Lines per hour and crappy platform. sm - cat

Posted: Mar 16, 2014

I just want to know how to keep lines per hour up if they can't even fix flaws in their software.  This is like expecting a car mechanic to fix a car without the proper tools, like a surgeon without his instruments, like a pianist without a piano, like a photographer without film, like a painter without paint, like a gas station attendant without a pump, like a seamstress without a needle, like a mailman without mail, like a skydiver without a parachute, like a fisherman without a rod, like a farmer without seeds, like a sailor without a ship, like a weightlifter without weights, like a lab tech without a syringe..

Okay i'm losing it. this place is driving me crazy, and i don't know if I can take it anymore.

This made me smile because it sounds like it could be a "Transcription Woes" song. Sorry you are having such problems.

We cannot make production with so many obstacles (sm) - Rose

I've been letting companies know that I can edit between 50-200 LPH IF:
* No need to research demographics.
* Dictator knows how to dictate.
* Dictator knows how to use pause.
* Sound quality is excellent.
* Auto-backspace can be adjusted.
* No drugs or dosages mispronounced.
* No need to research which doc to cc.
* No need to stop and email supervisor.
* No need to fill out QA form.
* Dictator speaks English well.
* No need to reformat every report.

They also need to know that we cannot edit in half the time it takes to transcribe. They must have editing confused with proofreading to expect that. We don't just proofread!

Excellent post, Rose. I'd like to add to it. - sm

How can we make production when we're working on 4+ accounts per day, often going from to the other with every other job and all having such vast differences in account specifics?

On another note, I wonder if the trained troll ever passes on our posts to "her" superiors??

Another addition to this excellent list - Make sure the VR works properly

If I have to correct more than 10% of the words, I cannot meet the LPH requirement. Often it seems like almost half of the words and numbers have to be corrected. There is no reason why words, phrases, sentences that are clearly dictated should be left out. No reason why dates can't be properly formatted. No reason why common, clearly dictated words of any type should be hilariously incorrectly transcribed.

With respect to having to stop and email the supervisor, that is so selfish of them to ask us to do this. They can clearly see in the system that you have: (1) rejected a job that is a work type we don't do; (2) that you have typed a stat job; (3) that you have put an note in QA, so why on earth do we have to spoon feed them? Laziness and greed, that's why. They don't want to have to do any extra steps themselves, so they make us do it, which is particularly unfair, given that team leads get paid by the hour, and we certainly don't.

It is what tyrants have done to their slaves - through the ages

Like what the Egyptians did to their slaves, the Israelites, thousands of years ago, regarding their brickmaking. The Egyptians cut down on the allotment of straw, which was needed to make bricks, but demanded the Israelites increase their production--mission impossible--thus, beatings increased. The beatings will stop when the moral improves, so grin and bear it, I guess! (Or start praying for help!)

Employers and employees - nn

I've worked as both employer and employee. Years ago my husband and I owned a prosperous business that provided labor (100+ workers) to a specific industry. Since our employees worked on a piece rate basis, we always made sure each employee earned well in excess of the minimum wage, not only to be in compliance with the law but to ensure employee satisfaction. We valued our employees and treated them accordingly because after all, without them, we had no business. As a consequence, our workers provided outstanding service, not to mention we had very low turnover and next to no workman's compensation claims. It was good for us and good for them. Something of a no-brainer. Some employers apparently don't "get" the equation.

You are so right! If only we were treated with respect... - sm

...and they gave us back the pay they stole from us, all would be fine and we would be happy once again. Thank you for such an eloquent description of a happy work environment.

VR - How Many Lines Per Hour Do You Do? (sm)

With decades of experience as an MT, I'm just now getting into VR. I'd like to know, if you would please care to share, just how many lines per hour you are able to get with VR. I know this varies from person to person and platform to platform, but please, help me out with this! I'm terrified I'm going to go broke doing this! Thanks in advance. ...

VR - Lines Per Hour

I don't have much to compare to, as this is the only company I've worked for as an editor. I wanted to get an idea of the different platforms we each use and our lines per hour. Talking only about editing and not straight typing, what do you average lph and what platform do you use?  Thank you!  ...

QA Pay Other Than By Lines Or By Hour

QA Lines Per Hour/day
Nov 17, 2011

I have been promoted to QA and was wondering what the average line count you that do QA get in an hour or a day. I have been doing this for a few months and I am making about the same amount of money per month as I was with MT. Am I being too slow? I am afraid to speed it up for fear of missing something. My workload is about 50% fill in blanks and scan and 50% listen and read along full audit stuff. Right now I am averaging 400 to 450 lines an hour or 3200 to 3600 a day. I was hoping to make a ...

VR/ASR Lines Per Hour
Jan 04, 2012

My accounts were recently switched from typing to mostly ASR...I'm really struggling here!  It seems like I take longer to edit jobs than to type them out. (Of course, it would help if the ASR program was more accurate). Why is this so hard for me?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.     ...

400 Lines An Hour?
Jul 31, 2014

I'm just thinking back to that whoever person that posted on here about a week or two ago that says he or she easily makes $16 to $18 an hour at Nuance and has plenty of work and always gets paid on time.  A lot of replies said the poster is probably a fake and is someone from Nuance management or human resources who is desperate for people to hop on board.  I posted that it would be impossible to make $16 as an MT at Nuance, for you'd have to be nearly bionic in terms of yo ...

To Get Decent Lines An Hour
Aug 04, 2010

Hi, I seem to struggle with line counts (a few years into MTing).  Some accounts I am fine with and some very slow.  Because of the nature of the work (and working from home), I have no way to gauge if the faster accounts are just abnormally easy or the slower accounts are abnormally hard.  - Do you all (who have decent line counts) feel like you are moving like a mad person or just moving along at a decent pace? Any ideas on how to tell what my issues are or what the scoop is?&n ...

HOW MANY ASR LINES CAN YOU EDIT PER HOUR?
Jan 28, 2012

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but how many lines on average would you say you can edit with ASR per hour?  I think the most I have ever been able to do was around 250 myself.  I just wondered how I measured up with other MTs with the ASR jobs.  I remember a couple of years ago not long after MQ started up with ASR getting a company email describing an MT (no name was given) who could edit over 600 lines per hour and over 400 with straight transcription.   ...

Jan 29, 2013

OK...someone enlighten me please.  When did the minimum LPH go to 186?  Did I miss something in any of the various webinars?   Work faster, produce more lines, work more efficiently, make less errors, correct the MDs errors, work outside your shift regularly if you run out of work on regular shifts, help your fellow employees -- all for less pay.
