What is the purpose of the pre-set headings to the left - and what happens if we do not use them

Posted: Oct 19, 2010

I do not like this..I like a FULL screen and I hate being distracted by stuff on the side.  What happens if there are left-over headings...or if we use our own?  Anybody?

Hit Control + H to get rid of them - Sunflower

From what I understand and I use that term loosely....they are used for reports where there is a mandatory standard. You would normally pull in the mandatory standard and then type under those mandatory headings.

Now, we are not supposed to pull in the mandatory standard and type as dictated.

Really, if you don't have to have the heading window up. Just hit Control + H and they will go away forever.

If you have an ASR report, you normally would pull in a mandatory standard, cut and paste. Now we do not have to cut and paste anymore because we do not have to pull in the mandatory standard. We just type as dictated and the system formats the report on the back end.

I hope that helps as that is all I know.

I have an account where I now get the instruction at the top to transcribe the headings in order that they are dictated. It is a verbatim account, adn before I did not change the mandatory headings in a standard, but what if now the dictated standard isn't in bold red, do we change it to one that matches something in the list of headings on the left? What about the mandatory standards we were using up until now? Are we now allowed to insert the dictated headings in-between the headings in a given mandatory standard now or are we supposed to put the headings at the end of the standard? I directed all this to my (new) supervisor and she only said that the headings are arranged in order on the client's end. That was it. Nothing else was explained. That 6.1 teaching video didn't go into those specifics either. Good ol' Catch-22. I'll probably get another painful slap on the wrist saying I should have known better when they send me a critical error.

Think simple - Sunflower

Do just what the instructions at the top say...transcribe headings in order dictated.

Apply these simple rules:
1. DO NOT PULL IN mandatory standard.
2. Transcribe headings in order dictated.

Just type or follow along with ASR. Think simple. You can hit Control + H and don't even worry about the headings to the left. Not sure why they are there anyway.

The bold headings are the preferred headings. If dictator gives a heading that is not on the list, type it anyway. Again, think simple and just transcribe the headings as dictated.

I was told to use the headings from - JAMT

the left window pane and to NOT use my expansions. Told that the headings in the left window pane would allow back-end formatting to put the headings where the client wants them, but that the headings from my expansions would not allow this back-end formatting even though they look the same. Told to put these headings in where they are dictated and the back-end formatting would arrange them where they need to be and we don't have to worry about rearranging headings. I have not had this headings window on reports that have standards yet, so don't how to handle those.

HEADINGS - Nature

I only get them on reports that must have certain headings. On my OP reports, there are standard headings that have to be in the report and are not to be removed. In the past, these reports were all straight typing, and you pulled in the standard OP headings. They had to be exactly as in the standard and left in even if not dictated. Unfortunately on this new 6.1 program, we now have the OPs as ASR, and I am skipping all over the report to get everything in place. Takes me twice as long to do the report. Yes, I have contacted my supervisor, but her initial answer was to use the headings on the left. I sent her another e-mail and told her it took me twice as long to do this, and people who do not regularly type this account would not know where the headings go, as some doctors dictate the headings out of sequence. What a mess.

OK, but I thought the whole purpose of - the headings was

[ In Reply To ..]
to type in the order dictated and BACK END FORMATTING would put it all in order.

I would type exactly like that and if the headings are not put in the order that the hospital wants, that would be the problem of the mystical BACK END FORMATER (whom in my head looks a lot like the wizzard of oz)!

I think that is just a waste of money. So 6.1 created more jobs for some. Wonder who got the ax to pay for that. Oh yeah, making the MT reports to ASR just took away some of my earnings and is causing me more time to do the job.

I would always put headings in reports where they belong. If a dictator dictated allergies before assessment I would place it up above before meds. Once I was told by a QA person that headings were not in stone and I did not have to move them around. We will we ever be on the same page???

