No shows - just me

My TSM is fired up today cuz lots and lots of no shows for shifts and nearly every account is out of TAT.    Why does this surprise her with the news that we received last week?   It was hard enough, and then they make it even harder to make a near poverty living.

no shows are because people have decided to leave. This VR, 4 cpl buisness is for the birds.

If the no shows are because people are quitting, I say serves them right (Nuance that is). The hospitals are greedy, the MTSOs are greedy and the MTs are severely underpaid.

Many MTs feel as if they are not treated with professional respect and dignity but many MTs are also not willing to act in a responsible, dignified way. A rather vicious cycle.

many, many MTs act unprofessional and only show up for their shifts when they want to or fail to notify that they are indeed quitting and become a no-show. I think this cycle is fed by the behaviors of both sides. Obviously, many MTs behave very professionally but they are hurt by the actions of those who do not.

company should provide me work on my shift and pay me fairly to do it. I work at Mmodal and there has been no work for months and I have to flex my schedule to get work, work is going to India left and right. I spend many hours at my computer to get peanuts for the garbage VR that does not learn. These companies are ripping people off and people need to stop taking it.

Professionals don't get paid 7 cpl per line or 3 cpl per line. Why would ANYONE show up for a job like this? Worse than minimum wage.

I am just sooo thankful that the Lord placed a job in front of me that helps me pay my bills,provide Christmas for my children, and keep my family off welfare. I am sooo thankful and praise the Lord every day. Things could be a LOT worse!

All working people have a lot to be thankful for, but would you call a fast food restaurant job a profession? They get paid approximately the same amount. Hospital cleaning people make more than transcriptionists too. All I am saying is this USED to be a PROFESSION, but at these wages it can no longer be called that.

to just not show up for work? I still have to live up to my standards of behavior for my own dignity, it has nothing to do with the company. The company also has contractural obligations to the hospitals regarding TAT and they will do what they have to meet them, including over-hiring, tweaking schedules, etc. Therefore, I likewise have an obligation to my co-workers to show up when I say I will to keep them from getting screwed by my selfish actions.

You said it all - be thankful we have jobs in this terrible economy! If you are unhappy with your job then leave. Those of us that like working at Nuance would be happy to take over your reports!
Profession versus Professionalism - PPB

I think some may have missed my point. Professionalism is not to be confused with Profession. Agreed we all must use good work ethic (Professionalism), but due to the low wages and work environment here, similar to sweatshops in India and China, etc., cannot really be classified anymore as a Profession. I think we all would concur that this is egregious and there is a large degree of disrespect for the MLS in a large MTSO.

Isn't that what they call it when the police collectively pull no-shows because they are fed up? We should all call in sick or no-show this week. Serves the greedy companies right. Show that what it is like when there is no paycheck coming in and see how they like it!

I truly feel that if we had somebody on our side fighting for and with us, then things would be different. Our pay wouldn't be cut constantly, our QA wouldn't suck, bonuses would be obtainable and the list could go on. However, there are many MTs that just don't want a union for whatever reason or there is a lot of talk from a lot of MTs that talk and are not willing to move forth with action. I personally cannot afford to strike for a week or however long it takes, I have a family to take care of. But in the same respect, I cannot afford to keep working in an industry where my pay is less than somebody that flips burgers or cleans a hotel room (no disrespect intended)...what I am saying is that I deserve to be compensated for my knowledge that I acquired in college, as well as my years of experience actually working in the field. Most people do not end up making less than what they started as a rookie, but I am. I am making a lot less than what I made directly out of college with my second medical field degree. There is a problem with that...MTs need a voice besides our own that are willing to fight for our contracts. The so called contract that we signed when we started working with this company has been null and void for a long time...why bother even making a contract for us to sign when they do not even honor it themselves. Its a shame to work 40 hours plus a week and still barely be making it.

By the way, where do we find the pay changes, etc in writing?

Remember the old saying "cut your nose off to spite your face"? Well that is what is happening here. They will simply either over-hire more or send more overseas to compensate and we will be running out of work more and more often. They aren't going to miss out on a nickel if they can help it. They will adjust their staffing situation and WE (as usual) will be the ones to suffer.

I just noticed today that my TL no longer shows up on my comagent.  I always keep it open on my desktop and can tell who is on and who isn't and her name is always there regardless of whether she is working or not and then today all of a sudden her name is gone.  Very strange.  Her email address still shows up though ...
