Foot Pedal and Express Scribe - ella

I have had a VEC Infinity foot pedal for over 10 years. Have used it with no problems whatsoever on Express Scribe and many other transcription platforms. My computer (Windows XP) crashed and had to get a new computer (Windows 8). My foot pedal wouldn't work on Express Scribe anymore (but works fine on Emdat platform). I thought it was because I was using the free version of Express Scribe, so I went ahead and paid the money to buy the full version of Express Scribe. My foot pedal STILL won't work. Getting aggravated beyond belief.

Any tips/pointers greatly appreciated. And if you know of another software I can use on Windows 8, I'd love to hear about it.

If not, I can log back on my computer and get back to you w/specifics on how to do it. The same thing happened to me when I switched from XP.

It could possibly be that the ES software doesn't support Windows 8 (drivers, etc). I have Windows 7, so I am sorry that I could not be of further help. Since it is a new computer, you may want to check with Microsoft and see if you can uninstall 8 and replace it with 7. I know when I purchased my computer almost three years ago, it came installed with Home Premium and MS upgraded me to the Professional version for no charge.

Just because your foot pedal works with one program, doesn't necessarily mean that it will work with another. There may be driver files -- .dll files that need to be installed for ES to work with Windows 8. Please bear in mind that a LOT of programs were designed for XP and oftentimes, software people do not keep up with that kind of thing. Again, possibly check with Microsoft to see if you could have your computer rolled back to Windows 7.

Click on Help in Express Scribe and go to the Technical Support page where it has instructions for setting up foot pedal. I have Windows 8 and my Infinity foot pedal works with it, though I did have problems at first.

You probably need to download the True Speech codec. Just search True Speech Codec or TSP. It's a free download. Make sure to reboot after downloading.

I went into options and all the settings seem to be in the hundreds and described as (ms). Not familiar with that at all. I always set my pedal to seconds. My rewind is extremely slow and when I take my foot off the pedal and then on again I need it to rewind a few seconds so as to not miss anything. I have a pedal that I used with Express Scribe about 5 years ago. It says IN-BMG on the bottom. I have voice files sent to me that I cannot play in Windows Media or Express Scribe. They will load in ES but show 00:00 duration. I thought possibly it was an encryption error as they possibly they are coming that way to be because they are secure but I sent to a friend and she can open them and play them. Hi, I bought ES Pro in 2012 and have not had any problems with playing dictation. I also have DSS to WAV to convert files. I converted a DS2 file to WAV but a message pops up that I'm using a "demo trial version for evaluation use only" and I now need to purchase an upgrade. Ugh!!!
