A box under a bridge? - Esprit

Posted: Jun 09, 2014

Is it really coming down to living in a box under a bridge with this job skill?  I'm certainly headed that way.  Am I alone?  I don't know how any MT who is single can make it at 4 cpl.  How is this company able to get away with paying such low wages while demanding 99% perfection, and a 200 lines per hour? With no pension and no possibility of retirement hopelessness is my middle name.

You are not alone. - Same situation here.

I'm trying desperately to figure out my next step.

I've lost it all. My son is trying to come to my rescue and my financial woes are dragging him down. It's just unacceptable that a skill such as this is paid on the level of people with no skills. I wish you the very best.

Same here...making LESS than minimum wage - Depressed

and about to lose everything.

Losing it all - Esprit

I've already lost everything. It's just unimaginable that a company this size gets away with paying its employees on such a scale that we lose all we own and can't even pay for our basic needs. Is it this industry or is this where all of America is headed?

Nuance forced me to swallow my pride and go to - food pantries

I certainly feel out of place but am grateful for the whole chickens and fresh produce.

Food rescue - Pollyanna

After all the red tape I was given food stamps but after 2 months it was taken away. Makes no sense. Nothing has changed financially except things are getting worse. Can any of us believe that the skills we have have ended a lot of us on government subsidies because our employer isn't paying fair wages?
Government cutting back on welfare benefits - while they make laws to protect corporations
[ In Reply To ..]
Corporations like Nuance gets tax benefits for shipping jobs offshore.
Is this because of the current administration - or just the way it will be now?
[ In Reply To ..]
NM
Tax benefits for corporations off shoring - have been in effect for awhile
[ In Reply To ..]
Cutbacks in welfare benefits are new.
Welfare benefits - Pollyanna
[ In Reply To ..]
It certainly seems to be welfare benefits are alive and well, especially to those in the country ILLEGALLY! Keep working - we have illegals to help support.
Welfare benefits are cut across the board - the cuts are not discriminatory
[ In Reply To ..]
I know nothing about welfare benefits for people in the country illegally. What do you know?
If you lived in a border city, you would know plenty. - Read up on it.
[ In Reply To ..]
It's everywhere. The tax dollars being spent on illegals are astounding. If you have no idea, you are in for a shock! Illegals also get free medical care.
Current regime - Pollyanna

America's demise is being hastened by this regime that's for sure. Will it ever be corrected - I highly doubt it!
But who is the "current regime" or "current administration?" - CuriousMT
[ In Reply To ..]
You have to be careful when you say "current regime" or "current administration," because while we have a democratic President, our congress is basically being run by republicans. So, while some things are able to be positively affected by one, they can be negatively impacted by the other. I'm not going to point fingers, as there are evils and perils on both sides, and until both sides can sit down without a chip on their shoulder and a refusal to cooperate (treating the other side like terrorists), then we will get nowhere.
Let's face facts. Politicians on both sides are corrupt - and liars.
[ In Reply To ..]
It is the nature of the job. They tell you what they think you want to hear and then point fingers at the other side when things go wrong. Politicians are glorified used car salesman.

Politicians will vote for special interests who have the money to contribute to their campaign fund and that is big business and corporations.

Do not be fooled that any one political party gives a rat's azz about the common voter like you and me.
The current "regime" had nothing to do with - allowing work to be shipped out of the country
[ In Reply To ..]
That began years ago and so did America's economic demise.

No it will never be corrected because the government is corrupt.
Hopefully the beginning of that end will be this fall. - sm

Check out the politics board, Pollyanna. You'll be in the minority, like I am, but it's nice to see fresh opinions.
Yes, please do - I wish you would
[ In Reply To ..]
I hardly think you would both in the minority since that is all that is ever on the politics board, right wingers congratulating each other and calling the president names.

But by all means, this kind of stuff is definitely for the politics board.
What is going to end this fall and why? - I am not following you.
[ In Reply To ..]
The politicians are going to reverse the economy and jobs will no longer be shipped offshore leaving the jobs here in the USA?

In my local community the people who were in tech support and have worked for years at a large company lost jobs to a Philippine call center. Called ebay for support and got an ESL who said they were located in the Philippines.

You think the politicians in the fall will reverse the law and force big business to keep American jobs in America or penalize by taxation those companies who do offshore our jobs?
No I'm not saying that. - SM

Getting a Republican majority in the House and Senate during the midterm elections in 2016 is a start to take back the country and stop with the socialist policies that are trademarks of this current administration.
You think the Republicans are going to fix the economy? - They are corrupt as Democrats
[ In Reply To ..]
Socialist policies? What are they as compared to previous and how does this affect the American economy? What is new that Republicans can fix?
This board is not the forum for a political discussion. - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
I would invite you to ask that very question over on the politics board.
I'm sorry, but this is silly. - nm

It should be reversed - tax benefits for STAYING in the US and not offshore!
But don't you see? - sarcasm alert
[ In Reply To ..]
They need to save that tax money so they can afford the 6-figure salaries of the higher-ups! And besides, didn't that recent MT Week e-mail (apparently we didn't rate a classy snail-mail card) from the Corporate Big Cheese telling us how wonderful we are suffice? Who needs a gift card or a raise!--we have those sappy sentiments to keep us goin'--NOT!!! Okay, I'm done blowing off steam now. Back to cog-in-the-friggin-wheel work!
