info Webmedex on health insurance - working to the bone

Posted: Dec 01, 2009

I am so sick of not making any money!  I brought home about 16,400 this year and this is only my 5th year in MT, so I suppose that is okay... not really.  I found out there are brand new MTs in my company making more then me!  I was like come on now!!!  Anyway, I have decided to make ends meat that I need to take another 8 hour job.  So I will be working the dreaded 16 hour work day to make sure me and my 3 kids have a roof over our heads.  I know I can do it, but if I take the second job I will lose the kid's health insurance through the state of Georgia and my son has a seizure disorder.  I heard that Webmedex is a good company to work for and their website said they make their MTs smile... lol... so I was wondering if anyone who works there can tell me about the insurance at Webmedex, like what production requirements you need to get it and about how much it would cost for a family (me and my 3 kids).  Thank you so much for even reading this!

Webmedx - looking

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I am interested in Webmedx too and hope someone will be kind enough to post this info. I am in the process of filling out a questionnaire for them that is very long. I have already tested and sent my resume once, and now they want it again, so I am just wondering if after I jump through all of these hoops, will I like this company. Thanks in advance.

Why are they looking??? - Susan

[ In Reply To ..]
I can't for the life of me understand why they continue to hire when current workers aren't making enough to feed their families? I hope everyone understands that each company's website is designed to make them look good. Obviously, they are not going to promote the fact that a large percentage of their work force is unhappy and wondering how they are going to feed their families.

Have you ever looked at the Community Page? Those same recruiting ads are there for internal MTs to apply for. Also, have you ever thought that they are hiring for accounts that we won't fill? (i.e. 90% ESL, high level 4 acute care work types, graveyard shifts, etc.)

Especially since they are raising our insurance rates so much - MTPockets

[ In Reply To ..]
We got an e-mail yesterday raising our insurance premiums, copays and deductibles to the tune of about $3000 per year for a family plan. We haven't had a raise in years.

I wonder if upper management is sacrificing their benefits? Doubt it!
Who do you think sets the insurance rates? Not the companies - True for ANY employee!
[ In Reply To ..]
We are getting ripped by the INSURANCE COMPANIES, not the MTSOs on this issue. Send your complaints to the insurers!!
But the companies could give cost of living raises - To help cover cost of living
[ In Reply To ..]
When was the last time WMX gave any raises to MTs or QA? I think never, in fact, we recently had our pay cut.
When was the last time the hospital gave them a raise do you think? sm - Former MTSO
[ In Reply To ..]
It's not as easy to increase wages as you think - prices are set by admin people in the finance offices of hospitals and clinics. MTSOs can't demand more money to give employees a raise b/c they are held to a very tight contract. If we try to do that (and one of the reasons I quit running my own business), someone undercuts our prices by going offshore.

Things are seldom black and white.
Tell it to management collecting their nice fat paychecks - MTSOs CAN sacrifice some too
[ In Reply To ..]
Why is it only the MTs who have to suck it up and sacrifice?

Perhaps they are afraid of a mass exodus with the cost of health care? - nm

Just figure it out: If we went on Unemployment Insurnce (most states will pay at least 1/2 your average salary accrued over past year) - which is about what VR pays now. It comes out to about the same, and it's a no-brainer deciding between the two: Sit home and wait for weekly check OR sit on here at 1/2 cut in pay, doing 14-16 hours of work daily to try to get in 8 hours' worth of lines.

Health insurance? They cut our pay in half, but they expect us to pay higher $ for health insurance (LOL).

Well, ever hear of MEDICAID for the UNEMPLOYED? We would all definitely qualify - at $0.00 out-of-pocket to pay for deductible.

We all know we're getting a royal screwing, but those whose salary we are paying & who also tell us we're lucky to have a job -- they know that, for the time being only, that they have us over a barrel, given the present economy.

But, it is THEY who are lucky that we MTs have our jobs, right? We won't always need them, and eventually we'll be able to move on ... but they certainly need us to (be lucky enough -sic) to have a job. Or, where would THEIR jobs be?

I believe that the BIGGEST mistakes these MTSOs, suits, etc., ever made is underestimating their MTs.
Obviously you've never quit a job? You'd know that you don't get sm - Not a Webmedx MT
[ In Reply To ..]
unemployment benefits if you quit, only if you are laid off or fired without good cause.
You can get unemployment if you quit because there's - not enough work
[ In Reply To ..]
It's what the labor board considers quitting with good cause. You can also "quit with good cause" because of things like harassment and discrimination. And in cases like this, yes, you certainly will receive unemployment.
So go already. nm - WHY KEEP CRYING??

if you haven't already. This plan sounds very similar to plans they have available there for the same or less money. Plus, if you change jobs, your insurance will go with you.

thanks so much!!! - :)

I appreciate you posting that! I have looked on that ehealthinsurance.com, but I checked the BBB on the that Coventry One and this one called Celtic (which are the only 2 I could afford) and they have been denying claims left and right. I didn't want to pay someone $570 a month and them deny claims. BUT AGAIN THANK YOU for posting the info on the insurance. That $300 something for the family is still cheaper than what I have been quoted. The plus is now I can have insurance!!! My kids are covered by the state of Georgia, but they don't cover the moms. I haven't seen a doctor in 4 years!

