New Grad Medical Transcription - I worked hard .... - 1morenewbie
Posted: Aug 13, 2010
I am a recent graduate from medical transcription school. Yeah, I know, big whoop. Actually it was for me, since I was beginning to wonder if it was ever going to happen. Why did I do this? Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time and, like anyone else who has never tried it, I tought medical transcription would be a lot easier than it is. My I'm-So-Excited Factor: I have no stars in my eyes. I know it will be hard to find a job and if I do, I won't make much until I get a lot better. Even then, I have no delusions about earning an easy 6 figures in just a few hours at home. If anybody finds out how to do that, plaease let me know. Negativity Tolerance: Through the roof. For those of you who feel frustrated, unappreciated and poorly compensated, I know where you are coming from. I often felt the same in my first career as a part-time English instructor at a state university. I felt like the Rodney Dangerfield of the education world. Yeah, I griped at the workplace, even indulged in a few bitter rants. Maybe I shouldn't have done that in front of newer instructors who still dreamed of changing the world one student at a time, but sometimes, you need to vent. So if you need to blow your stack, you won't get any flack from me. So? So, I have decided to try being a little more positive in my later years (see above.) I worked hard to graduate from my school, so I'm just going to keep appllying, testing, practicing, and learning, and hope that someday I'll find a position that's a good fit for me and my employer. Thanks for allowing me to visit your forum.

Hey, you're me! I'm still a PT English instructor but have studied MT, done specialty tapes, passed the RMT exam, now looking for work. I did score an interview last week, so that makes me more hopeful. I'm sure if you keep plugging away and searching and honing your skills, you will find something.
Thanks - 1morenewbie

How Hard Will It Be To Return To Medical Transcription? Jun 17, 2010I'm not exactly new to the field, I transcribed clinic reports for 3 years. After I graduated from MT school (Andrews), I ended up taking a job with a local medical transcription business. Due to some health problems and also the owner subsequently running the business into the ground, I have been away from transcription for nearly a year. How hard will it be to find a job after a year away from the field? Do I have to start over as a new MT? Thanks. ...
Now Transcription Is Hard To Apply To Jan 22, 2011I went to their website where I tried to follow directions. They make it impossible. They ("Now Transcription") want you to fill out an application through "Accord Human Resources", then save it and email it to them along with your resume. But the application will not allow anyone to save it, or submit it anywhere as is. You basically waste your time filling it out just to find out nothing you filled out will be saved. And there's a huge glitch with the em ...

Medical Transcription At Home To Become A Medical Scribe? Jan 20, 2015Has anybody left medical transcription at home to become a medical scribe? I have an opportunity to do so but there aren't any scribes currently in my area and I don't know anyone who has worked as a scribe before. The scribe position starting pay is almost double what I make as an MT per hour so it is very tempting, I just don't know much about it. ...

Offshore Transcription Stories Wanted- Medical Malpractice Cases Related To Offshore Transcription M Oct 15, 2009A legal contact was inquiring about the connection of medical mistakes related to off-shored transcription mistakes. I have told him to review these boards and hopefully he will benefit from the information here.
While he did not discuss the exact case, I think that he will be able to use the off-shore transcription issue to his client's benefit or at least highlight that the provider in question does not have as rigorous control on processing records as other pr ...
Recent MT Grad. Oct 26, 2009I am a recent grad of Allied Medical School's MT program.
I am signed up for an AIM internship.
I am wondering about the long wait to get started working.
I am a Registered Dental Hygienist for 20 years, and my education
in this field completely prepared me for the "real" world of work
right after passing the Boards.
I am very disgruntled about my on-line MT training and now, seemingly, non-existent
internship.
Advise and stories appreciated.

MT Grad W/SUM Program Eight Yrs Ago Aug 11, 2010Eiight years ago I took a transcription course through a local school that offered the SUM program. It was intensive training for nine months and earned a certificate for completing the program. I went to work for a local hospital and transcribed doctor's dictation; which included ER, radiology, psych, and scope reports. Plus various reports that came accross overnight, I worked the 3-11 pm shift.

New Grad MT W/ IC Questions Jul 16, 2011Hello, MTs! I recently graduated in June with high honors (3.90 GPA) from EvCC's MT program. I just started to look for employment, but I am having a difficult time finding a company who will take a chance with me. I knew how hard it was going to be prior to school, but I didn't think it would be this hard. I worked my hardest thinking I might have a higher chance if I graduated with a high GPA. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case for me.
I have applied to 6 companies sin ...
Can A New Grad Pass The CCS, CPC? I Just Did Jan 08, 2012Someone just asked, so I'll answer. Yes, it is very possible. I graduated 1 1/2 years ago from Andrews School but then waited to take the exams (personal reasons).

I have NOT worked a single day as a coder. I am ...
