How do we know we are not being ripped off on editing? s/m - nuancemt

When I download a report and its editing, how do I know whatever is showing at that time compared to what I have to fix is what I am paid for? What if I have to add and subtract 3/4 of a report? Am I paid based on the end result? How do we really know?

I've always wondered if the lines you're paid for on a VR job are the lines the original report shows before any editing is done or for the total lines shown AFTER you've edited the report, and does it count any typing you have to do to make the report correct?

I would leave a lot of stuff as it comes out on the VR report if I don't get credit for any keystrokes I add, like adding punctuation where it's needed, etc. It could make a big difference in the line count if it deducts the words and characters you have to delete....stinks if you have to do extra keystrokes that actually take AWAY from your count! Well, VR just stinks either way--LOL.

The lines are calculated after the edit. If you want to make sure though, just check line count using word tool before you touch the report and then check the line count on your Alt+X for that job afterwards and compare.

However, a bigger problem, IMHO, is if you get a job come in that says it is an editing job and you end up having to type half or more, you are getting paid at the editing rate, not the typing rate.

I had a report, clicked on Word Tool but don't see where I can get a line count.

When you are in the document, click on tools, then word count. Then you have to do some math. Divide characters with spaces by 65, this gives you the line count.

I just did mine and EditScript had 2 lines more than when I did the tool/math thing.

I resigned from MModal a week ago, June 23rd and received my final paycheck deposit yesterday. It was over $100 short! I understand that everything is going to the way of the editor and not typing, but when the editor keeps missing whole sentences or makes up words that sound nothing like the doctor is saying, how is one supposed to make any money? I only get paid .04 per line to edit and I am spening more time trying to fix editing mistakes than I would if I just erase the text and type it out. Very frustrating. I work for a company that uses M*Modal for VR and all the reports have SO much editing. There are complete words missing, words added that clearly aren't being dictated, at least 2 words on each line that have to be edited. So, last week the system went down right as I was finishing up an extremely long job. When it finally came back up, there was another glitch and before I could hit "recover", the job sent to the hospital as I originally got it with no editing whatsoever! I am new to Escript, as well as VR editing. I find it to be VERY time consuming and crappy pay at $0.04. That being said, I am lucky to make $10 an hour, if that. I work with the eScription platform and I have no problem with editing - I really enjoy giving my fingers and wrists a break, but I have the worst time concentrating when I'm doing it, LOL. I can fly through reports when I'm focused. My line counts are great for an hour and then drop off...pick back up...then drop off again. Everyone working on the BeyondTXT platform with Transcend just received an email from our editing trainer explaining to us how VR software only has to be 75% correct and we have to fix it to be perfect as if we were typing it. When they say VR editing is 4 cents a line, do they mean payment just for the specific lines that are edited, or for the whole report? For instance, if a report is 40 lines long, but 5 lines need to be changed, do you get paid for the entire report, or just those 5 lines? ...

Just wandering if there are any employee positions that aren't just editing out there. I feel like I am not growing as an MT doing nothing but editing.
