What I am Waiting and Hoping For, - for America

Posted: May 23, 2014

That any large American company that has sent its work overseas would bring it all back and become a "hero" company by doing so, which would garner a lot of press for them, create improved morale across the board, and would hopefully see increased sales and jobs if the American public bought their product over something they could get at Walmart cheaper. This would hopefully trigger copycat companies who want to get in on the act, and maybe we might see a return of jobs to this country. When I pick up a catalog of clothing from some popular sporty company, all their clothes are imported, which says so in the description. I plan to write them a letter stating that I will not be buying anything from them anymore and will tell all my friends and relatives not to since their bottom line is greed and to immediately remove me from their mailing list. OUR CLOUT IS IN OUR POCKETBOOKS. We need to stop supporting these companies if at all possible. Complacency is our enemy.

I used to shop off of the LL Bean catalog all the time, and then I happened to be in Maine and went to Freeport and to their store and saw the Made In China labels emerging and immediately sent them a note, only to receive some sort of "spin" reply about quality, pricing, blah, blah, blah. That was in the late 1980s and I have not shopped there since and it has not changed. I stopped buying Nike as well and nothing has changed. I wait until the iPhone was a year old, before I paid the outrageous prices Apple charges when they are new, but the beat goes on. I understand what you are saying and you are correct, but this country has sold out and everyone in the world knows it but us!

In autumn, the hideous blow up plastic Halloween or fall decorations on peoples' lawn, made in China, of course. Go to your local produce market or farmers' market and decorate with pumpkins, corn stalks and bales of hay. Why pay more AND put your fellow American out of a job?

pet treats made in China - buy American

[ In Reply To ..]
After I started hearing about pets dying from dog treats made in China, I started checking the labels. You have to be careful, some will say PACKAGED in America, but the product is actually from somewhere else. Last Christmas I was looking for a treat stocking and all of them had products from China in them, so I decided to just buy the goodies individually. I asked a clerk to please show me where the Made in America treats were, and I told her I refused to buy anything that came from another country for my dog. Now I'm noticing that many of the products have prominent labeling that says Made in the USA. They realize that our priority is the safety of our 4-legged family members, and those labels make it easier to find what we want.

I've actually thought about writing to Wal-Mart and telling them to give us the option to buy American-Made products. If you have 5 blenders on the shelf that come from China, also have one from the US and hang a big tag in front of it. I don't care if that blender is $5 or $10 more, that's the one I'll buy. I bet a lot of other people feel the same way.

OPEN LETTER - CHALLENGE - TO PETCO & PETSMART
May 26, 2014 at 11:18am

Open Letter to James M. Myers, CEO of PetCo & David K. Lenhardt, CEO of PetSmart

We applaud the recent decision made by your respective companies to stop carrying pet treats made in China.

Your decision to finally listen to your customers, and do the right thing is commendable. Your actions could be the start of a new era in the pet treat industry, where healthy domestic products dominate the shelves in this country!

Please make no mistake, we wholly grasp the magnitude of this move, but we want to tell you why it’s not enough - and to also give you a challenge.

We are Animal Parents Against Pet Treats Made In China. You know who we are. We are the grieving pet owners who have been beating at your doors for well over 2 years. You have seen our Facebook page, you have been in our victims’ group. You were aware of the FDA cautions. You have been at the receiving end of countless letters, emails and petitions. For years, your loyal customers have spoken face to face with your employees, and begged you to remove these risky products.

During these 2.5 years we have watched the deaths associated with imported jerky treats climb to the current number of over 1000. 1000 deaths! More than 1 beloved pet was dying a horrible, painful death every single day in this country. Now, add in the over 4800 pets who didn’t die – and the unreported masses. The ones who suffered a simple gastro upset and the ones who clung to life in veterinary ICU’s across the USA. Thousands of pets were nursed back to health, a thousand couldn’t be saved – all at an unimaginable emotional cost and substantial financial cost to shocked and stunned pet parents.

