Any companies that actually train you in VR? - fedup

Posted: Jun 14, 2010

Are they any companies that give you *good* training in voice recognition, and not just expects you to know how to do it. Say a full day or several days of good, thoroguh training.

I work for Focus Infomatics, and they train in VR. They gave us a lot of tips and keystrokes to use while doing VR. My speed on those is anywhere from 280-330 LPH.

How long was the training? sm - fedup

And was it just one on one with a trainer, or was it a group class?

It has been a while since I did it (over 2 years ago) but I think it was 1 day, and it was done on a conference call with other MTs in the company. Then they sent out all the keystrokes to use to us by email. It really is a great company to work for. They have really changed a lot in the last year and a half. Better benefits, better training, with a U.S. based management team now. Where do you work?
I don't work anywhere currently sm - fedup

Just trying to find a good company to train with VR. Thanks!

Focus has horrible Voice recognition - Janet

I posted this above. Their voice recognition never improves, even after months on the account. I was shocked and disappointed at that. If they don't improve the VR, then it slows the transcriptionist down. I fixed the same VR errors again and again for months, and sent e-mails telling them the redundant errors, but never an improvement.

That should say *thorough* - fedup

And there should be a question mark after my first sentence. Sorry for my mistakes. I'm tired and fed up. lol

MQ holds phone/online workshops - on a regular basis

as well as a complete manual; however, no matter how much training you put yourself through, you still can't make any real money on the platform.

Please don't think I'm just whining about nothing. ASR is truly a substandard, completely frustrating platform on which to try and make a living. It is rare to be able to do more than 100-150 lph on ASR. You will also be rewarded with between 1 and 4 cents per line depending on how much work you send to QA.

Medquist is a no no - fedup

I've heard too many horror stories and am avoiding it like the plague. Thank you though!

..unless you get the Spheris accounts - Raina

A friend of mine just got hired a couple of weeks ago on the "Spheris side" of the Q, and they are training her on VR. She said they have a different pay scale on those accounts, although I am not sure why.

Companies Who Train MTs
Feb 27, 2014

Is It Really Possible To Self-train?
Dec 26, 2010

I have been an MT for over 20 years, but during that time I've also done both inpatient and physician office coding, and also managed a physician's office for a number of years.  Is it possible, by purchasing the right materials, to hone my skills sufficiently to pass one of the certification exams?  ...

RE-TRAIN ACUTE CARE
May 10, 2013

I have been a transcriptionist for the past 22 years.  I have worked in hospitals and clinics as well as an IC.  Early in my career, I transcribed acute care, autopsy, pathology and radiology reports.   For the past 15 years I have concentrated on transcribing radiology reports which has been profitable for me since I did not mind typing difficult dictators and ESL physicians.   Currently, am fortunate to be working as a full-time employee and have my hourly rate.&n ...

President Of AHDI Advises Us To Train As Coders Or In EHR.
Mar 20, 2012

The latest issue of Plexus (MT industry journal) makes reference to the fact that the president of AHDI told a group of MTs to start training either as coders or in some EHR capacity.  Her point is having a broad base is our best bet at keeping/getting a good job in rapidly changing HIM these days. ...

What Is With These Companies?
Dec 30, 2009

Can anyone answer me why is it that these MT companies hire you and they all promise you the sun, moon and stars.  Oh we have TONS of work. We guarantee you at least 11 accounts and 2,500 lines a day. Then you are sitting there 6 months later, waiting for jobs? I have experienced this many times. Can it be that its just bad management and they overhire? Does anyone know of a company that really does have TONS of work? pay us hourly anymore anyway make us punch an electronic time clock?  What's wrong with sending simple timesheets like we did for years?  It has no effect on our pay whatsoever since we aren't hourly and is only to cover their butts regarding overtime, so why do they go through all the nightmare of eTime?! ...

Any Companies Who Do Not Use VR? (sm)
Jun 02, 2010

The company I work for has gone VR (on most jobs).  I cannot make any money doing this.  My pay has been cut approximately $150 to $200 every two weeks.  They have already taken away the incentives, and now if you screw up a couple of times on demographics, you do not get paid for the job, and the third or fourth time you are pulled from the account.  I am just so frustrated.  This VR is killing me.  It takes more time to make corrections.  It is frustrati ...

Companies Using XP
Apr 29, 2011

Periodically, I will cruise the MT help wanted, and see some companies that list the system requirements as "must have XP."  My question is this:  I wonder if they mean must have at least XP or do they mean MUST HAVE XP.  I find it difficult to believe that any system out there only works with XP, as Vista has been around for a good long while and even Windows 7 (which I wish DocQ would update to) has been out for a bit.  I mean, it would be very difficult to find a computer ...
