support or sport wire? - moonchild

on cardiac caths, i often hear support wire or sport wire. i've looked in a lot of places and have found support used, but i'm still not sure, because sometimes it sure sounds like sport. any help appreciated. thanks.

Not my field, but I've heard them called guidewires a lot more often than support wires, so they might be using a brand name.

Abbott Labs has it lowercase P in their catalog - sm

I think it's trademarked as all capitals though, so I wouldn't say it's wrong to capitalize the P. But it's probably best to leave it lowercase, since it's obviously a contraction for the word "support."

thanks so much. i'm guessing there are times they say S'port wire but its so unclear, but from what everyone here is saying, sounds like i'm okay if i'm putting support. thanks again.!
