Pay for Templates - curious in GA

Posted: Jan 08, 2010

Okay, I am curious about templates such as normal exams, things that are templated. Do you get paid for them. I'm working for a group that has decided not to pay us for those and is actually taking money away from us on notes because they have templates in them.  Anyone ever heard of this?  Should I put my running shoes on now or what....??:)

I would guess there are still plenty of companies that pay for templates but with the economy and all (and the MTSO using that excuse all the time) I am certain we will see a trend away from that. Mt Pay has decreased considerably over the past five years, perks have gone away, and this would just be the next step. VBC....was just the start.

I get paid for templates and never have money - taken away if 1 comes up

It is part of the job. I think you are being cheated.

I mean seriously - we already have to input some of the demos we do not get paid for such as patient name, date, referring, birth date. Our platform even has us type in Dear Dr. where we do not get paid for that. We do not get paid for copies either.

Imagine the reports without the above-mentioned information!! Since lowering the rate per line to what it typically is now, if you take away template pay (which I am sure the company still gets paid for those lines), what incentives are left? I make A LOT of $$ off templates at present and if you take that away, it would be a HUGE cut in pay. I would seriously have to consider throwing in the towel with that company.

Sorry, I SAY - Fingers nm

Get out those running shoes! That is why we have expansion files and templates to make more money.... You can bet they are charging the client for the cpl including the templates. What company is this? You can E-mail that info. Pretty soon we will paying them to transcribe...................

Man - how stingy is THAT? - What will they stoop to next? nm

Yes, working for a company like that as we speak. - Ginger

This particular company does not pay for any templated headings, footers, headers, or normals. They are actually deducting approximately 20 lines per document from MTs because the client does not feel it is fair to pay an MT for untranscribed items. I am losing approximately 600 lines per day due to this. UGH! Seems everyone is trying to cut corners these days, even if it means poor quality, and the MT field is a thing of the past..............

Pay for Templates - Getting sick of it

Wow, it sounds like we are working for the same company. they paid for them before but now all of a suddent they have decided to take it away. My arms are numb when i wake up in the morning, because I am typing about 1800 lines and getting paid for about 1000 of them. Are they a service?

Ginger - did you get that info from the client or MTSO? sm - re-client does not feel its fair...

In other words-did it come from the horse's mouth or the horse's arss?

Most times when they say that, they're just saying that.

Sorry, but it's time to get on your running shoes. How we produce our work is of no consequence to the hospital or physician practice. I don't ask my accountant to give me a discount because he uses a preformatted form to fill in the numbers, and I sure as heck don't ask my doctor for a discount because he is using an electronic medical record.

If your service is cutting your pay, it's time to start looking elsewhere. It's just a way for them to line their own pockets.

Yep -- it is definitely time for the running shoes. Until we (MTs) as a group start standing up to some of these companies regarding issues like this (and many others) in a professional manner, they are going to push to get away with as much as possible. I know that jobs are hard to come by and it's scary, but I think taking away template pay would push me right out the door!

I get paid for normals the doctors dictate where I work now...When I worked for another company 10 years or so ago, I was paid half of what the per normal report was. I was doing radiology. But if they said they wanted a normal and I pulled it into my workspace and then they changed any word or added to it, I took it out of normal status and charged full report.

Bet they still charge the client for all those lines. - I am sick of this. nm

Pay for templates - BH

I used to work for a company until May of 2009 that charged us .13 for every report for the template charge. They only paid us 8 cpl and then took off the template charge. Eventually, I was there long enough so they quit taking it out of my pay.

My company invites us to store our own templates - MissIndigo

in a central location available to all transcriptionists, so we share as needed, which overall works nicely. We're not paid for creating them but are paid for the lines we create by using them. It helps balance out the "umm, umm, page turn, page turn, page turn, let's see......, etc." others.

If this changes over time (possible if clinicians start using more templates), I'll be unhappy (even outraged if the situation is outrageous), but the hit won't be devastating. Although I like to see template reports come along, where I make my real money report after report is in personal expansions/personal templates, payoff for hundreds of hours I've invested in storing not just entire physical exams and boilerplate but also "the patient presents reporting" "patient presented reporting that" "reports that he was" "and she reports" "that" "reports that the pain" "that the pain recurs" "pain waxes and wanes" "waxed and waned" "recurs after meals" "the pain recurs" "recurs intermittently." "the pain has been recurring intermittently for the past"

I don't type ANY phrases out long form.
When I do type in what would be an abbreviation for whatever dictation/correction I hear and it's not there, I create it.

