PCS abbreviation? - Joanna

Could someone please explain to me what "PCS antitussive" listed in the plan refers to? I know that p.c. is by mouth and OTC is over-the-counter, but I encountered the above phrase and I'm completely lost. I don't want to capitalize it or not capitalize it (or even put it) if I'm not sure myself. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, Abby. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be post-concussion syndrome, however, because it's listed in the plan right before "antitussive", which is meant to be some sort of info about an antitussive medication. I was wrong in saying that p.c. means "by mouth" when it actually means "after meals". But I can't imagine what PCS as a whole would be...

I was thinking it might be DCS/antitussive (as in decongestant, cough suppressant/antitussive) but I can't think of what the "P" in PCS would be except perhaps "prescription", but I wouldn't guess on it....

All I can think is either "pharmacogenic confusional syndrome," but that..sm - Cyndiee

would be more of a diagnosis, as when someone abuses a medication or has a reaction to a medication (yes, kids and others now get high with Robitussin and other types of cold meds), or could the doc be slurring D/C antitussive, as in discontinue antitussive as a plan for discharge meds???

It might be "DCS" as flybye said, but regardless, I do believe I've already turned in the report. My employers allow me to leave blanks when necessary so I think it will be alright. Though it's always good to learn something new, isn't it? :) Thanks for the help.

Hi, I'm transcribing for an ENT physician who dictated the following about a 7-year-old boy: "He has had problems with allergy and symptoms of fever, headache, facial pressure, postnasal drip, and sore throat. He has had PFPs which were normal." I haven't heard the abbreviation before of PFP and the doctor is speaking quickly enough that I can't tell if maybe it ends in an E or T instead of P. This is regarding a pt who was hospitalized for a presumed stroke that did not show on either MRI or CT. Dictator is discussing this: As it turns out, the symptoms resolved within 48 hours and neither the CT scan nor the MRI scan showed that she had actually had a stroke so this was a prolonged "TRA" or a reversible ischemic neurologic deficit or RIND. The R is very clear so I really do not think it is TIA (if only it were so easy on a Saturday night!) ...