Expensive insurance & minimal PTO. Might as well be an IC - sm

These places that want you as an employee more want you as some kind of indentured servant or something. I mean seriously 8.5 cents a line constantly getting different physicians with poor sound quality trying to churn out 1200 lines per 8-hour shift so you can be eligible to get overpriced crappy insurance and a whopping 8 days PTO a year for vacation, holiday, and sick time all together.

Worse than ever. Looking for a new job. sm - webby

[ In Reply To ..]
I have been here a few years now. Every December we go through this. I cannot believe the deductible amounts. Essentially, for routine health care, I might as well not have any insurance because I don't meet the deductible anyway. This insurance is a joke, $15 generic or $50 BRAND NAME? Come on, most of us are killing ourselves trying to get work.

If you find someplace charging less, please let us all know! nm - Affordable Insurance is GONE

in MT, I can do much better in income and benefits than this good-for-nothing field.

I am tired of crying and wondering how I'm going to make it every month. I'm throwing in the towel. These people on here who are telling us to be grateful can have my job. No work, barely any PTO, crappy insurance and all the slavery you could want.

Not true... - Cathy

[ In Reply To ..]
It is not true that afforedable insurance is gone. That is what MTSOs would like you to think, but there are still decent insurance plans available in other fields. Thankfully my husband has just become eligible to get insurance through his employer and we just switched to his. We will be paying $85 a week for the family plan with only a $350 deductible (instead of $3000), lower copayments, lower minimum out of pocket, etc. There may not be cheaper insurance as an MT, but there definitely is elsewhere.

I'll take that $50 brand. One of my prescriptions alone is $189/month (with no generic equivalent available). My doc wanted me on two, but since the other was also $160 (again with no generic), I had to pick one so I chose the one I deemed most effective. I know it would be a different board, but this is why I'm left scratching my head by those who feel there is nothing that needs fixing in the healthcare industry.

And a lot of people don't have ANY insurance, so I look at these sm - Not a Wbmx MT

to pay the $244/month premium (employee) and all of the out-of-pocket expenses? I can sit and be grateful all you want me to be, but if I have multiple accounts, none of which have work on them, what would you like me to do?
I second that! - I have other bills besides ins!
[ In Reply To ..]
For me and 1 child, that's almost $500 a month for 2010 for BCBS alone! My paycheck keeps going down - must I pick between my utilities or my health? Or will I soon be working solely to pay my BCBS? I'm going to shop around for a better insurance deal - this policy gives us less and demands more money every year!
Take mine - Please!! - You can have it!
[ In Reply To ..]
It's the old "you should be grateful that you can work at home in your pajamas" mentality. That is how they keep the pay in this field depressed. People who buy into the mentality that we should accept second best and be happy with it.

You do all understand the MTSO controls this. They pick the plan and - IAMT

[ In Reply To ..]
the can decide on the amount for the MT contribution. Do you really think they are making less this year? The management surely could look around and find an affordable plan if they want with lower premiums and the same coverage because it is out there. I've said it before and I will keep saying it, MTSO is all about GREED and their profit. Few companies have any regard to the MTs any longer.

Who? - Hospital/HomeMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess what I wonder is WHO is using the insurance so much that BCBS has supposedly paid out 1.20 for every $1 in premiums?? I don't have insurance through WMX, but through my day job...it's HALF the price for better coverage.
People desperately working their whole window - because never any work
[ In Reply To ..]
12 hour days + constantly shrinking paycheck + constantly rising bills + the holidays + general stress + the usual health problems of MTs (carpal tunnel/back+neck problems/obesity due to never leaving the 'puter) = actually using one's insurance because this job is literally killing us! So to add insult to injury, punish us for getting ill and raise our rates to where we can't afford insurance at all!

Medquist Health Insurance Info?

Can anyone tell me about MedQuist's health insurance (for just me - I live in North Carolina)?  I am afraid there is a hysterectomy in my future and I am really wondering how high the deductibles are and how much they pay after you've met them.  I'd be eligible in August, I think.  So, someone ease my mind that it's better than the private policy I have right now where I pay $230 a month for a $3, 500 deductible with $3, 500 coinsurance and they pay 50% of sur ...

Health Insurance As An IC

I am considering becoming self employed (after a fashion) as an IC.  I have gone onto www.healthcare.gov and gone through the steps they advise when you want to take out private insurance.  Holy cow, the insurance plans offered varied in premium cost from $600 to $4000 per month for a family of 4, but the thing that got me was two items:  Maximum out of pocket for individual: 0$.  Annual deductible for individual: 0$.  Woohoo.  This just seems too good to be true.&n ...
