EMDAT? - MTjt

Any opinions on this platform welcome. I searched and found some older posts, but not sure if the platfor has improved. Thanks for your help!

Between the updates and the downtime it can drive you nuts. Plus there's so much that it's behind on when other programs are up to date and are more functional.

and was just wondering. I've used DocQScribe and some Word-based platforms and was just wondering how difficult a platform could really be?

The particular MTSO had you check about 10 things before even starting the report, opening up this window or that to verify, then correcting/changing anything that was incorrect, took about 5 mins before you even got to the report. I cannot afford that kind of downtime. It is was something simple that took a minute then fine, but as MTs the demographics should not be our problem.

I got a job that had EMDAT. I think I lasted 2 days. Really hated it. Just too much garbage you had to go through before even starting to work on the report. Start/Stop drove me mad too, just not what I am used to. I have only worked on a few platforms but really prefer the ones where you don't have to mess with the demographics and work types, making sure everything is right, fixing what isn't. No clue if it has improved though, all I can say is I really hated it and will never take a job that used EMDAT every again.

Because I don't really understand when people complain about it. It's pretty much like any and every other program I've used. I log on, push the pedal, type. There are a couple things I don't like as far as formatting that require using the mouse rather than keystrokes, but other than that I have not had a lot of problem with demographics, work types, or anything else.

I read the other posts that said they did not like the platform, but I prefer working on Emdat.

In my experience, using a newer computer is better with Emdat than an older one. I do not have downtime with it, but did have issues sometimes on my older computer last year. Those resolved with the new computer.

Most of the functions can be used with keystrokes. There are a couple that need use of the mouse. You can buy a special Emdat foot pedal, but it is not necessary. I use the same foot pedal now that I used when I was working on Bayscribe and other platforms.

Emdat can be harder with some clients...it depends on how accurate the demographics are that were entered by the doctor. If you are on a fairly good account, it really is not any worse than other platforms.

You can run spellcheck through MS-Word, which is much better than Emdat's spellcheck. You can print out your line count at any time. The QA feedback is great.

The thing that I had to watch out for the most until recently was that Shorthand works in Emdat, but is not 100% compatible. You need for your expansions to finish playing out before going further into the report, or you could end up with an incorrect phrase. Lately with the newer versions, that has been less of a problem. If you go really, really fast, it is something to keep in mind, though.

I work for 2 different companies on this platform. It has been getting a lot of attention world wide and more and more companies are using it, so you could expect to see more hiring for this platform.

Would somebody be willing to tell me a little bit about EMDAT? I have never used the software and from what I've heard, it is very simple and productive. I find it to be just the opposite. Is dictation completed using a foot pedal or is it geared for keyboard controls only? Is word-expander software utilizable with EMDAT. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am currently using EMDAT as my platform. My company recently upgraded from 4.95 to 4.96. I keep getting a Microsoft error every time I try to upgrade. I called EMDAT, and they told me it was because I use a broadband Satellite internet connection??? They can't help me. Now what? Is it possible to take my PC to my friend's place where she has a different internet connection (cable) and upgrade from there? I need this done ASAP for work. Thanks for your help! ...

I just started a job using Emdat Inscribe, and my footpedal I ordered hasn't come in yet, so I have been using the function keys to play audio. I have been doing this for about a week now with no problem, but today I log in to work though and the keys are no longer working. The only way I can get the audio to play is by using the mouse. I'm confused. I interviewed for an IC position for what they said is an Emdat company. But looking online, Emdat is a platform, not an MT company. Can someone please clarify? The rates are really low for an IC and they don't pay for characters that are in normals. Hopefully leaving Nuance this week! Going to a company with Emdat as an IC. I have to pretty much train myself on this (as I expected, being an IC) and so far it seems very similar to the older BeyondTXT. A lot of the keyboard commands are the same as BeyondTXT before we were switched to the newer (worse) eBeyondTXT. Can anyone tell me how user friendly it ends up being? ...
