could somebody please explain - blanks protocol

What counts against us and what does not count against us. They are trying to say that a ï»¿ï»¿legitimate blank does not count against us and speakers that are on autopend are not to count against us either. However, what do they mean by a legitimate blank. I blank if I can't understand/hear what is being said or a ï»¿discrepancy in the dictation. However, my account is on a 2 blank restriction...each dictation 2 more or blanks has to be pended for blanks. This is a H account I work on and therefore there are a lot of blanks on a typical 10+ minute dictation. So whats the difference of a legitimate blank or a not legit blank? Can anybody explain?

I didn't know that it was really a restriction. I know I have those accounts as a secondary so I don't type them often but know that you have to pend if it is more than 2 but I didn't think it was held against us. You really need to check your FIESA to see if they are marking you off for leaving blanks. They aren't supposed to and I have never been marked off for it and I have had to leave more than 2 blanks plenty of times

I work on the WMX side of Nuance. We were never marked off for blanks before, but when we transitioned to Nuance they added a category to our reviews that is for blanks that were easy to fill in by QA. I think the idea is to penalize you for not taking the time to research. It is a very gray area, and I don't know how they determine whether a blank was easy to fill in or not. If you send more than 15% of your reports to IQA for blanks, you will be penalized by not being eligible for the incentive as well as if you are marked off for blanks on your review you could have an accuracy of less than 99% and also not be eligible for incentive.

I was marked off on my FIESA for leaving blanks by 2 different QA/QC and when I said something to my head QC person she said that was incorrect and had them reversed. She said you should never be marked off for leaving a blank. Yes it might count against incentive if you leave a certain percentage of blanks but they should not be marked off for. If they are = complain mine were reversed

On the dictations that I have a lot of blanks b/c the tape is cutting out or they are just that bad that you can't hear what they are saying, no matter how you adjust the speed or volume of the tape, those dictations never show up in my Fiesa. Only on my time sheet, I will see the percentage of what I had to pend. TL said if you can't understand you need to leave a blank, but be aware that the more you blank and pend, the more it goes against you. Its not a fair process, if the speaker is bad and you have a string of that speaker with multiple blanks and QA can't fill it in...it still goes against you. Its very frustrating. I am only as good as what the speakers can actually SPEAK.

I know what you mean - I can have one day where my speakers are great and I just sail along and then the next day it starts off and goes downhill with horrible dictators and you have to leave blanks and it affects everything from my lines per hour to incentive etc. besides just being so frustrating and we are to blame for it all somehow

Anytime you pend for blank or anything at all, you are penalized. Love the emails that say you pended over 15% for this pay period. Well no S...have the speakers can't even speak with half the audio cutting in and out. I guess I should just guess. Then was told that the VR will learn if we just correct the VR correctly. Well yes I sit here and try to make my job harder than what it is on these chump change wages we are paid. Ugh. So frustrating. You are right...it always seems to come down to anything that happens is the MTs fault. I even specifically stated to those in charge of the account, how about they hold some accountability on those who are speaking the dictations. Of course no response back from that. I just want a new job.

If an account has been offshore for almost 1 year and is being transcribed by an offshore MT and qa'd by 2 separate offshore qa and then 1 American qa.......where are they actually saving money? How long does the Q need to pay 4+ (the person who audits them too) to do 1 report before they realize their American MTs could get it done in 1 shot and maybe 2 on occasion? Okay, so if you go below mininum wage, the company has to "pay extra" to bring your paycheck up to minimum wage, because BY LAW they have to pay at least minimum wage. Why is it that I can only work 28 hours as a part timer, but full time people are able to get OT, no limit. I don't take insurance, don't want it, but there is no darn reason I can't work as many hours as I want also. This is ridiculous. why some MTs make it their business what every other MT is doing during their work day. I work directly for a hospital and we are given the capability to look at the jobs that are on the system waiting to be transcribed and we are allowed to assign jobs, change the priority of a job, etc. The reason we are given this capability is because those working in the hospital, nurses, doctors, HIM staff, etc. have our phone numbers and if they need a report they can call us at home. Every week on certain days there is no work so I am having to flex flex flex PTO PTO until all used up, etc. I have read of some of you getting minimum wage due to OOW, can someone tell me how to achieve that?
