what equipment do I need to work at home? - sm

I currently work at Mmodal and looking elsewhere. I don't have any equipment of my own except for the computer. Is there anything specific I should buy now just in case I would find another job, such as a foot pedal, and I don't know what else. Also what is a wav pedal, is it the same as a regular foot pedal? I've also seen Infinity foot pedals, is that just the name brand? I'll probably also have to get more RAM for my computer, unless the company provides the computer. I guess this is positive thinking that I just might find another job. A few years ago, I interviewed, was hired and she asked about the foot pedal, how much RAM and I'm not sure what else, but I had none of the things she asked about, and I didn't get the job after that. I want to be prepared. Someone told me that some companies will tell me what I needed once I was hired and probably give me a few weeks to get it. I just want to be sure and prepared. Some companies are okay with windows 7 32/64 bit, some are not, most dont want Vista. The infinity footpedal is probably the most universal now, but some want the USB port some want the 9-pin, the RAM will be important. I guess it will depend on which company you go with, so dont invest too much yet.

I bought a laptop with window 7 but it was a 64 bit and they wanted a 32 bit and now it is not compatible with one of my accounts. So it even depends sometimes on what platform you are using.

So hard to tell what will be needed.

Biggest expense aside from computer is reference material - NM

There is no reason to buy material at all anymore. Everything you need to know you can find free.

Recently resigned from MQ and received the mailing labels to ship back their computer and monitor. However, per the letter, they don't require that you return the mouse, keyboard, and any other peripherals. It doesn't say you will be charged for them -- it just says they want the computer and monitor. Has anyone left MQ and kept the keyboard and mouse? ...

Hello, Can someone please tell me the best digital transcription machine to buy. I really do not know anything about digital transcribers. I am used to the cassette transcriber. Also, I heard there was a way to have a 1-800 number and the doctor can call that number and do the dictation over voicemail. Does that require any other software or equipment. Hey there all! Some community colleges offers a certificate program for Medical Stenoscriptionists, "Preparing medical records and reports using a stenograph machine" per 1 class catalog. Not finding a lot of info on it, just schools that office courses/certificates. Apparently the production of reports is similar to court reporting.
