M*modal MTs - girlygirl

Posted: Mar 25, 2012

I'm considering applying to M*modal.  I've been around the block (several times) so I'm aware of the reputation, etc.  This means anyone who just wants to slam the company, please bypass this thread.  For those of you who work for M*modal and are happy, what is it you like about the company?  Would you recommend a friend apply?

TIA.

GG

I am glad you asked the "slammers" to bypass. - Here is my experience:

I am content. I worked for a hospital 10yrs before I was outsourced to M*Modal. I knew nothing about the industry, nothing about all the company politics, QA, VR, etc. All this was new for me.

With that being said, I have a very good CCM and quality coach. I like the fact that they do not have a "QA dept" so to speak and that one QA coach is responsible for doing audits for your team. If you know what she expects, then you dont have all the conflicting feedback from different QA people.

I work on a team that has about 16 to 18 accounts, but only 3 of them are my primaries. I recieve 95% of my work from my primaries and only get work from about 4 other accounts when primaries are low. I have yet to type for every single account on my team. So I am fortunate there.

It has been peaceful for me. I punch in, do my shift, and punch out. I have a set dollar amount that I aim for everyday and strive to meet that, so far so good. It has taken me time to adjust to VR and pick up speed with it, but I am paid more then the avg 4cpl line with a reasonable straight typing rate. Yes, most of the work is going to be voice recognition, but sounds like that is every where you go these days.

The only emails I recieve are the occasional company emails and daily emails from CCM showing statistics for our accounts and usually she will ask for those who are able to email her with whatever extra hours they can do in OT - We have a very high workflow on our accounts.

The QA coach will send team reminders for the accounts if there is anything they are having trouble with or if something changes with one of the accounts and thats about it.

All in all my experience has been pleasant. My check is set to go to direct deposit and its always there the morning of payday. I have no complaints.

Thank you for your help - Guess I'll post a new thread, and see if anyone answers it.

I didn't take the medical just PTO and 401K - AnonToo

[ In Reply To ..]
But I honestly invest differently than most for retirement so I don't know the specifics on their 401K plan, except for it was profit matching (similar to what my husband's company does--but again we don't count on that either).

At any rate, you accumulate PTO. I think it's 15 days a year and it DOES carry over or at least some of it (I ask EVERY year because my husband's company, where he had 6 weeks of vacation, doesn't and they were not told that until LAST YEAR IN NOVEMBER so basically 75% of staff left for most of November and December LOL).

My experience - AnonToo

Very similar to what the first responder said. I've worked with MModal off and on for nearly 15 years, taking time off to have kids. I went through 2 buyouts and when I decided to quit a small MTSO (who pays LESS than MModal and constant micro management--but good accounts) I went back. Paycheck is there and on time. Of course we have good and bad dictators and now SR is something new for me, but it IS the future and has been since probably 1997 when I remember a company down in Houston (I think) tried recruiting me then.

I do make good money, I made more in the past but not much more (we're talking maybe $100 a month more but with the cost of inflation technically it is a lot) however, it's more than what people keep quoting here per line for straight typing and for SR.

I think worst case is you hate it, so you leave. Most of the big companies in my experience are the same, but also in my experience (from others) the bigger they are--the more secure your job is if you are a good transcriptionist.

Wow, 2 whole happy people here... - good to know

[ In Reply To ..]
Guess I should pay attention to the unhappy people then, maybe there is some truth to it if only 2 people have a positive experience there.

I hope I'm not jinxing myself here, but I too, so far have had a decent experience. I really think so much of it has to do with your CCM and QA as the previous poster stated. I do work on mostly all ESL accounts, and the reports are all acute care so they're not easy. It has taken me three months to get used to them as I rarely get the same doctor twice. I almost never hear from anyone unless there are specific account changes, and my CCM seems very nice and personable the few times I have communicated with her. Presently, my only issue is that I need to get direct deposit because I did not receive my check last week.

