Interesting piece of mail - Kazaam

Posted: Jul 20, 2010

I got a pretty little glossy page in snail mail yesterday from Nuance/Focus Informatics describing how wonderful their company is and all the openings they have for MTs.  I racked my brain trying to figure out how they would even know that I am an MT.  Then I remembered how the Q signed us up for Benchmark KB and that included my 'free' membership to AHDI.  So apparently AHDI sold my info?  What the heck?

I got one too. No sweat - right to the garbage! nm - Sam

AHDI, which sold millions of American MTs downriver, - would have no problem selling our info., too. Scum

AHDI sold ALL MTs out when they (in their incarnation as AAMT) got in bed with MQ. Why would they not sell out your information? They sold your/our chance at a decent career. Don't trust these folks. They are only in it for the dough. AHDI's motto should be SHOW ME THE MONEY!

That must have been part of the settlement in the class action (sm) - starzzz

lawsuit from MQ, LOL! That's why I ran my offer through the shredder. AAMT (or AHDI--whatever) has not looked out for the best interest of transcriptionists in many years.

What I find interesting about that is Nuance/Focus is going... - ndmt

to be the one to break and buy out Medquist. Medquist has a strategy of acquiring every transcription company they can get their hands on, but Nuance is acquiring (or creating) every transcription platform they can get their hands on. They now own Dictaphone Enterprise Express, eScription, and PowerScribe (among others). To me, the company that has platforms in the most hospitals will be the company that survives the longest - not to mention, there is more money on the IT side of transcripton than the MT side. They are going to have substantial capital to buy when Medquist goes down.

I wonder if Medquist realizes they are helping their biggest competition?

Face It. Our Piece Of The Pie Is Smaller.
Sep 22, 2010

This used to be a career where many of us were able to ride the gravy train for awhile.  Don't get me wrong, we really worked hard for our money.  But, back in the day, we either had our own accounts and kept the entire cpl, or we worked for an MTSO who subcontracted to us or hired us to transcribe and we got a bigger piece of that cpl pie.  I made some fantastic money even 12 years ago.  I was working on tapes or rerecording on from my Skutch box. The years have advanc ...

Minimum Wage--piece Rate Law
May 31, 2013

Of course, we all know about minimum wage laws but I was wondering if any one has any knowledge as to whether there might be a minimum piece-rate wage law.  I think if there was such a law, organizations such as MM would not be able to pay their highly-trained and highly-skilled employees as though they were a bunch of uneducated laborers. ...

Very Interesting.....
Apr 16, 2012

I think it is very interesting how a company will make you jump through hoops to "prove" you are an independent contractor but still want you to use an employee based punch in/out system. You don't get it both ways, if I am an independent contractor, then I don't have to use your employee based punch system, especially when you want to charge for it but to keep track of my own hours is free. ...

Well, Here's Something Interesting
May 02, 2012

I copied this from another site (sorry not supposed to put names on here): "(Transcription company name) is looking for MTs with minimum one year's experience for its Delhi office.  Mail CV at (their e-mail address here).  No, we do not outsource!" What the h***fire does that mean?  We do not outsource?  oh you mean to AMERICA where you got the work from?  sad, very very sad. ...

Interesting Ad

I saw an ad for radiology.  It states no experience necessary.  Paid training is available.  Typing skills are a plus but not required.  Earn up to $30,000 part time adn $55,000 full time.  How can someone post an ad like this.   Obviously it is an ad to train for medical transcription.  I hope that no one falls for this. ...

It Will Be Interesting To See What Happens When
Jan 28, 2014

Been reading the business perspective of what will happen when (not if - when) minimum wage is increased, and 99% of companies who employ low income workers say that will be the day they lay off most of their employees, or have to close their doors altogether.  Not that I expect MModal to ever "close their doors", but that does leave open the other alternative for a huge layoff as the need to "supplement" employees who aren't earning minimum wage, or who don't meet their ridiculou ...

Something That I Found Very Interesting
Nov 21, 2009

Just for the heck of it, I went to the resume section of this board, and noticed there were quite a few MTs with "entry-level or less than 5 year's experience" wanting to be compensated 10-15 cpl  -- I really seriously doubt that is going to happen, especially for a "newer" MT.  I would suggest that if you are really serious about finding a job in MT, then revise your expected compensation rate to something a bit more realistic. ...

Isn't It Interesting That Newbies Are Getting
Jul 01, 2010

us oldies are getting below 98%, in some cases waaayy below, after years or decades of exemplary work, with raises, etc. How much more obvious can it get that they're downsizing the highest paid (and most experienced) MT/ME, to hire the newbies and get the tax breaks. Makes me SICK, so I resigned a couple weeks ago and feel absolutely in shock that I did it, finally, and trust in God for a better job. ...

Something Interesting I Noticed.....
Jun 15, 2011

I work in-house at a clinic.  When I'm reading over reports from the transcription service, I noticed there are no periods after "Mr.," "Dr.," and so forth.  The transcriptionists type them as Dr, Mr, Mrs, etc.  Is this yet another way to cheat the MTs out of keystrokes?  If so, that's pretty pathetic. ...
