8 CPL w/o spaces - MTer

If you're referring to a 65-character line, it's basically 6.5 cpl WITH spaces.
8 cpl w/o spaces - MT

This probably equals 5 or 6 cpl with spaces and it is ridiculous and insulting to professional MTs!
I have always made 10 cpl. SM - No Name

I would always have a secondary account that paid 8 to 8.5 cpl as backup. The account I was most recently on has went to EMR and has completely dried up. I have to make money. We are pretty much starving over here. I have applied for assistance... but have not gotten far. It seems they cant grip the idea of IC status and reqeuest the craziest information. I keep providing them with the information requested, but they keep asking for more...
I have taken on work now at 7-7.5 cpl, working a LOT more and making a LOT less. I have applied for office jobs to no avail. I just don't even know where to go from here. I am in survival mode. My best paying job right now is 8 cpl but there is hardly any work available. My other job is 7.5 cpl with lots of work.. and so that is where I am right now. Yes, its insulting!!! But it's not just the MT business.. It's everywhere and it will continue to get worse I believe. Its a sad, sad world out there.
I think the best policy is to not work for any company - that doesnt pay for spaces! n/m

The State of Transcription - Looking4Work

I am sorry to hear of your difficult times. I personally think that the business is dying. As far as I know, there are no more high paying jobs with bonuses or incentives. Voice recognition has killed it for us. It is sad. We used to have high demand skills but now that does not mean the same anymore. Good luck in your quest for a better paying job.
Sad state of MT - underpaid

I think that it's a combination of VR/ASR, EMR, and also trying to compete with offshoring. But the biggest problem is that while these companies decrease our pay, they still WANT the MTs with extensive knowledge and experience. You just can't do MT work unless you have a very specialized and indepth knowledge base. Because an MT is not just a "typist" or "editor" or "data entry clerk." Yes, we do type, but we need to have that specialized knowledge in order to produce a correct medical report.
These companies that are reducing pay to 3 or 4 cpl for VR/ASR is just pure greed, more profit for them at the expense of the MT. And reducing transcription rates to 7 or 8 cpl is so they can compete with the offshore MTs who only make 2 or 3 cpl. But, 2 or 3 cpl in another country is a GOOD wage. Here in the US that won't even pay my monthly utility bills, let alone the mortgage or rent.
Keep looking for those companies who pay more than 4 and 8 cpl. They are out there. Because there are at least a few MT companies who realize that they have to pay their MTs at least a living wage. And those companies who don't will end up gradually destroying their own companies because they won't be able to find and maintain the MTs who have the experience to do the work right. When you give your clients poor quality, you eventually lose them. And you can't give your clients good quality unless you have the MTs who can produce quality work.
There are many MTs like me who will not work just to be working. My skills and my knowledge are worth more than 4 and 8 cpl.

Free Spaces Jan 26, 2013Hi from Australia on Australia Day. Only new at this MT at home business. Struggling to get my line count up. In all honesty it would take a few months to add in enough shortcuts to make it worthwhile. I have been racking my brain over how to get those two spaces at the end of a sentence for free. Stages And Spaces Mar 10, 2015Hey everyone,
Just curious about this... I just got a report back from my QA at work, and she dinged me for writing "End stage renal disease" instead of "Endstage renal disease." Now, someone correct me if I am wrong, but those are 2 separate words and should not be together like that, I dont think.