Please note that these templates and abbreviations belong to ME, not my employer, and if I leave they leave with me. I have many, many templates for individual physicians, but my most valuable templates/abbreviations are the "universal" ones I've created: ones that, like the boring samples I offer, work for any physician anywhere, coming to me as transcription or editing, doesn't matter. I could lose all my regular accounts today (or start a new job) and be cruising along with new ones tomorrow.

Also note that the client negotiates a rate with the MTSO based on overall production, including templates, but if I use my expander to beat the average others are producing I'm out ahead. And I do consistently--until the day comes that most people are also doing it ("am consistently" "are doing" "doing it" "most are doing" "people are doing" .... :)

Keeping at least this degree of control in my own hands is how I can still be such a Suzy Sunshine. Best wishes.

Sure have. I know exactly what you mean. - sm

I'm wondering if it is the same company too. AllType would have built-in templates, but we would have to transcribe verbatim. So if we had to change things in the report, the characters of the inserted template were deducted from our line count. They did this for standard reports too.

My new primary pays by the dictated minute - totally losing money with normals

[ In Reply To ..]
It take 0.09 dictated minutes to say "type a normal". So I'm basically giving them their normals for free, and it keeps me from typing on other accounts where I could actually get paid. I emailed my supervisor that its unfair and she ignored me. I need a new job. :(

QT And Templates
Jun 26, 2011

Does anyone know the going rate for qualified text?  Between that and the templates my accounts uses, my line count is down by at least half.  The company I am with now pays 1 cpl for QT and the templates that load require more time to delete headings, cut, paste and move around than the actual typing.  We use Emdat, which is a good platform, but the templates and QT are only a benefit for the client (and company) and certainly not the MT.  I think this is probably worse than ...

Standards/templates
Dec 16, 2010

I've been with MQ for about 2 months now.  I've noticed that many, many of the dictators use what we used to call "standards" or templates.  We just inserted the canned text and made changes where indicated. Is this allowed?  I know some has their own (crtl S), but can I make my own and use them?  ...

Question Regarding Templates
Jul 23, 2013

I don't know why the templates aren't in line with account specifics--the fonts are all over the place, headings are bolded, words are abbreviated and slashes are used...sometimes there are blatant misspellings. What QA approved these templates? These are what we are to use over and over again? They're all WRONG!!! I find it ironic that these are the templates provided to us by Nuance, and over 50% of them do not comply with their own standards. Yet we're supposed to take ou ...

Line Counts And Templates
Jun 22, 2010

Hi - I have a question regarding counting templates. I have a new doc who wants me to only count what he dictates, and not the templated review of systems, past medical history, social history, etc. which is all unchanged (unless he says to change it). Do you cut and paste your work into a "count" file to get the total, or do you tell the doctor that it has to be included in the count. And what about the times he does make changes to the "templated items". I welcome any suggestions. ...

5 Cents A Line With Templates

Normal Templates - Concerns (sm)
Nov 30, 2012

We are inundated with sloppy dictators, perhaps the ones that can't use VR. We know how much they hate to dictate repetitive ROSs and PEs, thus they love using templates, or paragraphs from previous reports. Does anyone else note a lot of doctor errors in using these methods, i.e. racing through and not changing all the template details? I have found that NPs and female doctors are able to multitask and get this right, but the only males that can do this are the older ones who have a lot o ...

Who Is Responsible For Adding The Templates?
Sep 13, 2013

Who is responsible for adding the templates?  I am finding a lot of errors lately in these when I pull them in.  For instance, spacing.  Several, if not many, are only single spaced between the end of a sentence and the next and only 1 space after a colon.  Yet another thing to slow us down.  Got "dinged" for pulling one in and not changing.  I assumed (yes we all know what happens when you assume).  That will never happen again if I can help it.  Also noticing 1 space between state ...

Doctors Using Their Own Templates Jeopardize Patient Care
Dec 11, 2012

I don't know about the rest of you but I have very few male doctors who are careful enough to adequately edit normal templates to meet the patient's particular criteria. It's gets pretty time consuming to do it myself, especially when we are not qualified to do this in every instance. Female doctors almost always attend to these details. NPs, PAs do a much better job than the male docs, but few male docs either care, feel it is their job, or take responsibility for this editing. ...

Speech And "templates"
Sep 09, 2011

I work on eScription and was wondering how to handle this...  I think speech on this platform is generally great, except when the speaker wants to use a template.  And by template I mean the basic headings and occasional standard blurb that goes in (that they do not dictate but want in there).   So when speech gets a hold of it, you end up inserting the template and then wasting all kinds of time cutting and pasting the pieces to wherever they go. Is there a better way?? ...
