Can you give any more info. Ileal refers to the ileum (the end of the intestine). It could be ileal pouch, ileal conduit or something else.

A 50-year-old G7 P6 SAB1 with an 18-week sized fibroid uterus, symptomatic, with also (or was also) ILOU with USI. The patient is having an exploratory laparotomy, total abdominal hysterectomy, Burch procedure and suprapubic cystoscopy. During the procedure details, she never repeats it or goes into detail.

I looked in the OB/GYN book and the GI/GU book (because this involves 2 systems and I cannot say for sure what that is. Under ileal in the GU book there are about 20 possibilities; do you have that book? Sorry, I can't help. I would blank it.

You shouldn't assume it is an abbreviation.

"ILOU" is what you hear - not necessarily what the doctor says.

Ileo U or (ileal U) is ileal ureterostomy, performed for urinary stress incontinence (USI).

With this in mind, you might want to re-listen. They may be saying something more like ileo "U for USI".

Just a guess - maybe he's saying ileo-U for ileo-ureterostomy? nm - Mamaa

Hi, I'm transcribing for an ENT physician who dictated the following about a 7-year-old boy: "He has had problems with allergy and symptoms of fever, headache, facial pressure, postnasal drip, and sore throat. This is regarding a pt who was hospitalized for a presumed stroke that did not show on either MRI or CT. Dictator is discussing this: As it turns out, the symptoms resolved within 48 hours and neither the CT scan nor the MRI scan showed that she had actually had a stroke so this was a prolonged "TRA" or a reversible ischemic neurologic deficit or RIND. The R is very clear so I really do not think it is TIA (if only it were so easy on a Saturday night!) ...
