areas, your client's finances are on the line. If it's not coded correctly, they won't get paid. If the facility gets audited, your a** is on the line. I'm not discouraging anyone or trying to be negative, just be aware of what you are getting into, it is not anything to be taken lightly.

Strongly, strongly agree with this post - anon

On it's face it sounds fantastic and I think that is going to catch a few people in a net they find they don't want to be in, which normally is no biggee. But at the very least you are giving up your schedule and your current supervisor/team and at the most, if you fail, you could end up out of a job.

MT and coding have nothing in common skill set wise. Not saying one is better than the other, but absolutely DIFFERENT.

I am not saying that to dissuade anyone, just really, really think hard about it. I don't have a dog in the race, I am not testing. Just feel sort of concerned as some of you give me warm and fuzzies by how nice you seem.

Anyway, it's none of my concern, I just hate seeing MTs continue to get shafted (not saying that is what MModal's goal is, it just may be the result).

What's that saying? "A bird in the hand is - better than 2 in the bush."

A job you already have and know, is better than one that seems sketchy at best, and might not pan out as promised.
There is another saying: - Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained!

With all of the concerns raised (which is fine but we are really just speculating in circles)... it is still my humble opinion that if you TRULY want to move out of transcription to coding, and are invited into the pilot program, it is quite simply a no brainer.

There is another saying, something along the lines of sometimes you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

THERE ARE NO AAPC-ACCREDITED COURSES - Coder

Please explain how you can tell people that they have to take an AAPC-accredited course WHEN THEY DO NOT EXIST.

What Cracks Me Up.....
Feb 21, 2013

Do you know what I think is hilarious? When there is no work available, these MT companies just say, "Tough luck...nothing I can do about it". But when there is work overflowing, they are begging us to get on and work....it is time we turn the table and say "tough luck". With the insulting pay...do they really think we will jump and come and save them just because they are begging us to get the work done? As the saying goes....Money talks and "you know what" walks. LOLOL What a comedy show. ...

It Cracks Me Up The Way Some People Can Judge Others So Quick
May 12, 2010

Someone will come on here and complain about their company or ex-company because there is no work or they were let go and yes they are mad and yes they make a few derrogatory statements about the company and then someone always has to come on and say that they were obvious a poor transcriptionist or were lazy or something to that extent.  Tells these people, who are struggling (I know I am there, my van just got repossed) or have just lost their job, that they just can't cut it and thi ...

Got 99.3 On An Audit And Was Told To "slow Down And Do Better." Cracks Me Up
Mar 21, 2013

99.3 on an audit to me is great but QA manager says I need to "slow down." What do you want, high lineage or no lineage and no errors. I really don't think you can have both.  This company makes me ill. You get canned if you are not 100% and you get canned if you have low lineage. Set up for failure that is for sure.  Hey Indian MT"s, do you get 99.3% on audits?? Me thinks not. ...

Aug 30, 2013

Just curious.  I see people on here saying how some supervisors "play favorites" and that is kind of odd to me, since they really don't "know" any of us and most haven't even laid eyes on us.  Every job I have been on, I barely communicate with my supervisors at all.  I just log in and type.  On a "real world" job I have always gotten to know my coworkers and such, knew their family, etc., but it seems so different with online employment. Not long ago, my superviso ...

Help Starting
Mar 05, 2010

Hello, I was interested in becoming a MT because I recently became a mom and would like to work from home. Can anyone tell me the best way to get started? Is there a class/ school you recommend? Or is there a book I can study and take a test to get certified? I am financially strapped so which would be the best for me? I currently work in the medical field in the ER as a Doctors Scribe so I have quite a bit of medical terminology. Thanks for your input!  ...

May 05, 2015

Nuance is any better than it's getting around here at MM?  I see they want experienced MTs rather than newbies in one of the ads, so that would sound like they'd expect to have to pay better at least.  I used to think this place was better, but not lately.  Does anyone here work for both currently, or even recently? ...

Starting At Medquist
Sep 07, 2010

I have a question.  I was hired on at Medquist and was scheduled to start back on August 23.  The radiology account I had been assigned to hadn't gone live yet.  I was then told it would be approximately the second week in September.  Still no word from my supervisor as to a start date for training.  Anyone know of another person on the radiology team I can contact about this.  I have no other names except for my supervisor's name and the name of my recrui ...

Starting Pay At Medquist
Oct 16, 2010

Boy, Medquist is really trying to get my attention! I tested w them prev. but no luck.  Now, I have recd. three voice mails and two emails to get me to retest.  I have a job already for $9.30/hr that I like.  I have read horror stories about Medquist and seasoned employees there having their pay reduced to basically minimal wage. I got taken in by DIT Transcription for 9 weeks, so I am really leery now about being lied to.  What is a good line rate to start out with them if I ...

Starting A Business
Jan 29, 2011

Hi. I am new to MT boards here but wondering about how one would start a home business. I have worked for companies as a subcontractor but wish to advertise for myself and get some work from local doctors on my own. I would likely need a mini transcriber if I have to pick up and drop off tapes, but how does one do it over the internet? Would there be a way to get it through email set up of some kind with audio wav files that they could dictate to and I access it from there and just type and emai ...

Starting From Scratch
Aug 22, 2013

Hello everyone! I finally made the decision to go to school for either MT or coding. Then I found this site. After all the research from other sources and especially comments on this message board, I am steering towards coding. Since I have absolutely no background in medical, (I'm currently a legal assistant), I was wondering what the thoughts were on someone starting from scratch. I noticed most going to Coding are coming from Transcription. Do I even have a chance? Also, I've seen ...

Starting Pay Offer?
Apr 24, 2014

As an experienced MT, would you take a job that started at 7 cpl? I don't know if this is the norm now, but I have interviewed for 5 jobs this week, none of which have offered more than this. One of the jobs sounded great, but I am terrified to take it because of this 7 cpl offer. She said there was no wiggle room, so I can't ask if they'd consider going up a little. I have 10 years of experience and have been at the same job for 8 years.  Other than considering going off on ...
