OTI lines per day/hour - sm - Lucy

Posted: Feb 10, 2011

What is reasonable on the new account for which they are hiring?  Any feedback is appreciated.

OTI - see message - on new account

We're all ICs so, to my knowledge, there isn't really a minimum line per hour rate (anyone else knowing any differently please correct me) so much as there are the required lines (part time vs full time) per pay period. I'm on board part-time and so far no problem whatsoever meeting the daily lines I committed to and hope to double those on the weekend when I have more available time.

HTH.

You committed to "daily lines?" - nm

OTI daily lines committment - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, OTI has you to fill out a schedule in Bayscribe each month. You have to enter the number of lines that you plan to do on each of the days of that month. This is your daily line committment.
That's not a "commitment," that's an estimate. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
They don't hold you to that. It's mainly so they know if you're going to be working that day.
Yes, they do hold you to your line committment - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
They send emails out about how the MTs need to actually do the number of lines that they have committed to on the schedule. You can put down 100 lines or 1000 lines on any particular day, but you are expected to do whatever lines you have put down. I'm not making this up, just read the emails that they send out.

It's not just so they will know you'll be working that day. Plus, you have to do the whole month in advance, so if you want to take any time off, you'll have to plan way ahead.
They DO NOT!! I have worked for OTI for over 10 years - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
and have NEVER EVER gotten an e-mail like that. I read every e-mail they send. I don't know how long you have been working there, but ..........
AND I have changed my estimated daily count in the middle of the month - if I needed to.

I've been at OTI a long time - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
But, I'm not going to tell you exactly how long because I suspect you are management.

At OTI, you have to fill out your monthly schedule and you are supposed to be transcribing the number of daily lines that you enter on your schedule each month. I have copies of the emails where they have said exactly that.
I am NOT management and never have been management - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You may have copies of emails that say that............I personally have never seen an e-mail that says that. I don't believe they can legally require that of an IC.

The IRS' definition of an IC is "A person hired to do work for another but who is not an employee or agent of that person. Control is subjected to the end result and not as to how the work is performed as opposed to an employee who receives direction on what, when and, to some degree, how to do a job."

They can try to tell me how and when to do my job, but if they do, I'll see them in court.

And the calendar to fill in how much work you'll do daily CAN be altered by you during the month........ANYTIME.
Then please stop spreading misinformation - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You say you haven't seen those emails about keeping your line committments, but there have actually been quite a lot of them. Oracle DOES require their MTs to fill out a monthly schedule, with a new one each and every month, and they do expect the MT to actually DO the number of daily lines that they have put down on their schedule.

As far as the IRS's definition of IC goes, OTI is not telling you when to do your work. It is YOU who are deciding what number of lines you will do on each day that month and it is YOU who are deciding exactly WHEN you will be getting those lines done, could be morning, noon or night.

But, they DO expect you to enter your number of daily lines onto the monthly schedule and they DO expect you to do the lines that you commit to.

This is not a secret and it's something that they have required all along. I guess that you just haven't been reading their emails.

And I apologize for suspecting that you are management if you truly are not, but your writing style is EXTREMELY similar to one particular person there and that's what raised the red flags with me.
I hope you aren't comparing my writing style to - who I think you are.....
[ In Reply To ..]
If you are I am highly insulted. However, I do know and have not denied the fact that OTI requires we fill out the monthly schedule. There have been many a day I haven't completed all the lines I put on that schedule and NOTHING has ever been said to me. I DO read ALL the e-mails they send to me (another insult thrown at me) and I have never seen one admonishing me for not completing all the lines I had "predicted" I would do. How can I if I run out of work?

And I'm NOT spreading misinformation (third insult).I'm telling you my experience.
Yes, Yes and Yes!! - RightWithYou

I am SO with you! I have been with OTI for YEARS and have NEVER been contacted concerning my number of lines even though I have not completed all the lines in many a moon, like you, due to lack of work, so those that say otherwise simply do not know. It is true, there are any of us out here in the same boat.

