So the doctors are upset about the blanks being left in reports? Well, you get what you pay for. I'M upset about the crappy wage you pay for VR. And don't forget the extras we have to do that we are NOT paid for. Increase our wages and that will decrease the blanks.
I don't spend a lot of time researching anymore, cuts down on my pay. Besides, I spent all of last year doing it the "right" way and my income suffered for it. I made 1/2 of what I made the previous year at a straight typing job.
That was a wakeup call. This week, I have been dinged twice but I have made over $500. Works for me - :)

I am allowed 3 blanks per report and I use them or more (I lost my bonus this quarter so I could care less if I submit dozens of jobs to QC every day).

That's why I dont even have time to look at their crappy newsletter.
I just do the work, get dinged, make incentive or not, and log off.
I'm already wasting way too much time looking up stuff. I have started just leaving blanks too.

I don't research blanks unless I to over the maximum allowed for the client. If their claims are true in the newsletter that clients are fussing about blanks then I figure the clients will either change their rules of how many blanks they want or they're really fussing at QA if they're unable to fill in the mushmouth make-up words dictators. We don't get paid to research every blank there is to try to fill it in and you can always say "I wasn't sure it sounded like that and you ding us if we think it's what someone put on a prior report and it was wrong." I'm sure we've all seen errors in prior reports that were on the system so it's not like those are "gospel correct."

Also, I think if QA cannot fill in our blanks, we should not be penalized for those in our percentage to QA. I would like to see a breakdown of how many of my blanks they do complete. From viewing Versions, it looks like not many.

I have received my 5th(? lost count) MUP notice in about 3 months and have no choice but to stop spending time on blanks. Shame, too, because research is what I find most fun about the job. I still want to do my best for an accurate record, but blanks are the safest and fastest way to go. High QA/QC submissions affecting my bonus no longer matter to me. My QA/QC rate is already kind of high thanks to so many dictator errors (cc to Dr. CommonLastNameOnly; garbled cell phone dictation; and my favorite from last week, potassium of "one hundred twenty-nine" (not sodium or glucose because they were dictated properly). Sure, I *could* take time to look up other reports, but as you pointed out, there could be errors there, so why chance it?

Penalizing the MT for a blank regardless of the reason is so unjust. Bad audio, background noise, sloppy dictation and we pay the price. This industry has gone to hell in a handcart!

Even if I could supposedly confirm it by prior reports, etc., no way for me to really confirm it without dictator saying it. Yeah, time-waster to create a new contact, but less so than checking past reports or Google, etc.

the QCs. That's because QC is supposed to fill the blanks (if they are fillable). That's one of the things they get paid for. They are the ones with the vast knowledge and the superior motivation/work ethic/skill. But I am sure that QCs leave more blanks than they would like to in instances where they "know" what the right word is, but QA will disagree with any ambiguous situation, and the company will back up QA, even over the QCs!
So basically, you have company policies that set up rewards/punishments in such a way that it sets each working group against each other, tearing each other's throats out! Way to go Nuance! Way to build up the team!!

I may get people getting onto me for this but most of the time on my account I give a blank because the doctor is sloppy, either not saying a word which exists (made up words b/c of lack of knowledge or just plain stupid), horribly wrong drug dosages (could kill the patient), cell phone, feeding infant child or keeping children busy while dictating, just bad dictating habits and overall poor quality.
Why do we get in trouble (off on QA, no bonus) for sending in blanks when these things are not even humanly possible to be filled in (even by the original doctor). Why don't these dictators get into trouble?
It has gotten to the point at least at nuance that we are the punching bags for bad doctors who refuse to take responsibility and I refuse to think anything else, at least by my experience on my account. Shame on those horrible doctors who are so sloppy that we have to be their punching bags!!!

Dictators make a mistake - they send the MT to the whipping post - every time.
What I especially love are those group MT beat downs, where they run errors made up the flag pole like dirty underware and kick us all in the head for it about "too many errors."
Instead of a bogus incentive bonus, I'd really just like a can of salve for the whip marks on my back.

The situation with the bonus and insane QA/QC forces us to leave blanks. We are not allowed to use our brains and our knowledge to fix grammar problems.
I will leave a blank if I can't tell between the doc saying "a" or "the" or a tiny insignificant word, because if I just chose one because either would work, QA will ding me for a major 1.0 error.
When you are giving major errors for noncritical subjective things, you are forcing us to leave blanks.

This is the situation they have created with bad policy, bad management, and poor thinking skills. There is no reason to get dinged for "a" instead of "the". This is a tactic they use deliberately to decrease pay and withhold bonuses - now they don't like how this plays out in real life? Why don't they just pull their heads out of their butts?
Too bad they don't spend the same amount of time educating dictators as they do on newsletters. It certainly doesn't do Nuance any good to blame its own employees for client dissatisfaction! It makes them look like a bunch of stupid idiots.