I'm semi happy - jh

the whole industry is screwing us not just a particular company..I do wish things were run a bit more efficiently but its a very impersonal way of working..I mean from home with people you never meet..I can say it beats the hell out of paying 4+ a gal for gas right now to go to and from a job..
Paying $4.00 per gallon for gas - BH
[ In Reply To ..]
I agree with your comment about working at home is better than paying $4.00 plus for gas. Also, it seems like for the few years since I have been an MT at home, I have been having dreams about being late to work at the office, so I guess it's better that I work from home. LOL.

If you are the original OP - sm

and were looking for honest opinions then why would you post here anyway?

You said yourself "you have been around the block a few times" and if thats so, my guess is you should already know that this board is biased and the odds of you finding anyone here with anything good to say are slim to none.

Next exactly the best place for research when you are seaking unbiased opinions. Good luck on your job search!

Snarky poster was not the OP - I am

I find it hard to believe no one is happy there or maybe they are happy so don't need to subject themselves to the criticism of this site. The DebbyDowners win. I'll roll the dice and get my own experience. Thanks.

I took a 15% paycut at one company - a 4% paycut at another
[ In Reply To ..]
and then got hired here at the same rate after the 4% paycut..The INDUSTRY sucks..not necessarily just MMODAL but I guess they are the biggest, so they lead the pack for everyone else?

Happy MModal MTs - happy MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I may be a little late posting, but I have been here a couple of years now, and have been in the transcription field for 20 plus years. I don't find too much different here than I have other places. Nothing is perfect of course, but I have a good CCM and QA person, get a regular check, get back what I put in. This whole industry has some of the same problems, VR, lower pay than we used to get, etc. For me it is still worth it because I am not paying outrageously for gas, buying work clothes, paying for lunch out, etc. The insurance isn't is good as it used to be and more expensive, but from what I see its the same everywhere.

MModal MT - kcmt

[ In Reply To ..]
I have been with MedQuist/MModal since 2009. I was at another company very similar prior to coming here. I will not say that I am 100% happy. However, I do consider myself fortunate to have a great CCM and a group of accounts with steady work. I do feel for those who get bounced around from account to account with no real sense of "home."

When I first started at Medquist, I was doing about 60% editing and 40% straight typing. Again, I had repeat dictators so I was able to create my own standards and get my typing done quickly. Now, however, I do about 99% editing and 1% straght typing. The editing is not twice as fast as straight typing because now the computer that "learns the dictation" on the back end must be learning from a remedial teacher because it is just crazy sometimes.

I am fortunate in that I am not the main breadwinner in my family (thank goodness for us or we would starve) and I do get benefits for my trouble (however miniscule they might be).

I think with any job, at home or in an office, it is what you make it. I think the transcription industry has taken a nosedive as a whole...not because of the quality of those doing the work but the morality (or lack thereof) of the people in charge of the transcription companies.

Stepping down from the soap box now....

I thought they were 2 different services.  Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows.  All the small companies have been merged I guess.  I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR.  Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

M*Modal VR
Sep 25, 2010

I have another question.  When one does a draft in VR, does MT get paid for all lines in the draft or would an MT get paid if it has to be edited.  I will be trying to learn this in the next few weeks and I am scared to death I will not catch on and then I might be without a job.   I have a feeling I might not get paid for the whole draft report.  Then again it may depend on the company.  Any opinions please.   Thanks  ...

M-Modal Feedback
Dec 16, 2009

Would appreciate feedback from anyone using M-Modal, especially Webmedx Enterprise MTs. Dreading the conversion and wondering if my fears are well founded. I'm pretty fast straight typing but rarely get more than 50 lines more an hour with current VR. Seems all it takes is just one lousy report to negate the lines made on the decent reports. Afraid it's just going to be worse with M-Modal and the whole drop-down heading thing. Anyone have any encouragement to offer? ...
