Hired But Forgotten - ST

Posted: Aug 25, 2011

I was hired for my first transcription position and filled out the paperwork Aug 4th.  They said after the platform was installed on my computer (done Aug. 19th) the training would begin.  The trainer has not communicated w/me at all.  When I emailed HR and asked if training would begin this week (Aug 21st) the response was "hope so, but I have been on vacation and am not sure".  I emailed HR again yesterday (Aug. 24th) with no response.  They had been very professional up to this point, with calls from supervisor, platform coordinator, payroll, and HR that were welcoming and optimistic.

It has been 3 weeks.  What gives?

what company - ST

I would rather not say. Does it usually take this long to get things going? Or is something else going on?

If I were you... - Hmm

I would try calling them. Do you have a number you can try? The last time I worked for a large MTSO, they had me up and running in a week. So I think this is odd.
Holding - ST

I considered it but something told me to hold back. We had been communicating back/forth using email this week. HR doesn't appear to know when it will start and how many times can you ask (comfortably)? Also, when I interviewed, I was told this was a new account and they were hiring IC's for the first time. Is it problem w/that?

I don't understand why they are not keeping me abreast of what is going on. It doesn't feel right, though. Darn! I was so excited and now...

I'll probably call tomorrow if I don't hear back this afternoon.

Keystrokes was the worst experience I ever had. The archives show so many terrible stories with that company. I experienced their craziness as a new hire. Nightmares.
The Company is - ST

Unfortunately, it was not Keystrokes. Sad to know there are more ethically-challenged companies out there.

It was SOAP Transcription. HR pointed out during my interview how they liked working with new MTs. So I guess there are others feeling the sting.

And I'll bet their ad said,"MTs needed IMMEDIATELY", too! - They forget the MT needs WORK immediately. Idiots.

Happened to me too. I went so far as to purchase....sm - oldtimer

I just called HR and got voicemail. Left message but I can feel in my gut this isn't going to happen.

How am I going to trust anyone in this field? I turned down a position for this company. What newbie can afford to do that?

crappy business ethics - BeenAroundMT

[ In Reply To ..]
This happens to MTs with experience, as well. Myself and other MTs have had offers by both phone and e-mail. I document everything, so I am sure I have the information correct. Then, for some unknown reason the contact ends. I have suspected that sometimes a company places ads, interviews appropriate candidates, screens those candidates, then makes offers to more MTs than they need, and therefore just ignores the remainder. Yes, I consider this to be very crappy business ethics.

The stories about people buying add-on programs, even upgrading their computer, foot pedal, etc., then not starting with a company are also true.

I ran into a situation where I was hired, wasted unpaid time being trained on an account, and I spent hours with technical support trying to deal with their platform problems, worked for a couple of days, and then there was not work available. Oh, but they needed me so desperately (!). I was then assured that I would be assigned another account. After initially attempting numerous times to contact all the appropriately people, it's now been a couple of months and I have had no response and obviously I'm not working for this company.

I think we're all just a number or a warm body and most of the companies just want the cheapest workers they can find.

Here's my basic rule -- don't trust any company. Give any employer a good day's work one day at a time, and that's all you ever owe them.

My suggestion would be to contact the company you turned down, explain why things did not work out, and ask if they still have a job available.

Best wishes.

Turned down a position for this.... - Kat

I want to suggest that you get in touch with the company that you turned down a position with. People are aware of the unscupulous things that happen in this industry at times and they may still have the position open that they offered you, just explain what happened and tell them you are still available. It couldnt hurt to try, all they can say is no, or possibly they will put you on a list to contact you when something comes open. As for whether you will ever be able to trust anyone in this industry.....my opinion is that this is like everything else (sometimes worse but you know what I mean) and you have to just keep your chin up and march on. Dont let things get you down, get back up and keep looking. Concentrate on the good somehow and just know that if this company did this to you, it is better that you dont work for them anyhow. You will find a good company to work for, keep looking until you do. Good luck in your search. I agree this is a horrible way to conduct business and treat other people. I'm sure it will come back to bite them.
Thanks! - ST

I emailed the company's HR rep to let her know what happened and that I would like to be considered for the position if it was still open. Hopefully I'll hear back one way or the other.

Hired/Forgotten Update - ST

[ In Reply To ..]
I did finally hear back from them (wish it had been sooner so I wouldn't have felt forgotten) and it turns out it was a technical problem on the client's end that was holding things up. I'm psyched because I really want to work with them.

