axis wire vs access wire - mutant

Posted: Apr 19, 2013

In podiatry op note, doc dictates axis wire (I am sure that it is axis wire), but my QA always changes it to access wire.  I tried to convince him that it is axis and not access, but he is not convinced.  Can anyone help me in providing any realiable documentation to prove it.

we would need the actual sentence - sm

do you have a reason to think it's axis wire? Access and axis sound virtually identical. Why are you trying to convince QA it's axis?

axis vs access - mutant

I know it is axis because there is reference available on net and there is not a single reference for access wire. I am trying to convince QA because it is affecting the accuracy of the document.

axis wire vs access wire - mutant

Procedure is osteotomy, first metatarsal base, left foot. Used K-wire for the procedure, but in one sentence dictated "axis/access wire was removed."

Mutant you are correct - see message

I also googled both words in reference to an osteotomy and everything seems to be pointing to "axis wire" an example sentence as below:

"Once the osteotomy is completed, an axis guide is established at the proximal portion of the osteotomy using a small Kirschner wire"

In this instance, the Kirschner wire is the **axis guide/wire** So I believe you are correct in that it is not access.

Hey, are you transcribing my missing OP - 2bz2sleep

LOL. My missing podiatrist dictates this, axis wire....

It appears that "access wires" are used to "access" veins or tubes, like a guidewire, and an "axis wire" is used to assist with fixation or stabilization.

Cardiac Cath - Support Wire Or Sport Wire?
    Jun 22, 2013

In a cath report, is it support wire or sport wire?  With Google, it seems like it should be support wire, but it sure sounds like he (ESL) says sport wire. JR4 guiding catheter with side hole was used to selectively engage the right coronary artery.  Short sport wire was advanced all the way to the distal vessel.  After that, we placed 2.75 x 30-mm Resolute drug-eluting stent We used a 3.75 EBU guiding catheter selectively engaged left main and the same sport wire was advanced ...
