Lachman obliterated? - Cheesey

Operative report, ACL reconstruction.
Whole sentence sounds like "Lachman is obliterated."
Does that make sense?
I think you're right. - sm - jld

When doing a Google search, I found a link (though I guess you have to be a member to actually see the whole article it goes to) on arthroscopyjournal.org where there's this article named "The Effect of Transforming Growth Factor-β1 on Intraosseous Healing of Flexor Tendon Autograft Replacement of Anterior Cruciate Ligament in Dogs." (Long name, huh? Anyway...) The little clip that you can actually see on Google from the article includes this partial sentence:
"...was then tensioned until the surgeon felt that the Lachman sign was obliterated."
So I would think that means you're hearing it right. ;-)

Sounds right to me. The Lachman test is an orthopedic test used for examining the anterior cruciate ligament.

I knew it was a test, but I just didn't understand how obliterated fit into it.
I thought tests were positive, negative, inconclusive, or not able to be done. Never heard of one being obliterated. I guess it just doesn't make sense to me.
*sigh* medical jargon lol

Is it an ESL account? There are other tests for the knee area that, if dictated by certain accents and of course going really fast might sound fuzzy, here's a couple I had a problem with when I was green that could slip past your brain...."Lachman and pivot shift is negative"..."Negative Lachman, negative pivot shift"...Negative anterior drawer, PCL sign,"......there are a lot of P and soft B sounds goin' on in there..say this really fast... "LACHmannPIvotshiff"
Or, he's been standing too close to the anesthesia again and is mayking up werds.
I am doing online school for MT and was told last night that there won't be any need for MT's after July 2010 as all the DRs are required to go electronic and they will be just speaking into a computer and the computer will do this for them. Is this true? I was so hoping to make a great career out of this. Any input appreciated. ...
