Question - when filing for UE . . . - H

Posted: Jan 25, 2013

what kind of questions do they ask you?  Do we just tell them that we're supposed to be at 39 hours and are getting only x amount of hours?  And do we just give them our lines rates?  Our checks can vary in their amounts so I just wondered.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound ignorant, but this is new territory for me.  I want to be prepared if they ask me something, and I wasn't sure how specific they would get.  Thanks!

here are some answers - easy

You apply. Then, on Sundays you file your weekly claim. They will ask questions from the previous week (Sun-Sat) and you answer them. They will ask how many hours you worked, what is your gross pay, if you used PTO, if you have vacation or holiday pay, if you refused work, things like that.

You give them the total you earned that week before taxes come out. You can look in schedule source for weekly amounts on hours and then in docqumanage type in the dates and get your total lines and divide by your line rate, add in any amount if you took PTO, and then report that.

If you are still employed, you do not have to do a work search. It is really easy, and if you do something wrong, a window pops up alerting you. Just make sure your amounts are correct.

Whoever is reporting our wages has been reporting wrong sometimes. Just be prepared for that in case it happens. If they claim you earned more than you reported, make sure you have proof. Keep your check stubs to forward to UE office. Then they go after MModal and make them fix it.

I know it seems overwhelming, but it is really easy.

what i did - anon

I live in Texas so states may vary but the lady I talked to told me I do have to look for employment. And the day of the week (for me anyway) that I turn my hours in is Wednesday for the previous 2 weeks. For me we're using my benefit rate instead of the confusing lines per hour rate.

I am in Georgia - U/E too

There are different days of the week to "certify" that you are still U/E and have not turned down work given to you, and that you are actively looking for work. You then have to give them the names and addresses of two places where you applied for jobs that week. I went into the U/E office to file (but you can do it on-line). Here though, you have to physically show them a driver's license or passport, etc. to prove you are a US citizen and eligible. There was no option for ppl on production, but they were able to look on their computer and tell me how much I had made this year, so we figured it out as a yearly salary. They only go back 2 quarters to figure out how much you made, and your U/E benefits are based on a percentage of that amount. It doesn't come to much but every bit helps.
First I went into Ultipro - and went to the pay earning

detail as it breaks it down and you can see each week and they give you totals for each week. I called UE office and had someone file the claim for me as it was too confusing for the initial file online (at least for me). In the week I file a biweekly claim, I go in on a Wednesday because our paystubs are in Ultipro and I can see exactly what is what for the 2 weeks I am filing for and report my earnings for the 2 weeks prior if I worked less than 40 hours. It is confusing at first, but once you get the ball rolling it's not so bad. Do not wait because in my state we have a waiting week so that is a week that you claim, but UE does not give you money for. I hope that helps a little.

How long did it take you in TX to get a response from UE?

Filing Taxes As IC And As Employee
Feb 21, 2013

I work 20 hours a week as an IC for a national MTSO, paying my own taxes.  I also work 40 hours a week as an employee with benefits at a university.  Which federal form(s) should I use to file my own taxes?  I would use a 1040 for the full time employee job if that was my only job.  But since I also work half time as a contractor, do I need a different form?  Two separate forms?  Thanks so much for any help you can offer.  ...

Filing For Partial Unemployment
Mar 22, 2013

Any advice?  I was shy over 8 hours last week due to OOW (towards end of pay period, so no way to catch it up) and over 10 hours this week now (my last scheduled day was yesterday, and I'll be checking in to see if I can catch up some today on my day off, which won't be 10 hours, of course).   Is there generally a certain number of hours, rate of pay, etc., that one has to be shy of actual scheduled in order to qualify?  I understand it may be different from state to st ...

STAT-Copy Technologies Filing Bankruptcy
Nov 07, 2011

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post on the company board that STAT-Copy Technologies is over 2 months late paying me (over $2500).  A week and a half ago, she had sent me an e-mail saying she sent a check, which I have not yet received as of today.  I contacted her again to let her know I had not received any check.  I told her I was tired of messing around and begging for my money and she would hear from my attorney.  Well, she just e-mailed me and told me her company is filing ...

Filing For Early Social Security/Working Part-time
Apr 07, 2012

Anyone here working part-time and receiving early Social Security benefits? I am considering doing this in the next year and wondering if anyone else is already doing so. Thoughts?  I've been working full-time since the age of 18 years and part-time before that, with only a 6-month period of time between jobs, but was collecting severance pay those 6 months. So, I really feel I deserve to get back some of the money I've put into Social Security over the last 4-1/2 d ...
