My particular little swallowed-up branch of Nuance is provided replacement foot pedals, specificially Infinity USB ones. I see some new employees need to have their own foot pedals. Amazing to me that Nuance provides anything, considering what they've taken away from us, but as per usual it comes with a catch.
My problem is usually these things last me at least a year or so, lately they have been breaking within months, and every single time I need to contact tech and go through this ridiculous charade whereby they assume I'm an idiot, tell me to plug it into another USB port, then proclaim, voila, it's working again!
So then I have to beg my TSM to send me one anyway, which she does authorize usually, but I am beginning to wonder - is it me or what?
So basically I am going to order my own one now. I wonder if they are refurbishing old ones or something, badly?
Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. There is nothing worse than having a foot pedal that does not stop when you take your foot off the pedal, especially ruled as we are by line counts and QA. There is no patience for anything in this profession anymore, it's all on us when things like this happen. While the foot pedals usually arrive pretty quickly, it still means I am unable to work for a day or so when I never have any PTO anymore and desperately need the money.
Maybe I am just too hard on these pedals. I find the Infinity ones kind of junky anyway, usually the springs are not too good - this latest one seems to have less room for dust to get in, but it is doing the same thing my last failure did, which is not stopping when I lift my foot off of it. I am too scared another brand might not match with the software or might also be junky, so I am just getting an Infinity one.
If anyone knows of another kind of foot pedal that works (I am on Enterprise) and/or is having similar problems with the pedal, I would appreciate your thoughts.
