what does "sig" mean in medications? - gkscc

I have a dictator that says the drug, dispensed #x, then says "sig". What does the sig mean? What's the purpose?

example: Norco 5/325 mg, dispense #10, sig. 1 p.o. q. 6 hours

Doc dictates "omega-3 1000 mg, vitamin B12 1000 mcg, vitamin D3 2000 international units" My feeling is maybe it should be expanded to "omega-3 one-thousand mg, vitamin B12 one-thousand mcg, and vitamin D3 two-thousand international units," but that feels wrong. Anyone have any suggestions? ...
