Express Scribe will not let me open any Word file - Tammy

I recently downloaded Express Scribe from my community college's website. After downloading, I tried to open up the syllabus for a particular course and a warning came up that I had to have another type of program for this action. I think the program was Doxillion which I am assuming is some type of file converter. I don't need a file converter program. I am taking a transcription course and I need to to be able to open up Word files. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times and I have even restored my computer. However, I am still unable to open up any Word files after I redownload Express Scribe to my computer. Please help!

You need Word or a Word alternative to open a Word file. - ES is an audio program.

I recommend Open Office as a good free alternative if you don't have Word, which apparently you don't.

It has nothing to do with Word. If you don't have an MS Word CD to download, you can use Open Office. Go to the Open Office site and download the word processing component. That will allow you to open Word documents.

In response to the answers given, I do have Word. I am also in a transcription class which is why I need Express Scribe. When I attempt to open any file that is in Word a pop up comes up telling me I need to run another program (Doxillion) to do it and I know I should not have to do that.

Anyway, it looks like Doxillion (which is by the same company as Express Scribe, so it must have downloaded in tandem when you downloaded ES) has reassociated the default program for your .doc files. Try instructions at the link below. (They forget to say to check the "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" box after "Choose Program" and before clicking "Okay.")

I'd also go to Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, and see if you can get rid of Doxillion there.

Strange, Doxillion doesn't show up in the approx. 5 "Related programs" when I just did a quick test install of ES (I didn't finish all the way because I don't want to overwrite my current version of it). Maybe your school has a special link with a different version. You never saw an option when installing that would let you uncheck a box for Doxillion?

Hi all, I am trying to test today and having trouble. When I open the MTSO's dictation file it automatically opens the Windows Medial Player Window. I tried dragging it into Express Scribe, but it will not load into it that way. I cannot see anywhere that I could save it and drag it or load it. Hi! I currently use Express Scribe for my dications with a USB universal pedal and need to change the file format to read .ra or .rma (Real Audio) files. any trouble with Word not responding. This happened to me a couple months ago, Geek Squad saw nothing wrong, it stopped happening and then today it happened 3 times within an hour. Unfortunately I have to terminate the program, lose my work, reboot the system (or it will be extremely sluggish) and then it works fine. I have voice files sent to me that I cannot play in Windows Media or Express Scribe. They will load in ES but show 00:00 duration. I thought possibly it was an encryption error as they possibly they are coming that way to be because they are secure but I sent to a friend and she can open them and play them. Hi, I bought ES Pro in 2012 and have not had any problems with playing dictation. I also have DSS to WAV to convert files. I converted a DS2 file to WAV but a message pops up that I'm using a "demo trial version for evaluation use only" and I now need to purchase an upgrade. Ugh!!! I have just started having trouble with Express Scribe. Regardless of whether I am using the foot pedal or the function keys, it is as if the program does not recognize what I am doing. Sometimes it takes multiple presses of the stop button or taps on the footpedal to get the dictation to stop. Sometimes when I press reverse on the footpedal I end up playing or fast forwarding.
