Wmx - What's the difference between Native and New? - feeling senile

Posted: Oct 04, 2011

Hadn't used New version all that long (months?) before we switched back to Native.  I honestly do not see a difference between the two besides native having an ugly font.  Clue me in as to why the switch back, and what's the difference?  Thanks.

Why/Difference - Webber

New version was based in M-Modal. The original plan was to transfer all accounts over to the new editor, until Nuance acquired Webmedx. M-Modal (I believe now owned by Medquist) is a major competitor of Nuance. They did not want to keep paying their competitor.

Native version uses Nuance's Dragon speech engine. The speech recognition isn't quite as accurate and there aren't as many bells and whistles (autonumbering for lists, skipping over dead air space, double clicking to get to point audio for that word, etc.). I think Native is faster, though, because you aren't bogged down with inserting the headings like in M-Modal and it seems to run generally faster (faster upload and download of reports, not sluggish when editing). Nuance is supposed to be working on replacing Dragon with eScription in the near future so we will be using that as our VR engine. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

Native using Dragon and then change again? - AnnieOakley

So let me get this straight. We cannot be as productive on this Native thing, but about the time its engine learns, we move on to something else? Meaning we have to work 10 to 12 hours to make what we used to in 8? But we can use our vacation time in case we "need it" to make up for the lost income, so we never get a vacation, and then they are going to take away our holiday pay from what I understand. I do not know this to be true.

Change - Webber

I believe the plan is to change to eScription (the best VR engine out there from what I have heard on this site). This will be a good change. It may require some time for eScription to learn, but I think it will be well worth it as it is a superior VR engine compared to Dragon. I think they are working on integrating this into our current platform so that would not change, just the engine.

I honestly prefer native to new version and can be much more productive with it.

Personally I have no vacation time left as I had to use almost all of it for times when there was no work over the past year. I have heard that Nuance doesn't pay holiday pay also and only pays a 25% differential if you actually work on the holiday. I'm not at all happy about being sold out to Nuance but have found that this is the place where I can be most productive, and production is the name of the game in this business.

Big LOL on that ugly font remark. I always thought it was ugly too (nm) - anMT

Thoughts on this?  What do we do when they quit paying the hourly stipend to make up for the transition?  There is no way we can be as efficient or produce as much on this platform, so this is, in effect, another pay cut, or is it just me?  Anybody else spitting out the lines on this disaster?  ...

Since switching to Native EP, my lines per hour have been running around 130. One day I decided to really apply myself to see how much better I could do, so I focused, did not give in to distractions, was fortunate to get decent dictators, had about 50/50 ISR and straight, and still only achieved barely 160. I attributed my usual low lph to an account with horrible dictators/audio, but that was not much of a factor this day. I am a seasoned MT, fairly proficient with ShortHand, but still strugg ...

ESL Speaking In English And Native Language???

I have never been able to run much above 150 lph average doing VR for my company.  It is so horrid, I can usually type it quicker.  I cannot even imagine how anybody is doing 400-500 lph average.  Just pulling in the jobs, listening through patient information, filling in date of service, consulting physicians and such, fixing the ASR dictation and uploading the job -- there is no way on this earth it will ever happen at my company.  I need a new job apparently.  ...

Seeing No Difference With Upgrade To 6.1
Sep 27, 2010

Is it just me or my region but the only difference I have seen in the upgrade is the doctor's data base and being able to number with the numbering function.  I have yet to see the headings column come up on the left with a job or have the option on the top that says "type headings as dictated."  When I try to use the alt-H for inserting headers it it is still coming up in the middle of the screen and it is not showing, "client preferred headings."  Pretty much anything that ...

If you do nothing to change a bad situation, the bad situation will never change.  But I guess some, like my DS, thrive on the drama of poor me, I can do nothing to help myself, please feel sorry for me.  And others, like me, hate drama, hate being treated bad, and refuse to stand by and let it continue.  I will not let a MTSO rule my life to the point of draining my bank account, monopolizing my time and stomping on my self esteem.
