IE9 & Firefox - Rose

Posted: Oct 05, 2012

I tried to test for TransTech, but my IE 9 isn't compatible with their test. IE 8 is and so is Firefox. Is it true that once you've installed IE 9 you can't go back to IE 8? Can I install Firefox, use it just for the test, then delete without causing any technical problems such as erasing duplicate files, etc? (I get frequent messages that I'm running out of space). Thanks for any suggestions!

It is true that once you install IE 9 you cannot go back, I don't think IE 8 is compatible with Windows 7. I have both IE 9 and Firefox on my computer and it causes no problem. Firefox can be there but it doesn't have to be your default browser, there is really no need to remove it. If you choose to do so it shouldn't cause problems. If you are getting messages that you're running out of space, your computer may need more RAM. I used Firefox to test but had to install Apple Quick Time. My foot pedal wouldn't work so I had to use the keyboard commands. I hope this wasn't too confusing, that was my experience.

Once you have turned off IE9 (how to turn it off here: http://www.fencepost.net/2012/03/removing-ie9-from-windows-7-and-keeping-it-off/), you can always install IE8 for WinXP and tell your Win7 to run it in XP compatibility mode.

Thanks so much to both of you! - Rose

Rolling back IE9 to IE8 - anon

Yes, you can roll IE9 to IE8 on Windows 7 and it is actually quite simple. Go to your control panel add/remove programs and on the left, you will see "view installed features." Open that up and scroll down to IE 9, uninstall it. Restart your computer and you have IE 8. I have Windows 7 64-bit and this is how I was told to do it and it works.

IE For Firefox And What A Difference In Speed!
Nov 18, 2012

On both my Win XP and Vista computers I had tremendous slow downs and freezes while using Internet Explorer. In checking the Task Manager/Processes it showed several iexplore.exe files running and getting bigger, up to 500,000K. By shutting down the biggerst one I had immediate improvement in speed, but sometimes this would shut down the Internet connection. I was constantly having to shut down one of these files. I switched to Firefox and what a huge improvement! It consistently runs on about 1 ...