Then, on May 16, the FDA issued its most current numbers – those numbers now included 3 humans – and suddenly, within the space of 4 days, you announced that you would be phasing out all treats made in China. Our response was one of GREAT joy and relief and we promoted these decisions with great fanfare. We will continue to praise your actions, and encourage our members to appreciate the complexity and difficulty of your action.

However, we have to wonder 3 things:

If those 3 humans had not been taken ill, would you leave the treats on your shelves and still be willing to see our dogs die?

WHY is it going to take SO LONG to get MIC treats off of your shelves?

Why stop at MIC – why not include ingredients sourced in China?

Here is our challenge to you:

Remove all MADE IN CHINA treats and food items from your stores no later than July 4, 2014.

Think about it. This is a red, white and blue opportunity for you! You could take advantage of one of the most amazing promotional opportunities you will ever get. We believe the current stock can be traded back to the vendors for new products that were not made in China – Milo’s Kitchen, for example, who has committed to Made in the USA products. YOU have that buying power and you should wield it.

Concerned about empty shelves and walls?? Put up your awesome signage letting your patrons know you heard them and you CARE enough to have removed these potentially lethal products. And then, on the holiday weekend of July 4th, proclaim your TRUE compassion with a China-free treat & food zone and FREE samples of one of the many wonderful domestic treats – we KNOW you can get several pawsome companies to come through with samples!!

So what do you say, Mr. Myers and Mr. Lenhardt – the ball is in your yard – follow through with your commitment in a timely manner and REALLY show your loyal customers you care. On behalf of our 24,000 members, we ask you to meet our challenge. You have taken the lead so far – now really set an example for the rest of the industry.

May 10, 2012

I applied, tested for and passed for the Accentus STARTeam position.  I received a call from HR for the first interview and went on to a second interview with who would be my transcrition manager within hours of the first interview.  I was on the phone with her for over an hour.  She was very excited about my experience and told me I would be a great fit.  It was very clear that she thought I would be a valuable addition to her team and the interview went very, very well. &nb ...

I'm Hoping Someone Can Help Me.
Apr 01, 2010

I have Windows XP on my computer.  My boyfriend has his kids every other weekend and a couple times every week for visitation.  We caught his oldest son (12) looking at some, uh, BAD sites last time he was here. I have set up a separate account to be used by the kids when they are here that gives them limited access (no downloads, access to files, etc.) but when it comes to the internet, it's a nightmare!! I have changed the internet security settings, but it seems that changing ...

HOPING
Dec 22, 2012

After waiting for what seems forever, I finally get a phone call yesterday for an in-house job interview at a local hospital here doing transcription.  I cannot WAIT to get away from the pickiness of QA, ALL the acct specs, MTIs and WORST DICTATORS IN THE WORLD.  I PRAY I get the job.  Full time with full REASONABLE benefits!  no more 0.04 cpl or 0.08 cpl! ...

Desperately Hoping
Dec 11, 2014

My lunch hours are proving to be quite productive.  Applied to 4 jobs in 2 days.  I am so HOPING that at least one of these pans out because I have had enough of this BS.  Cherry picking at its finest going on.  I have had nothing but the bottom of the barrel since Saturday.  My lines also seem lower than usual no matter what I do.  Sick of being robbed by these <insert choice of profanity here>.  I can't wait until I can breathe, sleep and just over ...

MT Hoping To Move To RN Position
Mar 05, 2013

I am currently a full-time MT.  I am hoping to get out of the field completely soon.  I have an RN license, I put nursing on hold to raise my kids and enjoyed doing MT while they were little.  Now money is extremely tight and I know I can make much more doing nursing.  However, I am terrified of going back.  I have done the same thing now for 15 years, and it is SOOOO hard for me to change!  Can anyone who has gone through this give any suggestions of how to get bac ...