I dont believe its the IC violation you might be thinking - See message

We are free to set our own lines per day, per pay period, etc., but Bayscribe is set up with a daily calendar where you list how many lines you intend to do on any given day. At OTI, I've seen no sign that they're infringing on basic IC guidelines at all. The only request made to me was if I had an hour on Saturday or Sunday to work, that would be great. No insisting, no "assigning" or anything of the sort. We're free to pick and choose when we work and our hours, daily lines, etc., as long as it meets the minimum PT or FT requirements. Honestly, besides MDI, the easiest place I've ever worked for.
OTI weekend hours - are required
[ In Reply To ..]
Or at least they were. OTI has out sent a number of emails to all MTs in the past, stating that each and every MT is expected to put in "at least 4 hours" over the weekends.

But since you said they told you "if" you had time over the weekend to work, I wonder if they have decided to change this policy of requiring 4 hours over the weekends.
The paperwork I just sent in said 2 hours over the weekend are required. sm - MountainMT
[ In Reply To ..]
That hardly seems an excessive demand, and I have no problem with it. And I was told that you can send in the schedule but you are not yelled at if you do not keep it, but rather it is more of a guideline as to when you think you want to work.
I havent been with OTI very long but (sm) - OTIer

I must admit I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. A few difficult dictators, nothing out of the ordinary, the people I've dealt with have all been very friendly and very professional, everything they have said from the startup of the account, etc., has been accurate, and I love the way we're left alone to work without a constant barrage of emails or IMs.

If all of this holds true and stays in place, I can see myself staying with this place for a VERY long time.
Same here OTIer! No barrage of harrassing emails, just left alone to do the work! Love it so far!! - Relieved

QA Lines Per Hour/day
Nov 17, 2011

I have been promoted to QA and was wondering what the average line count you that do QA get in an hour or a day. I have been doing this for a few months and I am making about the same amount of money per month as I was with MT. Am I being too slow? I am afraid to speed it up for fear of missing something. My workload is about 50% fill in blanks and scan and 50% listen and read along full audit stuff. Right now I am averaging 400 to 450 lines an hour or 3200 to 3600 a day. I was hoping to make a ...

VR/ASR Lines Per Hour

400 Lines An Hour?
Jul 31, 2014

I'm just thinking back to that whoever person that posted on here about a week or two ago that says he or she easily makes $16 to $18 an hour at Nuance and has plenty of work and always gets paid on time.  A lot of replies said the poster is probably a fake and is someone from Nuance management or human resources who is desperate for people to hop on board.  I posted that it would be impossible to make $16 as an MT at Nuance, for you'd have to be nearly bionic in terms of yo ...

To Get Decent Lines An Hour
Aug 04, 2010

Hi, I seem to struggle with line counts (a few years into MTing).  Some accounts I am fine with and some very slow.  Because of the nature of the work (and working from home), I have no way to gauge if the faster accounts are just abnormally easy or the slower accounts are abnormally hard.  - Do you all (who have decent line counts) feel like you are moving like a mad person or just moving along at a decent pace? Any ideas on how to tell what my issues are or what the scoop is?&n ...

HOW MANY ASR LINES CAN YOU EDIT PER HOUR?
Jan 28, 2012

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but how many lines on average would you say you can edit with ASR per hour?  I think the most I have ever been able to do was around 250 myself.  I just wondered how I measured up with other MTs with the ASR jobs.  I remember a couple of years ago not long after MQ started up with ASR getting a company email describing an MT (no name was given) who could edit over 600 lines per hour and over 400 with straight transcription.   ...

When Did The Minimum LPH (Lines Per Hour) Go To 186?
Jan 29, 2013

OK...someone enlighten me please.  When did the minimum LPH go to 186?  Did I miss something in any of the various webinars?   Work faster, produce more lines, work more efficiently, make less errors, correct the MDs errors, work outside your shift regularly if you run out of work on regular shifts, help your fellow employees -- all for less pay.
