Faber or fabere sign? - sw
Posted: Jul 08, 2013
I have seen this both ways at my current job, so I don't think it matters, but I'm curious as to which one is correct? Is it Faber sign or fabere sign?
FABER - Freebie

FABER Test "flexion, abduction, and external rotation (which is where the name FABER comes from)"

Stedman's shows faber (flexion in abduction and external rotation); fabere (flexion, abduction, external rotation, extension)sign and test. I've only ever run into the sign and test usage, and why this acronym is not capitalized is a mystery to me. Have fun!
FABERE - Tex

It is FABERE. An earlier post had it almost right, but the quoted source left off the final E.
After placing the leg in the flexed, abducted, and externally rotated position, an extension force is applied, which puts stress on the sacroiliac joint.
The eponym is Patrick's Test. It is also sometimes called "Figure of 4 Test."

I think it can go either way - mimt

This answer will not be helpful at all, I'm sure. At my last job, they wanted it FABER. At my new job, QA marked me down for FABER and said it was fabere. Another account I work on at the same company says it doesn't matter between faber/fabere but it is no longer capitalized and most of the MTs on that account do faber. When you look it up it comes up all 3 ways. It's confusing! It makes sense to me to do all caps because it stands for something. I guess it can technically go either way though. You might want to just check with QA where you work, see what they prefer, and stick with that.
Can anyone tell me which is correct? I have been typing it as FABER for years (acronym), but now have been told that it is faber according to 6th edition I believe of the Stedman's, which I do not have access to. Thanks! ...
OK.....
It's an orthopedic chart note. Patient has a chief complaint of hip pain.
Dictated: He has a negative [s/l fair, fairs, varus?] sign, a negative fabere sign.
It doesn't sound like fadir; I'm not hearing that "d." I already had to leave two medication blanks and hate to leave another one for an orthopedic sign that I feel like I should know!
Thank you in advance for your help and ideas!

Trying to figure out which is the correct spelling. QA did mark it as Fabere's maneuver in a past report, but isn't that an acronym for flexion, abduction, external rotation, extension, or is that acceptable, too? I'm not questioning the QA or anything; I just came across a report that said Fabere's test and wanted to double check :)

OK- I had seriously thought I had heard everything until we had a doctor specifically say that the FABER test should be typed FAbEr test. We had another doctor state it should be Faber and she dug up 1 publication that had it that way. I have always typed it FABER or FABERE (depending on how the doctor pronounces the word). Anyway- my manager e-mailed both, Dr. "FAbEr" stated that is the way he's seen it in publications and Dr. "Faber" deferred to his judgment so now that is how we need to ...
I see this test typed all the time in ASR as Faber test but when I Googled it, it came up as all caps because it is an acronym.
Can anyone kindly shed some light?
Thanks so much!

Orthopedics doc keeps saying "la faber's maneuver" when he is doing hip exams. I have found FABERE but no la faber. I have asked his nurse to find out what he is talking about and he insists that it is "la faber" and is French. *Is* there a la faber maneuver and I just can't find it? ...

For the past three years my husband an I have hosted his company Christmas party here at our home. The company and employees make all the arrangements, including sending a cleaning service the day before! It's great. All I have to do is sit back and watch as my home is transformed into a beautiful Christmas party venue.

The other evening at the grocery store, I picked up the newest issue of Employment Guide. You've probably seen it - it's usually by the doors to the store, and it's a nationwide publication. It used to list actual job openings for the local area. Now, though, it seems to be mainly an ad newspaper for schools offering career training. Anyway, what struck me about this issue is that none of the schools that have always advertised in this paper list medical transc ...
I had an interview last week with a big national company, recruiter was unprepared, kept making excuses as to why and then was supposed to send more info, but that didn't happen. Then was supposed to call again today, no call. I'm going to take that as a sign that this is not a good place to work. Oh Lordy, I really need a job! Any advice please. Just email me. ...
From all of the negativity about Nuance, I was very leery about accepting a position with them, but finances prevail. Today was the final day to submit my paperwork, with training to begin on Monday, and I wake up this morning to find my computer died (I'm on a laptop now). Coincidence or warning? ...

I am doing an H&P and the doctor says:
"Alert and oriented x 3. No sign(s) of (s/l) sedation. No acute distress. Normal gait."
Have you ever seen "no sign of sedation" in an H&P for a cervical epidural steroid injection?
Any idea what else it could be?