Silly Me. I Was Hoping For Better Insurance.
Nov 04, 2014

Way to go Nuance! I had actually hoped we'd at least get copays this time, even if it meant paying more. Disgusting. Plain and simple. Having insurance that you can barely afford and can't even use because of the obscenely high deductible and no co-pays is ridiculous. This year is even more special - we are signing up for something we don't even know that we can afford because of the compensation changes they have promised. I am going to check into opting out a ...

I Am So Angry, This Might Not Make Sense, I Am Hoping It Will......sm
Dec 14, 2011

I have been a very successful MT (mostly) for over 18 years, building up my experience, my abilities with ESL and difficicult dictators, constantly growing in knowledge, and each time fought to be careful with which job I chose and to better myself each time. Okay, I know things are tough, but I just read something really ABRASIVE AND SAD. An ad that touts loudly "ALL STRAIGHT TYPING" "YAY"!! Very celebratory. Next line----and this is for experienced ACUTE CARE -- 7 cpl. I made that back i ...

May 30, 2012

Hoping To Start Nursing In 2015 At 35
Nov 20, 2014

Hoping to start a nursing program.  I am 35 and have been a medical transcriptionist since graduating from high school.  I would like to eventually obtain a Master's in nursing.  I have been planning this for a while (almost two years), but I've been really nervous, so I have kind of put things off.  I think one thing I'm nervous about is it is my first time going to college.  I was trained for medical transcription at a technical school while still in hig ...

Hoping To Inspire Some Of You That Are Struggling (long Post, Sorry!)
Mar 01, 2014

Hello all my fellow transcriptionists! I love this board. I have been coming here and reading most of the messages here for many years now, even though I haven't really been a 'medical' transcriptionist for about 4 or 5 years now. I love all your comments, feel for you when you share your frustrations, and gain insight into the changes that have continued to happen with medical transcription (in particular, with the MTSOs). I am heartbroken for the many of you that are work ...

I Was Hoping To Find Some Info On How To Increase Line Count
Jun 30, 2012

but from the posts, I can see that everyone else is in the same boat I am.  I can only agree that this is the lowest paying MT job I've ever had and that the constant haranguing about working extra over the weekends is completley annoying.  I worked for 5.5 hours for Nuance the other day and made $47.  I then worked for a private client for 2.75 hours and made $82.  If only he had more work for me!  Unfortunately, I'm expecting him to go on the EMR this year an ...

Still Waiting
Oct 15, 2012

I have been waiting since last Thursday to hear back from my supervisor about possibly picking up another account (would be my 5th) or changing my hours so that I wouldn't constantly be OOW. How Do You Use Your Waiting Time?
Jul 02, 2010

Hi, I am an old MT but new to working at home. Didn't know beans about any company, but have gotten hired by a company that (as I found out on these forums) apparently overhires. As I understand it, this means that my "8-hour shift" may stretch to fill the entire day, as I wait for dictation to become available, because we have to do a certain number of lines, if there's work or not. My question to anyone in the same situation is, What do you do during the time you are waiting? Is it ...

WAITING FOR WORK???

Waiting Time Pay
Mar 29, 2013

Did you know that the Department of Labor requires that you be paid for waiting time?  That's right. Keep track of all the time you are out of work during your regular shift and are required to be available to work when the jobs come in.  All that time is billable to the company and is, by federal law, due to be paid to you!  Keep track of all your out of work or waiting for tech support down time!!! Bill the company for it. ...

Do You Ever Feel Like QA Is Just Waiting
Feb 12, 2014

for you to slip up, mess up, and they enjoy it when you do? In the last couple of weeks, I've realized that maybe I'm not cut out for this (I've been an MT for 15 years). I hate feeling like I always have to be on the defensive. In 2 weeks, I have had some pretty major errors attempted to be pinned on me. One of them wasn't even my report. The other one was a mixup. But it feels like they (QA) delight in finding these things and trying to pin them on people that don ...
