SoftScript: Rewind too long? - Jill

I'm strugging through some horrible dictators and having to use the foot pedal non-stop to relisten. The backspace goes back at least a full sentence and sometimes half a paragraph and trying to go back, forward, back, forward trying to find that one word I have to re-listen to is taking a LONG time. Is it just me or has anyone else had this problem with SoftScript audio?

Are you using the old platform or Glyph? I've had audio issues on Glyph with it cutting out if I tap the foot pedal more than 1 time in a row to back it up a little bit and sometimes it plays at regular speed, but when a job on a particular account comes up, it speeds way up and I have adjust the 'detect VOX' settings.

I don't think I've had the problem you are having, just going way back when I only need to re-listen to one word and spending up to a minute just trying to find it. The auto back space adjustment doesn't work due to the pause-factor. These dictators are leaving so many pauses that the auto backspace I like set at 1 only goes back part way through the pause and it's very hard to control. It's really cutting into my time. I HOPE they have a new platform soon.

You may need to have Tech reinstall the player. I think it gets a hiccup once in a while.

I usually work with mp3s, and now this Dictaphone is driving me crazy. I have no manual. Why does it not rewind all the way? When I want to review a part of the tape, I push rewind and it will only rewind a little and then beep at me! There is an 'erase' button. Does that have anything to do with anything? This dictaphone is really old, I think. Pitney Bowes 3170. If anybody has any ideas I would be much obliged!! ...

Please help! I got another computer, downloaded express scribe and did the wizard. When I step on rewind, it rewinds, then immediately starts from the beginning again.It does not actually rewinds to the beginning until I release my foot from the foot pedal. It has to be in options somewhere but I cannot find it! Please help! ...

Anyone out there notice this? That it takes twice as long to do an op note anymore in ASR what with all the cutting, pasting, standards, going back to check whether or not to delete headings, blah, blah. It used to be a cinch to simply bring in one of my standards and make the appropriate changes according to the audio, but now with ASR, it takes twice as long. I feel like I'm running in place and going nowhere just to make ASR learn something. It's such a waste ...

I quit today. No 2 weeks notice. No anything. "You won't ever be able to work for Nuance again if you do this." That's like saying, "You won't ever be able to hit yourself in the face with a hammer again if you throw it away." There is NO WAY an MT can survive not knowing what they will make week to week. Who can budget like that? They can stick their "compensation plan" up their yin yang. I am free! :) ...

I was so happy that he actually cut out his sneeze that I left him a digital "sticky note" saying Bless you! I hope that made him smile ...

After over a year without an MT job I have decided to turn my degree into a Nursing assistant degree. Not to say the MT jobs aren't out there it is just tough for newer MT's to land them with all of the competition. Employers have the right and the demand to be very picky with everyone vying for the position.
