Patient First line counts - needtoknow

Posted: May 07, 2015

Can anyone who is a current employee of Patient First tell me how many lines they average in a day's time?  I've read what the minimum is, and I've read that you have basically a 23-hour window to get the lines in for the day, but do any of you actually type more than the minimum on a consistent basis?  I've read that people "never run out of work," but is that because you hit 1500 and stop?  I've read on this board that the lines are calculated at 50 characters with spaces included, but  I'm wondering if there is enough work volume to enable getting higher line counts than the minimum once you're trained and up and running.  Thanks in advance for replying.

Most everyone, after getting up to speed usually can make production in 5 hours. Some stay on and type more lines and some don't.

There is so much work they are always asking us to please work 8 hours and type more. I usually give a couple of hours extra 2-3 times a week but it just depends if I can. Once you make production its your choice. If you want to continue working you can. But you cannot go over 8 hours (based on keystrokes) unless we are on OT. It is very possible to type over 2,000 lines per day. If I work the extra hours I can get 2,000 lines or pretty close to it on consistent basis. I have lots of normals for the doctors and they help out tremendously to boose line count.

I have been there 4 years and never once have I run out of work.

Thanks - needtoknow

Thanks; that's very helpful info.

I currently work w/PF and I average 1700-1800 lines. I have typed 2000 lines some days if I want to make extra. Back in 2012, when I first started, was the only time we received an email saying as the work was low we could take off that day if we wanted. Otherwise, we ALWAYS have work. In fact, in order to keep up with turnaround, only one MT can be off a day now, and we are even busier right after Xmas during flu season, when we are usually put on mandatory overtime for 2-3 months. Hope this helps.

That does help, and thanks.

I guess what I'm really wondering is whether I can consistently get 2000 lines per day if I work an 8-hour day (either all at once or split) once I'm fully trained and have my auto corrects set up. It's nice to know the work volume is there. That's half the battle. Getting accustomed to the report style and the dictators will come with time, as with all accounts, although I've read that the report style is vastly different than elsewhere.

I definitely think, after you get acclimated, you would be able to get 2000 lines in an 8 hour shift. I do 1700-1800 in 5-6 hours give or take. I have a lot of autokeys and macros, which I think is what has helped me.

If you are that busy, has the hiring freeze been lifted?

Hiring Freeze - P-Effer

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not sure if there is a hiring freeze. A while back they raised the line count per day from 1400 to 1500 and made it so only one MT can be off a day, then that way it was like "hiring 8 new MTs." With this, we are able to stay more caught up, however, it's also not flu season.

line counts/hiring freeze - pf employee

It is really easy to get your 1500 lines/day, so having time for the extra 500 is not a problem. Normally I start at around 6:00 am and finish up by 9 or 10, which means I have plenty of time to type extra if I want. However, I normally do the 1500 and just take off for the day. Mainly the reason is I find clinic work sort of boring and redundant. On top of that, you work on one center and get the same 2-3 doctors on each date of service over and over and over. I find it really hard to stick with it beyond the 1500. Luckily I don't really need the extra $$. So, to sum it up, there is more than enough time and work to get extra lines, and if you need the money, that might be motivating enough to stick with it and do it, but you may also find it hard to stay motivated to do so.

As far as the hiring freeze, I have never heard those words specifically. Sometimes we get so many resumes (literally hundreds), I think maybe they just don't need to encourage more applicants. We open new centers pretty frequently, so we hire at regular intervals. On my team, we can have more than 1 person off at a time, at least when we are fairly caught up. Also, if something urgent came up, there wouldn't be a problem if you needed to be off. Just don't want anyone getting the idea that asking for time off is a major issue.

OSI Line Counts..
Aug 05, 2010

I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what OSI cuts out of their line counts?  Seeing as they use a remote website for line counts, it is pretty obvious they cut corners with what MTs get paid on.  I was just wondering WHAT are the cutting?  Do they only pay 1 space?  Do they not pay if you copy and paste? Do they only pay on a % per page - meaning if you have little on 1 page you aren't going to get any credit for those lines, etc?  Just curio ...

Line Counts And ESL

What Could Be The Reason For Odd Line Counts?
May 12, 2010

According to the Escript, I'm doing an average of 300 lph on VR but usually at the end of 8 hours, I don't top 1100 liines most days.  On Dictaphone's ExSpeech, i used to consistently do 1800-2400 a day on a combination. I have noticed with EScript that 1 day a week, my lines will hit 1200-1300, and I even hit 1500 one  day, yet the lph were still 300.  It doesn't make sense. No, I do not take breaks.  Half the time I don't stop ...

Line Counts And Templates
Jun 22, 2010

Hi - I have a question regarding counting templates. I have a new doc who wants me to only count what he dictates, and not the templated review of systems, past medical history, social history, etc. which is all unchanged (unless he says to change it). Do you cut and paste your work into a "count" file to get the total, or do you tell the doctor that it has to be included in the count. And what about the times he does make changes to the "templated items". I welcome any suggestions. ...

extreme trouble being consistent in their line counts? What Line Counts Standards Are Out There
Jul 29, 2010

I am just curious as to what line count standards are out there. What are your line count requirements for the day and how much do you use your QA for things like missing encounters, unable to ID patients, incorrect work types?
