BeyondText - Pauline

For MTs who use BeyondText.  How hard is it to learn?  I have never done any VR whatsoever and I am scared to death because I hear so many horror stories about it.  Will be starting in the next 2 weeks on it.  Petrified.    Any advice would be appreciated.

When this happened to me, I had no clue - as I had only used SM

Bayscribe in the past. I must say, as with learning anything new, when you are overloaded with too much information to comprehend at once, your brain disengages. :) What saved me was signing up for Yahoo IM, finding out who would be working on the account with me, and inviting them to join. If you can find people who are going through the same thing that you are (or have gone through it) and are willing to help you out, you will get it eventually. My company was bought out and I came on with other people who had to learn this as well, so that helped. You definitely need a mentor IMO, at least I did. It really depends on you and your ability to learn new things. You might have an easier time than I did, who knows? :)

I will be learning BeyondTXT myself starting next week - lka

Just to give you a little background on me. I have been an MT for about 25 years doing all straight typing until 2 years ago when I start VR on Escription. I was petrified myself but found it very easy to learn and actually prefer VR now compared to straight typing.

As I said, I will be starting a new job with another company next week using BeyondTXT and I know a couple people who work there and say it is quite easy, so I am not worried. Just allow yourself the learning curve that the company allows... usually 90 days. You should know within 2-3 weeks if you are improving from day 1. That is the way I am looking at it. Good luck!

There's a lot about it to like, and - I found it very easy

And when I first started working in VR, it made me nervous... but as others have said, it's really no big deal, and there's not much to it, although it does require a different level of concentration to listen and read, and match the two.

BeyondTXT was definitely written with the MT in mind. Best of luck to you going forward!

Recently started on it & - love it so far!

It seems so much more user friendly than any other platform I've been on in the last 10 years. The VR picks up way more than the one at my previous employer, too. Good luck!

Beyondtext Question
Nov 29, 2011

Can anyone share their average lines per hour for the VR on Beyond Text platform?  Need to make a decision but need to know what is actually possible on the platform.  I know most people say they cannot do more than 250 lph on VR and wanted to see if that was true on this platform?  Please do not bash me or VR, just asking what MTs are capable of doing on the platform.  Thanks in advance. ...

Transcend's BeyondText Platform
Nov 20, 2009

Are there any Transcend MTs who can tell me what their BeyondText platform is like?  Is it productive?  User friendly?  Easy or hard to make your line counts? Also, from what I've read their platform seems to be a mix of typing and ASR.  Is it mostly all one or the other, or is it a mix of the two? I'm thinking of applying, but kind of want to know what I'd be getting into first. ...
