The Dangling Carrot - Amanda

Posted: Feb 18, 2013

Anyone else experience this?

I might have several really crappy dictators in my cue and then one great one (either very clear or always uses a long normal).  Used to be the good doctors were used as an incentive for working through the garbage.  Now, after having typed all the crap, I get to the good doctor and it's scratched from my list (even though there may be older jobs of the same work type still sitting in my cue).

If Nuance doesn't know it, I'm here to set them straight.  I am NOT a rabbit!

I think they send the "easy" stuff to India and stick us with the hard stuff.

And they also... - Amanda

I also think they use us to "train" the VR on the hard dictators and then once they get nice and clean they ship those offshore and stick us with a batch of new crap to train.

There are some very good physicians I haven't typed in a loooong time, yet a Google search confirms they still work at that particular hospital.

Can't wait 'til I quit. I'm going out with a bang, though I dare not say what that will be.

What is the platform? - anon

One of their platforms is very easy to cherry-pick from. Even when they were still on the hospital's platform during transition, the cherries were doled out to favorites.

Cherry Picking is right - Amanda

You're right about the cherry picking for particular MTs. I slog through a crap of reports all through my shift and then several hours outside my shift I log on to see what the work looks like. Long list of good doctors. I also do this on my days off.

Sure, some of this is to be expected as doctors work different shifts, but I can't overlook the fact that some of the doctors are ones I used to type but no more.

But I don't sweat it too hard. I'll certainly have the last word when I quit, and it won't be to Nuance either.

Easy work to India - agree

I think you hit the nail right on the head. I too get stuck with all the crap dictation while all the easy jobs are no longer even available. I also notice that the crap dictation that happens to slip through to India magically reappear. Sending untranscribed jobs back is supposed to be a big no no. Guess that just includes the US MLS. Whenever I see a particularly difficult job returned, I mumble to myself, bunch of wimps!

What I often see is a big chunk of ophtho surgeries, all with normals--sm - anon

I work through a bunch of reports ahead of them, and then boom, that large chunk of easy surgeries disappears. I think what is happening to me is that there are some MTs who only do ops so that get to pull ops from different pools while others of us are stuck with the H and Ps,DS,consults, etc. that take more time and make less line wise. I am of the opininion that if we all make the same line rate, we should all be responsible for the same type of reports and dictators.

Maybe - Amanda

That's what I'm talking about. They put those charts in front of you because you know they contain normals. They make you chase them, hoping to catch a little break, but once you work through all the garbage they pull those jobs away.

I've seen jobs in my cue disappear and then later reappear. If you don't realize someone is manipulating the work (manipulating us), you aren't paying close enough attention.

The game is rigged.

I know for a FACT that some MTs can cherry pick at Nuance. One of them showed me how she does it and has permission to do it.

That is blatantly unfair.

Nuance is the worst place I have ever worked.

I totally agree with you. This happens to me - all the time NM

They have the pools - SM

set up so that you will get reports by dictator. That way, if the dictator really stinks, you will be stuck with a string of them in a row. I complained to no avail about this before I quit. They don't have the queue set up by time of dictation but by dictator. I have never been able to figure out why it is they think that works, but as I've said before, they should just get out of the business. They don't know what they're doing.

But they also have CERTAIN MTs that can choose their own work in Editscript. That means, if they don't like a speaker, they can get rid of him/her and do all the easy ones. I know this for a fact because a worker SHOWED me that she can choose her own work.

"CARROT ON A STICK"
Mar 01, 2010

My employer has started resorting to the carrot-on-a-stick game to try to squeeze more work out of us when TATs get behind.  One "carrot" is so-called "premium" pay for working extra hours on the weekend.  Two catches:  Your week's total still has to add up to 40 hours, and you don't get the "premium" cpl until you've already done your day's minimum lines.  Oh wait, there's a third catch:  Most of the work is the worst of the worst ESLs, their tr ...
