I had a pleasant application and testing - Bonnie

with CBS Transcription. The recruiter provided test results which has not happened on the few times I tested for a company. Her emails were not canned text and she was quite pleasant. Unfortunately, CBS uses Express Scribe which is an AWFUL program now. I could not get the auto backstep to work no matter what I did with the settings. Not sure how one could make any money using that.

Strange post - huh? that was a very difficult test, technically a

CBS transcription gave about the hardest set of test files I've ever had to deal with. The "recruiter" also said she had sent me "my results," but there were none attached or included in the email. Two or three others "agreed" the test was incredibly difficult and posted same on the board the other day. It was "impossible" to understand much of what the doctors were saying without guessing/already knowing what they meant, which could be done in time, I'm sure, with many years of experience-- that we all have, and a couple of weeks of familiarity with the very fast-speaking staff members. However, someone did get the job--I'd love to know how he or she did it. They must be absolutely phenomenal transcriptionists. My Express Scribe neither backspaced nor worked at all, footpedal-wise. I did the test "manually." I find your post strange because you refer to the test/experience as "pleasant." You seem to indicate the only reason you didn't "take" the job, and I assume you didn't, was on account of your backspace situation. So, how were your results, anyway? Since mine were not actually attached to my email, I did not find out how presumably, poorly I did. If you did well and were offered the job let's say, and didn't take it because of the footpedal, I'd be curious to know. Perhaps I'm not as swift as I thought I was...then again, are we ever? The recruiter was tactful, yes, and at least it appeared attempted to return my results, pathetic as they might have been...

These recruiters really suck sometimes. Same one, same lack - of following up as before. SM

and that's really pathetic, lame, and a really p-poor excuse for professionalism.

Are you seeing this and paying attenion, recruiters? Yes, I have a specific one in mind. You're losing out on some very good MTs with your laziness, inattention, and not following up by calling people when you ask them to call you.

One I could name, or mention initials, has pulled the same stunt twice so far on me with different companies. That's really pathetic after I've passed their test and been asked to call them each time.

The recruiter was pleasant to - Bonnie

[ In Reply To ..]
communicate with - even wished me well on the test. I haven't encountered this in a long time. I'd like think this reflects the company culture. Yes - Express Scribe made the test difficult but I was able to understand the physicians and did well. Maybe you should contact the recruiter to let her know the results weren't attached. It happens.

I used the free version of Express Scribe which is probably not as good as the pro version. Did I not take the job based on the backspace situation?? No. I took another job that was offered before I received my test results.

I'm not sure what is so strange about my post.

wow, 2 job offers on the same day...I haven't had that happen since 1993 - no job sally

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess the recruiter was not as friendly at the job you did take, on the same day you were offered the other job where the recruiter/company seemed friendly or you would have mentioned how nice the company you chose was...hope you didn't make the wrong choice...btw, feel free to email your presumably excellent test results from CBS transcription, I'd love to see what a "winning" example looks like...

I have used Express Scribe for years and have never had any problems with it.

It's changed A LOT over the years. - MT4-2long

I used to love it. It's awful now - distorts audio, can't adjust settings - Ugh!

express scribe--is it free? I had to pay... - idiot407

[ In Reply To ..]
Started new job, they said it was "free." It was free for 2 weeks, then you need to pay $39 and change to be able to continue to use the pedal. Did I miss something? My company tells me it's still free (to their knowledge)-- so of course, I must have done something wrong...but seeing as I preferred to continue to be able to use the footpedal, although it's so much fun using the mouse only...well I bought it anyway. I figure the week and a half it took to make up the expenditure is well worth it in the "longrun." LOL the sentiment was LOL, the week and a half to pay for it part, was true. Another great, part-time "IC" job. Again, LOL. It's all so f'ing hilarious.
There's a free trial version but it's terrible - MT4-2long

and then there's the paid version with more glitches than one can shake a stick at. See the link for reviews.
That one too you will get locked out after 14 days. - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
Same crap, different version. Unless you download a really older version, which I have on my Vista laptop, then you get forced into the newer versions on Windows 7 or 8, and 14 days hits - BOOM, you're done. Unless you pay. But, thru end of September, it's only $29/30 instead of 39/40... whatever.

That's what I found today when my "free" version expired. Can't delete and reinstall, some sort of spyware tells them you're reloading on the same computer and it still asks you if you want to upgrade. You kind of have to if you want your pedal to work now - filthy lying thieves.

They're trying to screw people royally. When it says at the uninstall, do you wish to tell the developers why you're uninstalling, YES, I DO, AND I DID, no holds barred, I let them have it with my honest opinion.
express scribe - why should it be free? from what utopia did you ha
[ In Reply To ..]
this part is a lie, however...where they say it's "$29 through the end of September." They charged me $39, anyway, though only middle of Sept. Ow, I don't understand how or why anyone would think this "service" would be free of charge until the end of time...
Honey, for years it was a free player. Only in the last few have. - they started sellng.
[ In Reply To ..]
That just about covers HOW and WHY. Perhaps you haven't been around long enough to know that. Also, there are PLENTY of free players out there from companies who use that as bait to sell you some other software.

We're not as stupid as you proclaim to think and/or make us out to be in your little post.

I love this board! - Bad days, "Honeys"

Question On Job Application
Nov 25, 2011

I quit my transcription job this past summer after almost 15 years in the transcription field. Everything that I enjoyed about transcription when I started was no longer there. I was tired of seeing my pay go down, benefits being taken away, and sitting for hours trying to get my work done. I wasn't sure if I was going to try and find another transcription job or just take some much needed time off. I was looking at some job postings at a local hospital, and they have a position for a s ...
