anyone have any knowledge of the Meditech platform - tired

Does anyone have any knowledge of the Meditech platform. I start with a new company soon and have no idea how it works. Would like to go into training with the learning curve in my favor...

Meditech is HORRIBLE - me

It is antiquated, not MT friendly, and very hard to get your lines. There are multiple screens to enter data. I'm not sure Stedman's spellchecker is compatible with it and its spellchecker is horrible. I can't remember how many pages the manual is. I can't walk you through how it works, you just have to learn by doing and reading and rereading the manual.

True, it's not very user friendly but I was able to make lines on Meditech.

The "header portion" is rather cumbersome but after you get used to it you should be able to fly right through it. Lot of people complain about entering the header information but after your learning curve it should be a breeze.

You definitely need a shortcut program with it. I am using PC Shorthand which works great.

Yea, their dictionary is not good. I believe Stedmans does work with it.

When I first started on Meditech I really, really hated it because I didn't have a shortcut program and of course if you have to straight type you are not going to make money.

Come to find out, you can type the whole report in your Word or whatever you use and then COPY and PASTE it into Meditech. After I found out about that things got even easier.

Shortcut "sometimes" works with Meditech. The company that I originally started Meditech with was the DOS based vesion and I would have a complete PE in for doctor and it would lock up. I have used SC for AGES and there have only been one or two platforms where I have had problems with it.

Also, as the other poster stated, the spellcheck program leaves a LOT to be desired

They seem to stick all the new employees on that horrible platform. Definitely NOT user friendly-- have to fill in a bunch of screens before you can even start typing, etc. I was told you cannot copy and paste and you have to purchase Shorthand as there is no expander with it. The dictators were horrible, the C-phone audio was horrible, and after about a week, I told them to stuff it.

No, have never worked for KS -- this was a another company where out of the blue the account went to MQ and several of us were let go with no notice.

KS, if this is KS, says you cannot copy and paste from Word because people don't do it correctly and they copy the previous report into the current report. Before it was a major no no, now it is a major HIPAA violation and is grounds for termination. You CAN do it, but there are consequences if you screw up.

It is still a horrible platform. You can get used to it, but you may be bald, stressed, and dehydrated from the tears by the time you "get used to it." I tried for 4 months and just couldn't do it any more. Having to use a C-phone on top of Meditech is really bad.

I have never asked and am very careful to make sure that I put the right report on the right patient. Be careful with that and you will never have a problem. It is easy to get lines after a few days. Make sure to get PCShorthand. It makes a huge difference. I transcribe 20,000 lines a pay period in 8 hours a day, but Shorthand is the reason.

Meditech is not the greatest, but far from the worst. I used it for nearly 10 years bfor they upgraded to latest version. Neither of them are great but again, not the worst. As far as spellchecker, here is what you do...Use Word on your PC to type the reports and whatever shorthand program you use, spellchecker, and then copy and paste into Meditech "Word" whichever they are using. I work for a company where we do that because Meditech's "WORD" is so slow, so get comfortable with copy and paste and moving between windows using alt-Tab and you will do fine. It isn't that bad.

I work for a small hospital and we have just recently started typing our H&P's into EMR. The problem with EMR is that it uses Word (not Microsoft Word) and we have no auto correct and no medical spell checker. We were told that we could not get either installed in the EMR. Anyone hate meditech as much as I do? It is impossible to type more than 50 reports unless you work more than 8 hours a day. They dont care if you work more than 8 hours a day, (cause there is tons of work) but don't put that on your time card. You have to work on your days off cause you don't make enough money unless you do. If you only get paid 1 dollar per report you can go on disability for the rest of your life and pretty much live on 900 a month anyway. meditech has so ...
