Hi from Australia on Australia Day. Only new at this MT at home business. Struggling to get my line count up. In all honesty it would take a few months to add in enough shortcuts to make it worthwhile. I have been racking my brain over how to get those two spaces at the end of a sentence for free. Finally it has come to me. We all need to do an autotext incorporaing the last letter of a sentence and the first letter of the following sentence ie I saw Liz today. She was suffering from etc .... Would it work if we coded in an autotext for eadh letter of the alphabet then a fullstop and start the next sentence with [field code]. I guess that means it would only be one free character for each sentence. There would be numerous sentence in each document. It would add up. Has anyone got any other ideas.

I think that's not a bad idea if you're used to typing only 1 space. - sm

I'm so used to typing 2 that such a set-up would be useless for me, though. Actually, if I were ever required to type just 1, I'd have to make a macro to go through and delete my all my second spaces, no way could I change doing it automatically after all these years.

I just posted on the main board regarding this, and everybody swore up and down they did not type 2 spaces just to pad lines.

Quite frankly, I pay my transcriptionists extra not to do just this. I have better things to do with my time than remove spaces.

Curious if all your fonts are proportional and not monospace then? - 2-spacer, not free spacer

I couldn't wade through all that thread since very few (including AAMT/AHDI, apparently) seem to realize it really has to do with font type. I've never been told to type only 1 space (but would remove extra if I had to), mainly because most (or all?) of the accounts I've worked on print out in monospaced Courier, where 2 spaces would be necessary (which font I think is pretty standard for medical records; see link for info by another poster in the past). Using proportional fonts makes for a hideous mess if there happens to be any lining up of data/tables, etc. The platforms I've worked in usually display Times New Roman on my screen, but that has nothing to do with what's printing out at the facility.

Like I said, out of curiosity, what font/s are your reports printing out in? Doctors' offices or hospitals? Has there been a change (recent or not) to proportional for your clients?

Just curious, I'm trying to decide between a few companies and I totally forgot to ask the interviewer. I think the whole VBC thing is criminal. It's bad enough not being paid for all of the research, demographics and CCs we do, but to not pay for characters that we actually type just because they don't print out in black and white is OUTRAGEOUS!!! ...

Hey everyone, Just curious about this... I just got a report back from my QA at work, and she dinged me for writing "End stage renal disease" instead of "Endstage renal disease."