Told to use the Headings from the windows, not my expansions... - alphamt

But they convert to the red bold as expansions if they are "preferred". Also told 6.1 rearranges all the headings to be properly inserted in the document no matter how they were dictated. ASR is is learning...My CCM was a bit snappy, said to go look at the Headings section, but thanks to you all I realize it is really not clear what to do, and what is "mandatory". Much thanks Fellow professionals!

but that IS the point - mt

[ In Reply To ..]
you don't move anything around, just type or edit in the order dictated and they will be re-ordered on backend formatting. This makes perfect sense BECAUSE docs never dictate things in the right order, not to mention MTs not putting things in the right order, either. Example, we have OR standards on one account and it specifies to add any other headings below the standard ones and I still get group emails from CCM reminding the "group" of this every few weeks or so. We are told why - the standard headings format differently, but some MTs don't get it. Ever.

Okay, I still don't get it. - Slap my wrists

Ever tried to pull in a full set of standard headings then cut and paste when you have ASR? Hands are doing Twister on the keyboard, and eyes are crossing and getting whiplash going back and forth. Why pull in "mandatory" standards at all if we could keep the dictated headings on a verbatim account and it is auto-formated on the back end? Either way, we'll be criticized, so I guess I still don't get it.

When W-2 Is Incorrect, You Think, On Purpose
Jan 27, 2015

I just received my W-2 from an employer who consistently paid late for the last 1-2 years. The employer has yet to finish paying me for work from the last quarter of the year and is about $600 to $700 short of what he owes me. The W-2 reflects the whole amount that I had earned instead of just what had been paid by the end of the year. Has this happened to anyone before? If so, what did you do? My feeling is -  not only that I cannot file an incorrect W-2 legally, but also that if I file w ...

About Red Headings Put In By ASR
Oct 11, 2012

While editing, have you ever come across a read heading that is not meant to be there and sometimes has nothing to do with what is dictated, and then, upon normalizing the heading with ctrl-shift-H, it shows exactly what was dictated?  This happens all the time with me, but this one really stood out.  The red heading was FAMILY AND SOCIAL.  What was dictated was "dairy and wheat."  Without typing what was dictated, I normalized the heading and, sure enough, "dairy and wheat" ...

Headings In 7.1

What bugs me is that since switching to DQS 7.1, all the headings in the ROS and PE are in lower case now, and each time I edit, I have to change them back to caps per client preference. Make sure your headings are spelled correctly before uploading as the spell checker ignores them completely, which makes me highly suspicious that they are not included in our line count whether we type them or insert them.  You know, DQS was the only good thing MQ had going for it until this update.  They had some good ideas, but implemented them poorly, not to mention should have done a beta with a handful of non-suck-up and non-family-member-to-the-CEO MTs first.  I have a fe ...

Preferred Headings

I think every single one of us should put in a ticket in Remedy complaining about this "preferred heading" list.  There is absolutely no reason for this!  It just slows up down when trying to upload a job!  Can somebody tell me what the purpose is for the spell check stopping on every single heading that is not in the "preferred list?"  There is none!  All these dictators want their own little headings in red, and we're not going to switch to one of the "suggestions ...

EditScript/Headings
Oct 17, 2013

My EditScript keeps inserting headings (PHYSICAL EXAMINATION, CHIEF COMPLAINT, ETC) when they are not dictated.  With my accounts, I am required to delete any heading that is not dictated, and most of the time the dictators don't dictate them, so I have to spend a lot of time deleting headings, sometimes 10 or more in a report. :(   My question is, is there some way to "reprogram" EditScript so it doesn't spit out a heading if not dictated?  Otherwise I do like EditScrip ...

Physical Exam Headings...
Apr 19, 2010

I really have a problem under the Physical Examination trying to figure out what goes where when the headings aren't dictated.  For instance, in this dictation, she dictates lungs, describes her exam of them, then goes on to say, "Mass in the back and the left paraspinous area is measured..."  Would this stay under the lungs or would I make a new heading...if so, if "Back" an acceptable heading?
