Games services play because they can. High line counts so no benefits. - ATT

The MTSOs have ridiculously quick TATs, therefore, leaving you with very little work and unable to produce your line count???

she means MTSOs changing the rules all the time and... - anon

one of those rules being raising the quota you need for insurance benefits in hopes you won't make it on the work flow, probaby hiring 2 too many as well, and then not having to provide/pay for the benefits YOU did not earn...while the MTOSs walk away guilt-free.

Ever watch the movie or read the book Catch 22?

Thank you RLee. I was shown years ago the tricks there were. - ATT

Benefits were not offered from services at first, then the law said if they had 6 employees they had to OFFER it to them. They found ways of getting around it all. Even the sign-on bonuses. We never get a bonus, not even for longevity nor being dependable, nor for harder work. But what is the stipulation for sign-on bonus? You have to type constantly, perfectly and probably switch from account to account and do this for a year. I surely cannot get a linecount on foreign doctors and a new account and leave no blanks. Don't know how others do it.

jobs, though. Companies more and more want full time.

Line counts, are they not going higher? FT is ONLY if you maintain minimum. - ATT

[ In Reply To ..]
Isn't that how your service works? You have to have a minimum and who determines the minimum, to be considered full time. You are only OFFERED benefits if you are full time. Full time means 1500 lines. If you have all foreign difficult doctors, then you are not considered FT. One service I was told if you did not maintain your count, they transferred you to Cobra to pay for the month.

1500 is a high line count. What MTSO is that for? The line count minimum where I work is 10,000 a pay, which in my opinion is not much.
1500 is probably pre-virtual black character. It's not - difficult for skilled MTs to meet

and significantly exceed minimum daily line requirements. What is it that constantly leads some people to always blame others for their problems instead of honestly evaluating their own performance? Whatever it is, it's costing those people dreadfully. The simple reality is MANY of us have NO PROBLEM producing a lot more lines, including with the accented dictators who are a normal part of most jobs these days. MOST of us do work full time and earn full benefits. Those who truly cannot after 2 years of full-time work have a far more serious problem than just all the poor maligned dictators who ARE this job.
It's not difficult for skilled MTs - Old Pro

I agree. I routinely do 1800-2000 visible black character lines a day--and on an account with lots of ESLs. It has taken me many years to do this, but it is very definitely doable, I agree with you. And I am surely not the only MT I know who does this--many, many of my friends and colleagues do this, too.
Many of us can't do lines if there is no or sporadic work. - sm

I'm a seasoned acute-care high producer with high QA, and I was barely able to maintain minimum at my long-time MTSO for the last six months I was there. I started over at a new place with 5 accounts and lots of promises, and after 3 months it's the same old story.
You who can't do lines - I understand
[ In Reply To ..]
I understand and sympathize completely. I went through the same thing for months when MDI tapdanced us around, telling us there would be enough work soon. (Ha!) My only advice to people in that situation is to get out now. I wasted six months (and nearly lost my home), all the while being fed excuses--which I so foolishly believed. My family is only now making a financial recovery from that little mess. So I do understand. If they cannot provide you with enough work, move on. They don't deserve you.
Our FT benefits are not affected IF there is not - sm

enough work in order to maintain them. Maybe I am just lucky with where I work, but if there is no work we can't get the lines, therefore we are not penalized. Even when we start a new account, if we are slow for a week or two maintaining minimum line count, once again we are not penalized AND we are given "training pay" which is what our PTO hourly rate is.

Why they want low line rates - aclu

[ In Reply To ..]
This may not be completely on subject, but it's my theory why the services pay such low per line rates. They want people to work longer hours and at least 5 days so they can cover the TAT times and not have to hire so many MT's. Pay them less and it takes them longer to make a living wage. It's all a scheme. When the pay was good years ago, you could work 4 hours a day and make as much or more than you needed to. When there was more work than normal, they paid a 1-1/2 line rate or more. I'm tired of hearing all this sympathy for the service companies. They have gone corporate and we all know what that means. I worked for a great one-owner company years ago for, made good money, worked genuine flexible hours. The year she decided to go national and incorporate, the line count dropped drastically, required to work at least one weekend day and no more overtime pay. See? They're very sly. Not necessarily nice, but smart about getting the most out of people for the least amount of money. I'd like to see the hospitals go back to doing their own transcription. It would be better for the MTs and better for the hospital.

Years ago and this was BEFORE the days of Internet and short-cuts/abbreviation glossaries, could easy do 2000 lines in less than 7 hours (on a regular basis). More than a little strange that with all the technological advances plus the advent of Shorthand/personal abbreviation files, it is MORE difficult (if not impossible) to achieve high levels of production.

For Those With High Line Counts-
Jan 29, 2015

I pulled up some old posts on here for line count averages, etc. I am seeing the high producers really utilize their word expander programs (work smarter, not harder). Do any of you have any websites that can help with tips for utilizing it? Do any of you use medications in the expander (I do not)?? Tips for using it/remembering what you enter (that's my problem)? Do any of you use it on VR and actually produce more b/c of it? I usually straight type and find on VR I do not really use my ex ...

OSI Line Counts..
Aug 05, 2010

I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what OSI cuts out of their line counts?  Seeing as they use a remote website for line counts, it is pretty obvious they cut corners with what MTs get paid on.  I was just wondering WHAT are the cutting?  Do they only pay 1 space?  Do they not pay if you copy and paste? Do they only pay on a % per page - meaning if you have little on 1 page you aren't going to get any credit for those lines, etc?  Just curio ...

Line Counts And ESL
Nov 12, 2011

I know this has been discussed before, but what is up with these line counts?  I used to have no problem doing 200+ lph.  Now, I work at the same pace on an account with less ESL speakers and I struggle to get my required 150 lph.  I won't even comment on the fact that my straight typing has dwindled away to maybe 10 lines a day...on a good day.  Thanks for listening...this is just all so very frustrating.  I try to keep a positive attitude and be very diligent about my work and ...

What Could Be The Reason For Odd Line Counts?
May 12, 2010

According to the Escript, I'm doing an average of 300 lph on VR but usually at the end of 8 hours, I don't top 1100 liines most days.  On Dictaphone's ExSpeech, i used to consistently do 1800-2400 a day on a combination. I have noticed with EScript that 1 day a week, my lines will hit 1200-1300, and I even hit 1500 one  day, yet the lph were still 300.  It doesn't make sense. Line Counts And Templates
Jun 22, 2010

Hi - I have a question regarding counting templates. I have a new doc who wants me to only count what he dictates, and not the templated review of systems, past medical history, social history, etc. which is all unchanged (unless he says to change it). Do you cut and paste your work into a "count" file to get the total, or do you tell the doctor that it has to be included in the count. And what about the times he does make changes to the "templated items". I welcome any suggestions. ...

What Line Counts Standards Are Out There
