Most Stupid Transcriptionist In The World - caninemom3

Posted: Apr 02, 2012

Hello everybody

I just got news that I failed my test with Precyse Solutions. I always seem to fail tests yet I have been a transcriptionist for nearly 20 years. I did have to leave two blanks because I just could not make out what one of the dicators was saying. I think I am just too stupid or something to pass a test anymore. I really need to leave my current company because it is afternoons plus they switched my schedule on me as far as the days I have to work. They told me at the time that it was a "temporary" change yet after a little while of time had passed and I asked again, they said they did not know when I could go back to my original agreed upon schedule. I feel like a total loser at this point. I don't understand how I failed test from Precyse unless it was because of those two blanks. Thank you everyone for letting me vent a little. I am going to go and try to regroup a little. Take care.

You'll find something MUCH better than there, trust me on this. It is all I can say at this time, but don't get too down on yourself.

I too failed a test after 22 years of transcription..most of the questions however were about using shortcuts on the PC rather than medical terms. Can't understand why.

I don't know why they consider them "shortcuts". - They take longer than just typing it! nm

If you've been an MT for 20 years or so, as I have, I truly believe that is a large part of the problem. I think most of these companies really DON'T want American MT's, yet by law I don't think they can exclude them from the hiring process. Also, MTs with a higher level of experience and years on the job know too much. (And I'm not talking about medical words, I'm talking about our knowledge of what constitutes fair pay, fair working conditions, etc.) So. How to go about excluding us from the hiring process, without getting sued for discrimination? EASY. Just test them, and fail them. They know that we have no way to prove whether or not our failing score was legitimate, or just a number they pulled out of a hat.

As another poster above said, don't feel bad, instead - feel lucky that you aren't stuck working for a bunch of unscrupulous crooks like Precyse, and all the other bloated McTranscription companies out there.

This is SO true, every word of it! n/m - Kiki

Unless a company actually shows you the results and explains the criteria for the grading of the test results, don't beat yourself up. Sometimes a company is very precise in their instructions and other times it's hard to determine what they are looking for on the test. Style should never be a factor, just terminology. And they often use voice files that are horrible.

Keep looking and hopefully you will find a company that is a good fit for you. I know, that's getting harder all the time. I'm starting to think it's close to impossible, but I keep hoping there's a better place to work because although I say I no longer like this work, I really do, and it's what I know.

Best wishes to you!

Some of these tests must be designed by clueless clerical/administrative/management people with minimal actual knowledge about medical transcription. With 30+ years' experience and two ''open'' standing invitations to consider returning to former employers (major MTSOs), I failed a test that included some very ridiculous questions---One about the ''correct'' format for review of systems, paragraph or list format (which is subjective and should be based on acct specs) and another about the difference between homocystine and homocysteine--something few physicians would know offhand. So consider the morons devising these tests and don't be too hard on yourself.

After I read the OP, my first thought was - too much experience SM

[ In Reply To ..]
I have heard this talked about before on this forum, and I do believe it is legitimate. What is the answer? Lie on your application or in an interview? That goes against everything I thought I knew about work life, which is someone with more experience should be an asset, not a liability. This industry is so screwed up now. The company I worked for over 10 years was bought about 2 years ago. When I got that previous job, I didn't even have to test, I got the job simply with a phone call. My experience got me the job.

BTW, what is the difference between homocystine and homocysteine? Always like to learn.

Test taking - just a thought

I know that my previous employer "was old-fashioned." I have had co-workers who have failed tests, too. Perhaps you need to read a BOS from cover to cover and make sure you are up on the normal stuff. Styles change. One test I took said to correct grammar, another test said to type verbatim. Very different results.

No you're not - here's a story - anonMT

I once tested for a company that a friend worked for. They were begging for help. I supposedly did not pass the test. I did keep a copy of the test in a file.

A couple of years later, I applied again to the same company. They used the identical test. Oh, this time, I did get hired. I compared the two finished exams and they were 99.9% identical, as they were transcribed verbatim.

I was so tempted to mention this odd event, but I didn't bother. It turned out to be a company with a lot of strange things going on all the time anyway.

sometimes I think that's just their (demented) way of - avoiding having to say they hired another. NM

First of all, you are not stupid. Some people just cannot take tests. Count your luck stars you didn't make it there. You'll find something. I don't know who you work for, unfortunaely, you'll have to find something else and YOU WILL. Don't beat yourself up. Good luck!

Can This Stupid Company Find Anything More Stupid To Do?

Ugh, I never encountered this before.  I have some different accounts.  There is this INANE gender check which kicks out he or she if it is not the patient's gender.  OMG, the dumas people who have nothing better to do and set this up apparently do not realize males may have mothers or girl friends and vice versa.  I'm so sick of wasting my time fixing the worthless things they have set up to make things "easier" for us.  We'd be better off if maybe t ...

DO NOT Be Dumb Like Me.........stupid, Stupid, stupid
Jan 20, 2011

I had it all. The job I wanted through SOAP Transcription. One little thing got me fired and I don't want it to happen to any of you regardless if you're new or a veteran of the field. Most of us at home workers, with whomever we work for, have rules about the internet. That being said, I was towards the end of my shift last Sunday, and wanted to check the score of a football game. I figured it was only once, what could it hurt. Well, now I know, all too painfully.  I wasn't ...

New World
Dec 03, 2009

Morning all. Knew it was coming, just didn't know when.  CTL gone Monday and this a.m., a totally new CCM.  Haven't been told anything by anyone at MQ about any of this.  Just happened.  It's OK.  The last CCM was pretty bad, never answered E.mails or phone calls.  The CTL was great though and that is probably why she is gone.  MQ can't stand to have anyone good for morale and/or MTs work for them.  Look out everyone, its Christmas ...

Yesterday (Sun) was a nightmare. I was struggling to get jobs all day long (see posts below). There were very few last night even, when there are normally an abundance of jobs. I think whatever upgrade they did yesterday morning just sucked more accounts to our ILPs. ...

There Is Justice In This World!
Jul 11, 2010

After I was terminated by Transcend, I thought my world had come crashing down on me, and I picked up the pieces and started to look for work.  In the meantime, I filed for unemployment, never thinking I had 1 chance to gain that at all.  My judgment came in from the review board in the State of FL., and they determined that there was no fault found on my part when the company terminated me, and that I had carried out my duties, as described in my job description, with no intent on my ...

I'm lucky enough to have one of the few remaining MT/E jobs that is NOT an MTSO (albeit not for much longer). I've been reading here for quite a while, including the General, M*Modal, and Nuance boards. It seems as if nearly everyone, everywhere has seen their work dry up in the extreme.  At Nuance and M*Modal, of course, they reckon it's because it's all going to India, and all things considered, they're undoubtedly right, at least in part. However, it doesn ...

Your Little Corner Of The World

So I just moved into a larger place which allows for my very own dedicated office.  Not huge, about 14 x 14, yet I find myself totally clueless on ideas for how to decorate it.  I'll be the only one using it so I pretty much have free rein over how to fix it up. This is something that has been bothering me. I feel stupid asking, but since it's rather important, I ask.   cpl   Currently, I am making 0.083 per line typed. I see people stating things like 7 cpl or .8 cpl. Does that equate to 7.0 per lined type (seems crazy!) and 0.8 per line typed? I'm currently being offered incentive pay for working on my days off. They stated 0.5 cpl extra per line typed. Since I have to enter my own pay and production, I'm just confused a ...

Hopefully Good News For The MT World!!