Forgotten Periods!
Apr 22, 2014

Anyone else having issues with the speech engine just randomly forgetting periods.  As in, it knows the sentence has ended, has capitalized the next word or put in a paragraph carriage return, but there is no punctuation to be found. It used to be there'd be a missing one every now and again at the end of a paragraph, but this morning it's every other sentence.  Happy Earth Day!  ...

Will I Get Hired?
Sep 06, 2010

I have a question for all MedQuist MTs . . . I called them and was told that I qualified and passed MedQuist's test. That was about a week ago. I was told that I am still being "considered" and "reviewed." One recruiter told me that it would just be a matter of time before they could get through all of the paperwork. Another recruiter simply told me my file was still being "reviewed." What does this mean? Does MedQuist always offer jobs to those that pass their testing? Or is it possible t ...

Just Got Hired!
Sep 27, 2011

I am told that I just got hired by Nuance.  Am interested in what people have to say about the company.  I have read that the first part of this month, they were running out of work.  If so, do they really need me? Also, am interested in insurance costs?  Some straight answers would be most appreciated. Thanks, Charlie ...

Does Anyone Ever Get Hired....?
May 30, 2012

Does anyone ever get hired from these companies who are continually posting help wanted ads?!?!?  I have applied to at least 15 companies posting ads for help only to sit here waiting for at least 5 weeks, so far, for an answer to any for which I applied!  I have been a medical transcriptionist for over 20 years as well as a QA worker for over 5 years.  My resume is on par with what I consider to be some of the best, yet I never receive an answer to my applications.  I realiz ...

Too Old To Get Hired?
Jul 26, 2013

Should I stop saying I have 31 years of experience as a transcriptionist? I try not to date myself by putting dates on my resume, like when I graduated. I am 61 and will be 62 next June. I have not worked since March, but I made so little money that I get way less than 200 dollars a week from unemployment! I have applied everywhere, outside the house and inside. I have attended resume counseling at the career center, nobody is interested in helping me pay for any schooling, they change the s ...

Anyone Hired?
Apr 24, 2015

All the ads on the job seeker's board have hundreds and even thousands of responses.  Does anyone ever really get hired?  One of the ads wants someone to start "within the next hour," and that was a few days ago and it now has hundreds of responses.  Why is that ad still even posted?  Only rarely does a company take its ad down or post a message when positions are filled.  Do the other companies just not care?  Can it be that all those hundreds and thousands of ...

Newly Hired MT
Aug 31, 2010

Hello, I am new to the forum and recently hired as an at-home MT. It has been a year since I completed college MT courses at a tech center. The employer, saw my resume online. I have a p/t job that I've had for 2 years in addition to the MT job. Both jobs, are flex in hours, although the MT employer would like full-time. It pays 8 cents for every 60 characters. I would really love to drop the p/t job because it miserable in many ways. Can someone break the pay down in other terms? W ...

How Much MT Experience Is Too Much To Get You Hired?
Nov 15, 2011

I spent last week typing test dictations for transcription jobs. After typing five tests today for one company and then 3 more for another company I am wondering why I haven't been called back on any of these jobs. I have heard of having too little experience, but is there such a thing has having too much experience that a company is afraid to hire you because they think you will demand to be paid too much. Even though I have 10+ years experience I am willing to take 7 cpl just so that I c ...

Has The Q Hired A Flunky?
Jan 09, 2012

I've been getting the impression that the Q is paying someone to contest all the negative posts.  In the last week or so, as soon as something negative is posted it is answered almost immediately.  I do not think an MT could be working and still be immediately available to do this.  I've also never met anyone personally who defends this place. ...

Why Didn't I Get Hired?
Aug 27, 2012

I have been a MT for 30 yrs. I had to stop working 4 yrs ago due to health issues, then finally had 2 surgeries which pretty much took care of the problem. While I was out on disability I got a grant, went back to an AHDI approved University and took refresher courses in MT fulltime for a year. Now, I'm ready to get back to work. I submitted a resume to M-Modal last week and just read they are not considering me. Is there a way to find out why? I'm a good transcriptionist and I want to ...

What Are My Chances Of Getting Hired Anywhere
Aug 31, 2012

I have two years experience but my experience is not recent.  I did not graduate from a school or course, rather, I was trained by an MTE and by someone who had a general practice that they typed for.  Eventually I was able to take over the general practice but had to give it up because my husband's health was critical. I would like very much to get back to MT work but the ads I'm seeing are not conducive to me thinking I'm going to get hired......  What y'all ...
